@J.C. Denton sadly I play on console. If I'll ever get a pc with the right setup I'll mod the crab out of this game. Love the Resurrection mod, especially how it feels so lore friendly and not too much of an overkill :')
Activision didn't though it would be profitable to green light a DLC but Miyazaki was expecting to develop one, in the end money talks. Microsoft now owns Activision so they could pay for it, kinda late but it can go well with some Sekiro remaster+new content. Let's hope Microsoft cares about it.
Yeah, I mean we pretty much knew this already, but this video has me convinced 100% : the moveset for Malenia was definitely intended for a Sekiro boss, while it's still disappointing that this isn't possible in the base game, I'm glad this mod exists, because it will make fighting Malenia actually fun now, instead of it being a chore on every playthrough I do, no matter which non-OP, non-broken build I try.
Yeah, although this is way too OP from how it seems, since you do not have posture and Malenia cannot block/deflect herself. You are literally unkillable with a lot of stamina points (I guess that if you just block you will take damage, but still it feels much easier than normally mainly because of practically infinite stamina). I think Elden Ring in general is too "liberal" with stamina, it should have more stamina consumption for most actions (or rather % based but lower with more stamina), this would make the general stamina more logical(or rather less OP), since now with high stamina every action takes literally no stamina and what is taken is easily replenished pretty much instantly. Still, this is an amazing mod. Sekiro has the best combat in Souls, kinda wish they implemented it more in their next games.
Malenia is absolutely a repurposed Tomoe. Waterfowl Dance looks a *lot* like Spiral Cloud Passage, which is supposed to be Tomoe's signature technique. Her floaty one-handed fighting style is similar to the Okami women at Fountainhead Palace where Tomoe came from. She deflects out of your combos. Her hyperarmor kicks match the aesthetic of unarmed attacks throughout Sekiro, with the pronounced white smear like all the Senpou combat arts. The attack where she leaps to your right has a second of hang time like it should have a perilous attack alert. The lifesteal mechanic is probably FromSoft's way of evoking the back-and-forth feel of Sekiro's posture system.
It’s a shame we can’t fully port over Sekiro’s deflection system. This just doesn’t feel as snappy :/ but I will say that I would adore the opportunity to play with mod, especially since I went so hard in Sekiro. One of my all time favorite games. Great video as always, Almighty Ongbal. Edit: the block counter being available on parries is something I’d never considered before. Perhaps Sekiro’s sequel (if it comes to be announced) could have a similar mechanic. I would not be against this, if it was implemented similarly to how it is in this mod.
The block counter is already in Sekiro. There is a deflect talent you can get for Skill Points that slightly increases the damage dealt by your hit after a deflect. It also has a slightly different animation. A more dramatic animation, or the option for a riskier and stronger counter attack would be really cool for a Sekiro Sequel.
@@BigWangLemon also if you’ve played the sekiro Resurrection mod it introduces a counterattack mechanic where wolf does a special swing after deflecting specific attacks (also can chain into ichimonji for a special type of counterattack). I think that would be a perfect representation of what you’re talking about.
@@splinterskulll very interesting! I’m on PS4 so I have not had the pleasure of experiencing what you describe, though I will be poking my nose through Almighty Ongbal’s channel to witness this. Thank you for pointing this out!
I really wish they added deflects into the game, it would have added so much more depth to the combat and actually made blocking with a weapon viable, like if you time a weapon block right as an attack hits you it doesn’t deal stamina damage and does a little stance damage. That could have easily existed in this game. Their could even be different recoil animations for every weapon class.
Colossal weapons are already excellent for blocking with a great alternative: counter attacks. Sekiro's counter is excellent, but we already have an alternative. But the problem is that outside collosal, you take a decent amount of damage.
It would probably break the game and having to balance around both deflecting and rolling would be impossible. The reason why sekiro works is because the attacks you must deflect in a boss you can't dodge (most of the time at least)
It is always a pleasure watching your videos! I started playing sekiro because of you, 2 years ago. Thanks for always entertaining your followers man, great content as always. Much Love Mr Ongbal ❤️🌷
@@yahia5476 No she doesn’t. If you’re referring to that video (you know what I’m talking about if you’re making this point) then know that it means nothing. It’s not objective at all. All his conclusions are 100% opinion-based.
It's like parrying the combat arts One Mind from Sekiro only the AoE from the multiple slashes is much longer. I assume that was the asset that led to creating the Waterfowl Dance.
I was waiting for this. Glad you tried this MOD. I knew you'd nail it. Though I'd still prefer swordsmanship MOD over this when it comes to deflect. The other looks more polished imo.
