I actually really like the bumblebee, the transformation is clever, the wheels are actually pinned so it rolls amazing, and it is small but that fits with the scaling in the show, the plastic is ok and I love the accessories
I personally think Bee was severely hurt by coming out at the same time as Chase, another figure that pulls off almost the exact same transformation far better
Fun fact: the Legacy version actually has little seats molded in behind the windshield/chestplate and the back of the chestplate has a little steering wheel molded in. Love the little unnecessary details!
I agree, I was pleasantly surprised to see those. Hasbro and Takara used to do that kind of thing a lot with car and truck Transformers but they largely stopped doing it for mainline toys after the Unicron Trilogy ended.
I actually like the original toys accessory, its not accurate but i think it has a charm to it. And yes you can store it on the back and it gives him sort of a small wing-pack look which i think is pretty cool.
i have lived 23 years of my life... rewatched transformers animated 3 times in the total of my life not counting all the random reruns when it aired on tv and i just wanted my fill of transformers in a day... and never in that time breathing air on this planet, have i heard the transformers animated japanese intro and im so glad i stumbled upon this video to learn of this information. godspeed JCC
Transformers Animated was awesome! I have most of the original releases of the Animated figures and even THOSE were amazing! Great figures, the originals!
The Toyhax for this guy and bumblebee is pretty neat. It has options to effectivly customize him to look like several different variants, including the Star Convoy homage deco, which is what I went for. What is also really great is that their decals for the axe thicken up the handle a bit, allowing him to hold it better. The Bumblebee one is also odd, but debatably really cool as it takes advantage of the shape of Bee's face to create decal stickers for different expressions. Normally, this would look a bit off on a figure, but as Animated figures had a sort of "liquid screen" thing going on with the faces, it actually looks really fitting.
I will gladly have a normal prime and a jet power prime! Great video, I personally feel like this new voyager looks incredible and kind of what I always wanted from the OG voyager
The wheels are accurate, kinda. He doesn’t have any front wheels in the show but for obvious stability reasons he needed wheels there so they’re just hidden.
I need to figure some sort if intermission notification whenever I put up an annotation that gives more information cuz it seems a lotta people miss it in the vids and post the same info in the comments lol Thanks for watching tho, I appreciate the input!
If it helps you at all in regards to Bumblebee, painting his windows all-black all the way around and adding a white-backed Autobot logo really helped me fall in love with the figure, it makes him look much more solid and show-accurate, and waaay more fitting when placed with Optimus and Prowl! In terms of scale, TFA Universe Bumblebee is actually taller than the Earthrise onwards Cliff/Bee mould by a little bit, and he scales accurately with Prime and Prowl when compared directly to the show.
I love and own both versions of Animated Voyager Optimuses. I feel like the old one is more show accurate, but the new one has a much, much better axe and is slightly more fun to transform. But they have their own pros.
I love this figure! I can’t wait for the inevitable repaint/retool of this guy as Motormaster or his Jetwing Prime version with Ultra Magnus’ hammer. I highly recommend Bumblebee, he’s my favorite Animated Bee figure. I’m still trying to find Leader Class Dreadwing. That figure is impossible to find for alsome reason when his twin was easy to find.
I really like this updated version of animated Optimus. I used to have the original 2007 which I got rid of and hate myself for that. I think I’ll pick up the legacy version to rekindle old memories.
This is one of the few times that the figure being intended for something else has benefited the figure. The budget for the Jetwing version really allows this one to be excellent!
Not sure if someone else has mentioned it yet but there was a factory prototype version of this mold that had a faceplate, so given that and all the extra little ports in some spots I’d think it’s safe to say we’re getting a jetwing version later on
I might pitch this question to the designers but I'm actually curious whether, at a leader pricepoint, they would be more likely to do a normal jetwing prime or spring for a full powermaster prime. After all, with the way the new prime transforms they don't need to include an entire extra set of giant robot arms.
