That is what actually happened. The kitten expressed his discomfort with having his space encroached on, and the mainecoon basically responded with "that's rude."
I think they're probably getting along better now. Having cats is like having your own private Kabuki Theatre... lots of sounds & posturing that we mostly don't quite understand. 😉

Right after we got her in the house my 14 year old 18 pound male came in through the cat door and she hissed and puffed up, but stood her ground. He just looked at her like what's your problem and headed for the food bowl. The sweetest cat I ever knew. They became great friends.

My cats don’t like each other. They live together. They tolerate each other, but I’m convinced they would gladly let a predator snack on the other house cats rather than themselves. They wouldn’t save each other or be nice to each other if their lives or home depended on it 😂 they don’t try to kill each other but they do fight sometimes.
I love how it meows at the kitten like, "Oh hey, hi I didn't see you there. How you doing? Oh you gonna hisss at me, you dumb little ball of fluff. I hissss back at you!"