Of course I also tried the Swordsmanship mod too, but unfortunately consecutive deflects are not possible in the Swordsmanship mod, and above all, parry focused play was not possible due to Malenia's HP drain 😩
@@_ONGBAL yup, figures. The developer of that MOD hasnt updated it since june. Though an online friend of mine claimed its possible to use both MODs simultaneously though I doubt it can nullify Malenia’s lifesteal if you’ll use swordsmanship deflect in a reforge modded Elden ring.
As a diehard sekiro fan I can say this works well. Some differences that I feel like would work in the fight would be during malenias second phase, rot would build up during her waterfowl even when you’re deflecting (depending on perfect timing it would build up much less), mikiri counter would be epic during the lunge, I personally would count her leg attacks as sweeps which can’t be deflected (which is a bit much), but overall I can see the dance is there. By the dance I mean the feeling I get when playing sekiro, and the ebb and flow of the fight. This showcases that amazingly well, and personally I think malenia would be really difficult if you didn’t have kuros charm, miss-timed deflections would heal her.
Well, your first suggestion is already in the mod. If you don't get a perfect deflect, you still take a lot of the status/non-physical damage. The other suggestions would be impossible to implement with current modding tools though I'd imagine.
With the patch 1.0.0 files restored on console, players have uncovered that Malenia actually blocks attacks with her weapon and a different ( or probably the first version of) Waterfowl dance where she stands on one leg and slices three times while hopping. It's pretty insane seeing FromSoft bosses in different games.
The only problem is the inability to consecutive deflect in swordmanship, really just waiting for the mod author to re appear and drop the update to it that he made a video on 2 months ago that adds consecutive deflects.
You looked right at home, Ongbal... Must've felt really satisfying. Kudos to you for such consistent displays of dominance over the hardest boss in the game, if not the series.
Classic Ongbal, honestly seems like elden ring should've had deflect from the beginning, especially seeing how fluidly you were able to implement it into your fighting style.
Not really deflects but they should at least make a perfect block mechanic, if you block and you get hit on the first frames of the animation of rising up your shield or weapon you would receive 0 damage and you wouldnt lose any stamina either, this mechanic would apply to anything you can block with and i think it would improve a lot guard counters specially if you block using a two handed weapon
@@user-yk5ql9gz9b Not really. Elden Ring bosses just have very complicated movesets but theyre still very dodgeable with proper positionings and timings . This honestly should be part of FROM's future games, the sekiro parry style just feels so good and fun to play, hope to see more of other bosses with this mod
my theory is that tomoe was originally going to be a boss in sekiro, maybe in a dlc, but they scrapped it and brought her over to elden ring in the form of malenia. her waterfowl dance move resembles spiral cloud passage so much, and her fight just seems like it would fit with sekiro's combat more considering how quick and aggressive she is, she almost feels like she just doesn't belong in this game. waterfowl dance just looks like it wants to be deflected, imagine the utter spectacle of the scene with sekiro perfectly deflecting every slash along with all the sparks and sounds that make sekiro's deflect mechanic so satisfying. instead we get... sprint away, dodge, sprint some more, dodge, and dodge, or whatever the sequence was

Even though everyone begs for another game with Sekiro combat, they fail to see how little variety there would be with builds. Sekiro was great for a one off, or a small series, but that’s it.
I’m literally having a nerdgasm! Sure this gameplay is kinda “simplistic” since there is no Mikiri/jump counter, but having the fundamental of “dancing with the boss” that the parry has is more than enough for me!
I wouldn't say this game is simplistic in any way possible. It has got way more options than sekiro. Sekiro just got a very tight and consistent combat system, which feels snappy and fun. Elden Ring is meant to be taken a bit more slowly and more methodically, like a traditional RPG game
malenia is a very mixed boss for me. Shes the most fun because I fight her like im playing sekiro and deflect + misericorde repost, but she can get very frustrating with the health regen, ng+ level health bar, and two phases.
The major problem with malenia that makes her an undercooked boss isn't her waterfowl dance but how much she runs away and for how long you have to run before an opening, the deflection mods legit solve this problem in a really nice way which again just confirms that she was a Sekiro boss...
And yet there are people doing Malenia at lvl 1 naked with a club no hit. I get the hate if she was a mandatory boss, but shes an optiobal boss designed to be an insane challenge, and does that well. The better you get at her fight, the more you will realise that even tho shes really the hardest boss in the game, if it wasnt for Watefowl shed also the single most balanced as well. And with Waterfowl...it could use some tuning. But the fight is still amazing with it.
