      I got the 140 and wish I had gotten the 110... The extra length feels unnecessary. I'll have to get the 110 to complete the collection.

    • @danroxas9846

      Matt Kandel I got the 110. I have some knives that I get to use every now and then but somehow I always end up with the terava. It is just an awesome knife. My son is starting to like it, so I might just order the 140. We’ll see... or I might try the real steel gardarik...

      @@danroxas9846- Honestly it's so similar to the 110 that I don't think it's worth it. Would be more fun to experience different knives from some different companies. Real Steel, Steel Will, Kizlyar Supreme. My Kizlyar Supreme Urban in niolox is one of my favorite edc knives.

    One thing to mention on the Garberg's thickness (0.13" or 3.2 mm) is that due to the low scandi grind 2/3 of the blade stock remain untouched and intact, thus making it just as tough as some thicker knives with flat grinds or high saber grinds.

    • @jamesaritchie1
      @jamesaritchie1 5 лет назад

      That doesn't even make sense. Even if it did, stainless is a horrible choice for any knife you're taking into the wilderness, and Mora carbon steel is third rate, at best. Even Mora stainless isn't very good steel, but Mora carbon is pretty bad. There is no other carbon steel that chips as easily, or that is as easy to chip along the edge apex. I've even seen sizable chunks blown out of a Mora spine with a ferro rod.

  • @csh6220
    @csh6220 6 лет назад +4

    I like the fact that different grinds (scandi, saber, ffg) were represented. I was surprised that the Gerber is about $100 with S30V steel, and it has no serrations! The sheath looked nice as well.

    • @jamesaritchie1
      @jamesaritchie1 5 лет назад +1

      I'm surprised anyone would pay more than fifty bucks for any version of any Gerber. S30V, my left hind leg. That knife is junk, and the steel is worthless.

  • @cdhrtsc
    @cdhrtsc 6 лет назад +18

    You should try out a Terava Jakaaripuukko and give it a review. I have one and its a great carbon steel knife. They have a great leather sheath for it too all for about $60, or just the knife for about $30. Great for those on a budget. I think it beats the Garberg.

    I got the Steel Will Argonaut because of your original video on it, and I've never had a moment's regret. When I'm on the trail, even if I'm belt carrying another knife, either the Argonaut or the Strongarm is in/on my pack as backup. They both just do anything that's needed, and are ideal for maintenance in my high-humidity, coastal environment.

    For me , CS Master Hunter's . I own both , the 3V and SanMai. The SanMai version is 3/16" all the way to the tip and it has a full flat convex grind with basically a secondary bevel , it's kind of Bravo 1 esk, imo, you should really try one they are $75.00 on Amazon right now and the SW 3v model is $99.00 , great deals . Also the SanMai is easier to sharpen than the VG1steel alone , they must do a different heat treat , because it also has incredible torxtional capabilities , you can pry the crap out of this knife with no problems, watch the CS videos , it's all true .

Oh... and Gerber instantly eliminated 12-13% of the population with their right hand only sheath. Not too smart... lefties do a lot of outdoors stuff. I do.

    The Garberg is interesting. I own the SS version & its marketed as a survival knife. Like GT said it excels as a bushcraft knife. For this reason I
    personally can’t say it’s worth the 100 dollar price point, I wouldn’t of put it on this list, it’s to expensive for what you get. You can buy a different Mora that does the same for a 1/3rd of the price. IMO

    • @youtubevoice1050
      @youtubevoice1050 6 лет назад

      Now you can get it for nearly half that price, though, as other commenters mentioned. I'm not sure it's marketed as a survival knife, just as Mora's toughest knife. It's definitely a bushcraft knife, but with the ruggedness suited for hard use.

    Hey there,
    I am missing some great European made knives in your reviews.
    Would like to see a review on the JEO-TEC Nº21 to throw a Spanish knife in the round. Have one my self. Great steel, nice grind, good sheeth with some great addons. Very good price for what you get. Boy does this grind eat it self into wood!
    Check it out!
    Cheers.

    I don't understand why you want a huge chopper knife in a survival situation? Essentially you get a jack of all trades and master of none situation. You get a large heavy knife that is very poor for fine details/food prep and doesn't chop as good as a hatchet or axe. In a survival situation you would be exuding more energy/calories trying to chop wood with the thing than a regular or even small axe/hatchet. I guess if you can only take one tool then maybe but you wouldn't survive very long with the one tool. IMO bring a smaller, lighter, yet strong blade and a hatchet. Survival suddenly got a million times easier.

    Cool idea but I would rather just a folding buck knife. Still watching out of respect though.