@@narwhalking2788 I feel like they might be able to include more considering it's an addition to an existing mold, not a new one. Like coronation starscream: new hands and null rays (scrap the axe and you have enough budget to make a hammer), shoulder pads (the gauntlets are similar size), the cape (the wings are a similar size), and the throne (similar size to the big stompers). It would also allow them to give the truck a proper alt mode instead of just having the wings hanging off the bed.
Funny, I was watching another video and at the same time, organizing my shelf to set up my "The Office" Lego set and had to move a few Transformers, took a break and started eating, then this vid of Animated Prime came on and I had my Animated Prime on my desk while eating and was like hey! 😂 What a coincidence! He actually is a very good figure and I've never been huge in to Animated but I do enjoy their designs.
20:52 So in terms of show accuracy for vehicle mode, the Legacy mold is actually the true homage to the animated show. Optimus never had front cab wheels in animated, rather just the 4 wheels on the truck bed. The original toys couldnt replicate that because well.... physics. IRL the cab would be too heavy to be supported by just 4 back wheels, so they split them up and put two in the front and two in the back. It had to be this way in order to roll as a truck, but at the same time it gave up show accuracy. That's why the legacy mold has those hidden wheels up at the front, that way they could pay respects to the actual animated fire truck while still allowing it to be able to physically roll like a truck should.
I'm also in the club of not really wanting the Legacy animated Bee, but I've found that this Optimus actually pairs really well with the Earthspark deluxe Bee. Together they look as if Bee and big Op have matured and grown up a little bit since the animated timeline.
Bumblebee’s great, but he’s definitely not rivaling Tarn’s articulation with his restrictive shoulders, lack of fingers or an up and down at the ankles. Tarn is something special.
Only thing I cant get past is the feet...... ALL they had to do was make it the front of the car 😭😭😭 Like i appreciate the effort of sculpting in the headlights and such on his toes but its just not the same. Also, I don't like how the toy barley tabs in at all in vehicle mode and is just held together by friction.
@@maxrodriguez889 mine tabs in fine in car mode and I honestly like the feet because they’re actually more acurate as he had those sort of boots in show
I wonder if they'll retool any of the Legacy animated bots into their Cybertronian modes. This new figure is a slam dunk and deserves to be repainted and remolded hundreds of times
like you said, the new one is a really nice toy but it isn't replacing the old one and I don't think it's trying to. Like all the legacy animated stuff it's a reinterpretation of the animated designs rather than faithful representations. When it comes to the Unicron trilogy stuff, I think the reason why they keep those faithful is because the Unicron trilogy aesthetic is similar enough to the Chug aesthetic that there is no need to revamp them like with Animated and Prime.
Currently playing with this guy right now, he is absolutely stellar. When the inevitable leader class version (PLEASE BE A POWERMASTER VERSION) comes out, i intend to get that as well! Until then, I highly recommend giving him earthrise prime's ion rifle, the chonk of it perfectly matches animated prime!
I don't think they'll do a power master version. That would be in the concept art line and a leader budget wouldn't work. I think the jetwing one barely makes it.
Actually the show model has the 2 wheels on the truck bed. It’s just a due to physics, they had to move one of the wheels up to the cab in the original toy but for this one, they’re just adding two little wheels to the cab.
Was never a huge fan of the original animated designs, and while the toys are great they’re all so janky in little ways that make them weird to play with. The new legacy versions make the designs more appealing to me and the new toys are so, so good.
Saw Legacy Animated Optimus Prime today and sadly passed on him. Somebody else will be lucky enough to get it. I have no need for him, but he looks really nice.
I am confident Hasbro will make a Leader version of this guy one day, but I'm happy that kit exists for those who aren't patient enough to see what Hasbro will do! lol
You might not have to wait; there's a third option. DNA Design will soon put out a third party add-on kit for this Legacy Prime release that will also fully convert him into Jetwing Optimus Prime. I never got the original and now that I have the Legacy one I'm glad I didn't. He actually looks great next to my deluxe Animated Cybertronian Optimus. I was a little irritated that he was missing some paint apps, but since I build and paint Gundam models I was able to add them in myself. (If anyone else is wanting to paint the figure to make it more cartoon accurate, he needs the following: black on the round details on the sides of his head, yellow stripes on the head itself, yellow on the rectangular "light" sections on his truck bumpers, gray or black on the dashboard and seat details inside the truck cab, silver on the "thruster" on the axe, black lining for the twelve little indents on the axe that aren't colored, silver on the rims of all six truck windows as well as the windshield wipers & the reflective sides of his side view mirrors, yellow on the lights above the windshield, silver on his four exposed hubcaps, yellow on the tail lights, black around the edges of his feet and yellow on the rectangular raised details on the backs of his hands & the tops of his feet. Pretty much a whole bunch of little things.)
