I met Eddie at the Rad Hell track in Texas a few years ago. Great guy! When they tell you “don’t meet your heroes”, they couldn’t be more wrong. Eddie was down to earth and will take the time to talk to you and take pictures. Super cool guy. Felt like I was kid back in 1986 meeting my heroes.
Love reflecting on the 80’s. I remember jumping in my bike and riding all day with my friends. My parents never worried but they never had a clue where I was. Those were the good days. Finding a ditch to jump or a ramp to ride. Great memories!
I'm from UK. Small town in the south. Eddie is such an absolute legend that we named those "U" shaped rear frame standers that he used to use "Eddies Handles". Revolutionary at the time but ultimately not as good as a simple pair of pegs! Still a living legend, and a still to this day an amazingly friendly, chatty and totally decent dude.
Awesome video. Agree we need more of these! I'm a child of the 80s from Maui. Even out there Eddie was my idol. Love your channel. Keep up the good work.
Excellent interview! Eddie seems super down to earth. I’m also glad that you didn’t re-hash the past with him , it’s great to find out what all these people are doing now. I also agree with cthebikeman you should start a podcast.
Awesome interview. I met Mr. Fiola last year and he signed my 84’ GT. He’s an amazing nice guy. He even gave me some tips on my brakes. RAD dude all around 🤙
When I grew up and took all the magazine pages off my bedroom wall, they all went into a folder. Somehow I still have them all. Maybe I should do a wall in my man cave! I miss the late 80s and early 90s. Thanks for the memories!
King of the Skateparks! RIP "The Pipeline" what a cool cat. I haven't met Eddie, but Josh White and Dave Voelker came to my town on tour in 88. Great interview! Subscribed.
I have always thought the newer bikes had way better geometry, and road so much nicer than everything in the past, but hearing this from a legend that used to ride the old school bikes, solidifies my outlook. Another banger 🤙🏻
Great vid, keep em coming. I grew up in Chicago in the 80s, all we really had back then were the magazines to keep us updated. I remember going to the 7-11 almost every day to check if there was a new issue. We read every word, every ad, and no question Eddie was THE GUY, period. When our local bike shops didnt have the parts we wanted there was a good chance you could get one from advert in the mags. In fact, I bought my first gen Dyno Compe II via mail-order P.O.D. Good times, great memories, unadulterated fun. 15:29 - "then I got a car, girlfriend, and it all went to hell ..." funny but so true!
ITS SAD THAT EDDIE IS NOT A MULTI MILLIONAIRE HE WAS BMX PERIOD. MUCH LOVE TO YOU EDDIE YOU STARTED A DREAM FOR US AN A FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH IN BMX IT JUST GETS IN YOUR BLOOD THANK YOU EDDIE AN THANK YOU RAD BMX FOR THE VIDEOS ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Somehow i missed this video. Thanx!! Eddie is an Icon and Legend and my fav rider next to Martin and Josh White. . GT FOR LIFE!! P.S. try and get Martin to do a interview, theres is not alot of interviews around .
I got to meet Eddie , Martin & Bob Haro all the same day which blew me away at the haro headquarters in Vista California. Definitely Awesome guys no doubt. Stay Rad gents 😎
Wow, the photo of Eddie height gauging Mike Dominguez at 15:01 is (the big bowl) at Livingston skatepark in Scotland, I only know this cos I was there that day, infact I have a photo from the same shoot and I'm standing in the background, of all the photos there are you used that one... unbelievable! I was star struck that day.😂
So true, we would get on our bikes and just go... when we were thirsty we drank from a water bubbler or garden hose (yes in the summer the first mouth full was hot water) and when mom rang the bell we best be home fast for dinner and eat fast so we could go out again and then stay out till the street lights came on...
Man it kills me to watch your videos your bikes are beautiful it takes me back to early 90s and I don’t have the money just to buy one and I want one more than anything she in that black Dyno yesterday And that white and red red line my God man you do a hell of a job love the channel buddy
Great interview! Maybe some of the old pros should band together to start a larger scale bicycle company: Eddie, RL Osborn, Wilkerson Dominguez, Woody Itson, Martin Aparijo, etc. Pool your capital and make a park bike and a street bike. 👍
