Since the founding of the republic, India has been the largest democracy in the world. In many respects it was considered a model democracy owing to its ideals, such as a non-partisan Election Commission and free dialogue and debate. Its abiding features have been non-discriminatory management of diversity, concern for an equitable and equal society, and a profound reverence towards the country’s founding document, the Constitution.
Over the years, the tussle between historical reality and theoretical idealism ensured that at times the social contract was disrupted, with conflicts obstructing a complete achievement of democracy.
In India’s Experiment with Democracy, former chief election commissioner S.Y. Quraishi examines key questions that face India today: What foundational principles must be definitive to our ideas of nationhood, citizenship and democracy? How may we enliven our national discourse with a renewed spirit of inquiry and imaginative erudition, and mid-course correction? Ultimately, the underlying thrust of this book is to posit reasoned argumentation, objective enquiry, secularism, civil liberty and compassion as indispensable features of a democracy.

I think the secrecy of donors (corporate) is important because the sentiment of the public of India will harm corporate entities so according to me the best decision will be for all corporates to give money to the election commission in form of electoral bond and election commission should divide money in all parties according to their size

In election time, many political leader gives communal speeches which are dangerous to our social. It is one more reason why one nation one election is more necessary
Very disappointed to listen to the poor logic against One country one election. In the current election arrangement, the Members of Parliament and Assemblies are in an election mode all year round. They hardly spend time to do the work they are elected to do. And Mr Quraishi did not talk about it.

SY Quarishi is a congressi. after retirement his views on MULTIPLE public platforms voicing his PoV always and every time opposing whatever the present BJP Govt has proposed, done IS NOT SURPRISING.
As a nation and democracy grows, evolves we need to move on and one nation one voting needs to be looked into.
the moment anybody criticizes BJP government people like you do a thorough background check of the fellow criticizing government and then based on his or her views put a label that he is congressi, he is leftist, he is marxist etc. look at the merits of arguments understand them carefully and then make up ur mind.
whatever narrative or agenda is presented to u by bjp, people like u whole heartedly with lock stock and barrel support their agenda without looking at any pros and cons of any issue.