I HIGHLY recommend Legacy Bumblebee, maybe not at full price but it's still a fantastic figure. The materials are actually really nice and the articulation is top tier
The truck bed feet thingies are actually accurate to the design, you can search up the Animated Prime truck mode, and you will see them there, just that bump at the back.
I did do painted details on my original Animated toys (like giving Prime here his blue lips and the yellow on the back of his fists, behind the black plate), and have the stickers for Prime, Bee and Chase hopefully coming this coming week.
I don't really have much attachment to Animated - never liked the designs very much and I probably watched an episode here and there back in the day but I've never went though the whole series. probably will at some point, but I still had to preorder this guy as he looks really good and I am always down to grab different versions of Optimus from over the years.
I had the same story I ordered my animated optimus prime on Amazon when it got back in stock and I went to target yesterday and found him and had to cancel my order.
Technically with the front wheels hidden it’s more accurate to the original design because in animated the fire truck didn’t have the front wheels just the back ones
I I like having the legacy Prowl not because it's a good rendition of animated Prowl, but it's a good rendition of the character design of Prowl from animated. What I mean by that is, I've never been a big fan of the original Prowl from G1, out of all of the original G1 characters he is easily one of the most boring and my least favorite, to the point where he is the only character from 84 I do not own yet in some form (other than Gears and Buzzsaw for obvious reasons), but I really love the character design of Prowl from animated, and the evolution figure is basically that core character design but now he's a normal transformer and not strictly from animated, so I can have that as my standard Prowl in my collection. Honestly, that's probably why the prime and animated characters take as much liberty with the core styles as they do, because those character designs were so beloved, so if you just want those as your standard versions of the characters, say you don't like G1 arcee so you can have the legacy one where she looks like a standard transformer and not strictly from prime, then you can do that. That's probably why the UT stuff is so faithful, they didn't have drastically different styles, so adapting them to look like modern transformers was no problem....... why they didn't do that with BM Cheetor is beyond me.
To be fair, Legacy Animated Bumblebee's scale is accurate to the show. Besides the G1-unification, he still a minibot similar to his G1 counterpart. The original toy looks more accurate, sure, but it's a bit too big (yes, scale accuracy wasn't a thing back then) compared to the other figures in the Animated toyline. Also, Legacy Animated Optimus wasn't the first figure to have hidden bumper wheels. The original Supreme Class Animated OP toy had those as well, even if it had electronics to accomodate for the automation gimmick for the transformation, it was the second one to closely replicate the cartoon model's truck mode wheels slightly further away from the bumper and front of the cab.
Watch them make the mouthplate Animated prime just for an animated Toxitron and never for Prime. Hopefully they’ll make a leader class with the jet pack and hammer.
I can’t wait to pick the new prime up, he’s still sold out on Amazon and nowhere in Australia has it in stock yet. I’m definitely going to pick him up as well as the jet pack optimus if they make it (please Hasbro) The new animated Bumblebee is absolutely tiny but after I opened it, I pretty much fell in love with it. It has its problems like the black stripe being on the wrong side of the legs. They definitely could’ve engineered the toy so the stripe was on the right side and that the front of the car became the feet with the wheels also at his feet. But anyway he just feels like bumblebee, definitely not worth the full price imo.
Me pre ordering prime: 😫😫 Watching other reviews seeing them talking about parts having of it looking as if it can add a possible jet wing Me now knowing I have to wast more money bc I want another good prime 😂😭
Well, I still would like Hasbro to make Megatron from Transformers animated to go with Optimus prime. And make him leader class, because in the show he’s bigger than Optimus prime.