Hello Rad bmx builds, it would be good to see Eddie Fiola as a world ambassador for bmx and commissioned by countries to get folks back involved with a style of rideing that was more accessible to many whatever your skill level you still felt part of the scene the movement. You didn't have to do a triple somersault or clear thirty steps narrowly avoiding A,E to be cool. I've built bikes for forty plus years seen fashion an fads come an go an come around again. I like old school bmx or mid school two brakes seat height that's cruisable an of a level angle, glad to have been drawn back to bmx in fairly recent years just at a time when big names where building bikes, in example the EF former pro, only for mainstream companies do copy cat retros, it's all good I guess. I agree with Eddie acknowledging those who where the movement the founding fathers as it where should be Key in an industry where good ethics should be the mantle of any retro or return to a pre movement. Maybe Eddie an yourself an the Huntingdon beach crew could amass a project to put forward a return to the values of that era as its timeless, an it's up to us fans to talk up the merits. More than ever society is at a pivotal point an strong talented leaders or former professionals will be needed to guide communities an hold em together with a sound fabric. A question to you an Eddie when you next see him a conundrum if you will and perhaps a burgeoning market? I've known a few catch the bug of bmx again they buy a bike build it up at great cost old school stuff is very collected as you know then they don't use it for fear of damage an all that, so my return is to mid school, not so pricey less likely to cry if I crash it! i then I thought what about a contemporary bike, no brakes or perhaps one, pivotal seat thingy sloped top tube, can it be retro fitted an how bad would it look, in short can a contemporary bmx be converted old school, after sort of three attempts, Yes it can providing you get a larger frame like a we the people arcade, so a taller seat post doesn't look to gangly I'm running salt front an rear brake levers useing a bulldog front calliper through the reflector bolt hole which reaches ok as mid school forks where quite thick, I've done three such builds the best looking isn't the best rideing that goes to a Radio astrom rides great, but frame is very compact as in low seat tube. So doesn't look as great, So is there a market for the Eddie Fiola old school retro fit kit, with a guide to which contemporary bikes the kit would suit an work best with, all made in the USA you can never underestimate parts for bikes often earns more than a whole signature frame, an bike! If this is of any interest I can put forward the frames I've tried this on, I didn't realise that current frames still made nearly as large as old school till this project, next build a woods bmx for trials rideing down forest streams so brake lugged front forks an ubrakes sorta mid school. Great interview Eddies an inspiration in the truest sense.
@@RadBMXBuilds it's really strong.. I need that.. the geometry is a trip? Mine is sticky set up for pools.. it's formerpro . Super cross.. rad frame ✌️🎃
....I guess this is the reason why GT did not come out with a official Eddie Fiola GT PERFORMER model..like Voelker and Josh white..becuase Eddie and GT not on good terms etc.
I wish I had one my old GT I had and meet Eddie and have him autograph it let's just say I'd dust that thing each day and not let people even breath on it ur getting too close to it now get away 😊
Frames used to identify the bike not the stickers just look at the old hutch trickstars,gt performers, dyno compes, any haros and so many more awesome frames now they all look the same and ugly dull colors

One of the best interviews with an Icon.
Thank you
I met him in 1984 when he rode for GT. They did a demo and I was hooked. I had my Hutch pro raider at the time. So cool to see him still ripping!

The car and the girlfriend killed my Bmx career too. Lol

Eddie really is one of the gods of the world like beyond Elvis even and facts not opinion lol he really is tho
I used to live near by him and his family in Bellflower California used to race a lot of bmx and hung out with Eddie’s sister a lot.

If it ain't Eddy King then it'd just some squid...
Performer is a common word so GT can not protect it. Proformer is a made up word so it can be protected. GT has no standing in that case.
Why Not Sit Outside ??? Weird in a grimy kitchen.. Just, Hey you're in California so why not ???? Cool Overall. thanks..
