- Shortly after the construction of the Gotthard tunnel, Switzerland pulled off another pioneering achievement: the construction of the Thusis - St. Moritz railway line between 1899 and 1903. This opened the Upper Engadine to tourists. The Rhaetian Railway still passes over the same bridges and through the same loop tunnels. A still greater challenge was the subsequent construction of the Bernina Railway. No other railway in the world overcomes such steep gradients and winds through such steep curves without the help of a cogwheel.

I went to Switzerland for three weeks a year ago but didn't ride on this train. Regardless, Switzerland is by far the most beautiful country in the world. I always say that if you want to shoot a film in Switzerland, all you need to do is to start recording. You don't need to change anything because everything is already perfect.

My husband and I traveled to Switzerland four years ago and we did both the Bernina and the Glazier Express. We definitely rated the Bernina the best! Both are great and the entire country of Switzerland should be a national park.
I couldn't have a agree with you more, when you said that the entire Switzerland should be a national park. It's such a beautiful place. I hope that one day the Caribbean and Africa could be looked upon as a national park. Hope to travel to Switzerland one day.
I feel so lucky to have this amazing journey. Travelled a lot of countries but Switzerland is the best country with its nature and life quality. I guess it would be the best in most people life. Create an opportunity to see it as soon as possible!

We travelled on this line during our holiday in Lake Como Italy a few years ago. This is a beautiful way to travel to St Mortiz. Here you will find a milky lagoon, a great place to sit at the lake side and have lunch. We had a beautiful sunny in July on our visit. The air feels so clean and fresh, also a very expensive town to shop.

I have ridden on this stretch of rail road more than a few times. I'm American, but my Ancestors came from Thusis in 1858. I've been 9 times to Switzerland, and Thusis since 1995. A portion of my family moved from Thusis to America in 1858! I pray the Good Lord will help me go back again to the old homeland. A beautiful Country, and super friendly people when the ice is broken! I love this unbelievable fairyland !

Well, as a "Train Freak", I think I approve. This route is definitely on my bucket list. I also want to get out at various points to get photos of the train going over all those bridges.

Awsome. Green mountain, snow capped tops, red train, bridges , flowing river. One can't ask for more. Just have some stick of food keep going up and down . live it.

Switzerland is such a beautiful country. I live in the Caribbean and not to be bias would say these Europeans country sides are more beautiful than any country sides in the Caribbean. These Europeans countries take pride in their history and cleanliness of their countries. I just love to travel via the railway on RUclips through these countries. Keep up the beauty Europe. I hope one day Africa will have a rail through all its countries so we can see her beauty. The Caribbean has a far way to go. Jamaica was the first to have rail system in the British West Indies and today it's a pile of scape metal. How I long to see a civil Rail system in Jamaica and other Caribbean Islands. I am just being frank.

Have you been to the higher altitudes of the Himalayas? Whatever you see in this video is nowhere compared with what you can see in the Himalayas.. But you have to travel to North India and Himalayas. The only difference is, in Switzerland you have the rail to take you up high there , in our Himalayas you have to trek and climb, but what you see after climbing ... is something which the Alps can never come in comparison..

I rode this pass on my bicycle. It was a long climb. The railway paralleled the road for a while. After a few miles I wished I was on the train.

This type of view is common here in Nepal , only thing which amaze and fascinate me is those dams ,tunnels, train and engineering.
RECOMMENDATION: If you are ever in Panama travel the Panama Canal Railway. It travels though lush tropical rain forests. The trip is short but its worth it. It only costs $25 one way.

Switzerland got to be my one holiday destination one day
This was a wonderful experience a few years ago but St Moritz in the summer was under whelming.
But, still feel lucky to be able to enjoy the beauty of the Alps
It is a beautiful journey. Dense forests, high mountains, the meadows, lakes, clear streams, ancient bridges and buildings look so pristine. The passage of the train through the city streets is so charming. The journey itself is a destination.👌🏻