Oh noooo! A kids toy came with a great non canon weapon that functions well in both modes! Damn this toy based on a series that was designed just to sell toys to kids. How dare they give us more versatile fun?!
transformers animated and prime are my favorite then comes g1 and unicron trilogy there are a few i still need to watch titans return and few others but i do not plan to watch earthspark and cyberverse
I bought all the Animated toys back when they were new and I thought they were amazing! They were surprisingly simple to transform and captured Derrick Wyatt’s artwork to an incredible degree. One of my favorite toylines they ever did. The new Prime is definitely missing something I can’t quite put my finger on… but I still think he’s fantastic and I’m definitely picking up the Jetwing version when it comes out. He’ll fit right in with my Animated collection since we never really got one!
The thing that kills the Legacy one for me (besides my major distaste for the forced extra greebles and details) is its utter lack of an abdomen: it just gets swallowed up inside the chest. It just ruins his silhouette and instead of making him look heroic, it just makes him look weird and bloated instead. Also, "stop complaining about the panel lines and details, they'll never perfectly replicate Animated's art"... they literally did with the original figures???
I have no idea why you would get the new one besides being easier to find. The new one is stuck in an awkward medium between animated and detailed. It doesn't fully commit to one style or the other and it makes the figure look terrible.
I like it a lot because the proportions are much better than the original voyager, and also it isn't held down by gimmicks which is my main complaint with the original animated figures, especially ratchet.
@@Cornchips-om5rfThat's factually incorrect, the Legacy one literally doesn't even have an abdomen - it just gets swallowed up inside the chest, so instead of a heroic bulky chest, it just looks like he has a bloated upper body that immediately transitions into his hips. The shaping of the shoulders is also not as sharp with the angles, with really bizarrely-rounded off corners. And don't get me started on the axe handle's foreskin. It has its improvements sure, I think the facesculpt is nice and the ankle poseability is a plus, but it's lacking so much paint, and the ankles+wrists are literally the only things it has over the original in terms of posability - it aged phenomenally. And if you have the original, you could get the battle-damaged Deluxe, since it came with a show-accurate axe scaled to the Voyager figure for some reason - one that I think looks way nicer that the Legacy axe, even. Legacy TFA Optimus has his positives and is certainly the best of the TFA characters in Legacy so far, but in comparison to the originals, he really is still just a sidegrade [at the absolute best]. Same goes for TFP Skyquake and Thundertron; like they're good figures, but they don't replace the originals by virtue of being so different, not at all no.
@@fanb1536 I suppose I should have rephrased that. I LIKE the proportions better than the original. The original has a torso that looks too big with arms that are both too short and too far back. I like the more beefcake inspired look of the new one. As for the articulation, it's not just ankles and wrists. It's maximum elbows, head tilt and extended overall range, a waist swivel that actually works, thigh pivots, maximum knees, ankle tilts, AND forward and backwards on the feet. The original does not hold up as well as even the deluxe in terms of articulation and proportions. I will concede on the paint, I am disappointed that he doesn't have all of his yellow and black accents.
I don't always say the new one is best, like I think the original Beast Wars Scorponok is a better toy than Kingdom. In this case I just think the original Animated voyager Prime was one of the weaker figures in an otherwise fantastic line.
I actually really like the bumblebee, the transformation is clever, the wheels are actually pinned so it rolls amazing, and it is small but that fits with the scaling in the show, the plastic is ok and I love the accessories

Transformers never make accessory packs like that unless it's third party. Besides, a new figure could give us a new headsculpt.

That's probably why the UT stuff is so faithful, they didn't have drastically different styles, so adapting them to look like modern transformers was no problem....... why they didn't do that with BM Cheetor is beyond me.
Bumblebee is definitely well worth it. A bit overpriced, sure, but the scaling is absolutely on point👌
A Wasp repaint did actually appear on some leaked listings so you’re in luck
The only thing that really bugs me on the Legacy release, is that the leg transformation to vehicle mode looks like garbage.
I’m definitely going to pick him up as well as the jet pack optimus if they make it (please Hasbro)
The new animated Bumblebee is absolutely tiny but after I opened it, I pretty much fell in love with it. It has its problems like the black stripe being on the wrong side of the legs. They definitely could’ve engineered the toy so the stripe was on the right side and that the front of the car became the feet with the wheels also at his feet. But anyway he just feels like bumblebee, definitely not worth the full price imo.
Only reason I would hold off from animated legacy optimus is if they make the powermaster optimus that also converts to a fire truck trailor
I like both figures but I get more enjoyment out of the original Animated one.
Goddamn that Japanese intro is fucking fantastic.
I recommend animated legacy bumblebee he is one of my favorite legacy toys
I like the old one becuase it looks more accurate
We need new animated reviews j4 I can’t find animated reviews that aren’t 2 pixels total so please do more animated reviews omggggg
To be honest I do prefer the original for the proportions and show accuracy imo
Me pre ordering prime: 😫😫
Watching other reviews seeing them talking about parts having of it looking as if it can add a possible jet wing
Me now knowing I have to wast more money bc I want another good prime 😂😭
Well, I still would like Hasbro to make Megatron from Transformers animated to go with Optimus prime. And make him leader class, because in the show he’s bigger than Optimus prime.
We got leaked factory images of a Animated Optimus with a face plate
If I get a voyager animated prime I’m gonna give him the deluxe primes axe
Get the Legacy Bumblebee. It's better than the original Voyager and it's scale accurate
Hey J4 some of the episodes are good. The rest the other episodes not that much for me
TFA is IMO the beat piece of transformers fiction, and at the very least it's top 3
Do u have any transformers toys Jc?
nah I dont think so
@@TK-2224 dang I was really wanted to watch a video on transformers toys😞
I love the legacy optimus prime because it's so good.
Oh noooo! A kids toy came with a great non canon weapon that functions well in both modes!
Damn this toy based on a series that was designed just to sell toys to kids. How dare they give us more versatile fun?!
Zip it up lil bro
Seriously though, the axe is fucking bad on the OG. Remove the rose-tinted glasses and pull the OG's schwanger out of your mouth
I really love transformers animated, but I’m more of a transformers prime guy so,
The figure looks great but I can’t help but notice that they keep g1-ifying the animated designs
transformers animated and prime are my favorite then comes g1 and unicron trilogy there are a few i still need to watch titans return and few others but i do not plan to watch earthspark and cyberverse
God dang it just show us if we can put the new axe on the old figure
That’s all we care about!
Why does nobody try this?!??
2:03 Hey! 😠
Why... did every character... talk... like this? I guess they thought it made the show... more serious.. lol
I personally liked the Netflix trilogy, but I will admit they talked really unnaturally lol
@@Jcc2224 Why Netflix Sometimes, They Fail!?!
Happy Saint. Patrick's Day!
Get animated bumblebee
Do you love Transformers Animated? I couldn’t tell from the video…. 😂😂
Very fartworthy face mask gimmick on the original version 😂😃😛👍🍀
Ah yes, animated prime, as I like to call him : optimus NOT prime, the weakest prime amongst the other primes (yes even rescue bots)
He is still a great character
I have no idea why you would get the new one besides being easier to find. The new one is stuck in an awkward medium between animated and detailed. It doesn't fully commit to one style or the other and it makes the figure look terrible.
I like it a lot because the proportions are much better than the original voyager, and also it isn't held down by gimmicks which is my main complaint with the original animated figures, especially ratchet.
The articulation is much better on the legacy one, and it has a nicer axe.
That’s your opinion, to others, it’s a great update.
You don't like ogs? Bruh you ain't og anymore, you just always choose the new and the old one always doesn't get a chance to be collected
I don't always say the new one is best, like I think the original Beast Wars Scorponok is a better toy than Kingdom. In this case I just think the original Animated voyager Prime was one of the weaker figures in an otherwise fantastic line.
God dang it just show us if we can put the new axe on the old figure
That’s all we care about!
Why does nobody try this?!??