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. It’s boring having to just run away while she does that move. Without it I think the fights pretty good but if this game had a deflect that fight would be incredible. They took sekiro enemies and put it in a game without a deflect. Why.
@@mihal1570 I probably should have mentioned this, but just because she is under cooked it doesn't mean that she is impossible to defeat, in fact I've done that exact same thing for about 300 players making about 22 million runes. Its not that she is undefeatable or too hard, she is poorly designed in context to the mechanics of the game. If I put Genichiro as a Dark Souls 3 boss I don't doubt for a second that people will defeat him, naked, with a club, while using bananas as input... But that wouldn't make him a good boss, because of the mechanics of the game. A good final boss (optional or not) is one that challenges you to use all the mechanics that you have learned so far, to their maximum.
@@thatguywiththeguitar7203 I disagree. I think a true test should be reserved for the final boss. That's why Isshin is the greatest final boss imo, followed by Cinder. A player shouldn't be able to miss out on this test by having it be in a secret optional area and it would be rundant to have both, e.g. if you had to fight Issin for main game ending but an optional boss was the Way of Tomeo version of Genichero. It would just be more of the same. An endgame optional boss should throw you for a loop, you know, kind of like how Sekiro did, with Demon of Hatred (which makes your complaint ironic, as you're making this comment in a section of a game that did the very thing you are complaining about).
Malenia was absolutely a scrapped Sekiro boss, likely Lady Tomoe given how close Water Fowl is to Spiral Cloud Passage. That’s honestly why the fight is so difficult for most people, it wasn’t built around Elden Ring. You even have a highly telegraphed thrust attack, you can practically hear the perilous attack alert sound.
This mod is sick and although there are many that would say it's sad that this isn't in the original game I believe that fromsoft did the right decision to exclude the ability to deflect as it makes the game 10x easier to play and it wouldn't be a souls game but a sort of weird mix between the souls and sekiro, just isn't the right gamemodel to implement such style of play. This does look really impressive and cool tho ngl.
Have you tryed the mod? It has a difficulty mode called Shura that is hell on hearth. Give it a try, you will change your opinion about how "easier" the mod makes the vanilla game.
They already gave us Mimic tear, Tiche, Comet Azur, bleed etc. Elden Ring difficulty can already range from extremely tough to brain-dead easy depending on how you play.
@@xviii5780 The difference here is that those features were new and the developers couldn't really predict just overpowered they would actually be. Another thing is that the player can decide the pace of the game himslef and decide which level they want to fight each boss, with deflect as shown in the video here you get the ability to fight bosses at practically any level or atleast a significantly lower level than what you would if you played the game today.
@@jerskrued3697 They didn't nerf any of the overpowered things afterwards (aside from SoNaF and Mimic tear, but they only went from absurd to op), and that means everything works as intended. Deflect shown in the video is better than roll in some specific cases (fast light attacks, usually humanoid bosses), and worse in general, as it has much stricter timing than roll and the punish you get if you miss a deflect and your guard breaks is massive. Also the mod has many difficulty tweaks and is generally even harder than vanilla game, but more fair.
@@jerskrued3697 if you don't want an OP summon don't use them or don't upgrade them or find one that doest finish the fight for you. My summon is strictly to pull aggro (no shabriri's woe) but they can't solo a boss unless I set them up to do it. There's a sweet spot to the difficulty
After playing Sekiro for around 20hrs and have fought Malenia in Elden Ring, I came to the conclusion she would be a better boss if she was in Sekiro and Elden Ring would be a better game if it had Sekiro defense and Bloodborne aggressiveness, the bosses are fast and VERY aggressive, having Sekiro parry and/or Bloodborne evasion the combat would be more fluid and interesting
Ongbal makes any boss fight look good. Malenia isn't suddenly a good boss just because you can deflect now. Someone can accomplish similar with just a greatshield.

Swordmanship changes up the animations with its sekiro deflect, but it doesn't have consecutive deflects yet since the mod author for it has gone quiet after showing footage of him getting it working.
Sekiro combat is godly. Elden Ring doesn't even come close to being as fluid or having sounds that are as crisp. The sword clash noise is next level. I even feel like Sekiro has more side quests than ER lol.
disgusting that a boss like this made it into a game where you can't deflect dark souls tells you to roll sekiro tells you that rolling is shit bc enemies track now, gives you the ability to deflect elden ring tells you to roll, and then throws a sekiro boss at you, without giving you deflect
@@yab3146 me tbh its the best boss from sekiro, the lore the cinematic experience mid combat the ost the absolute chaos and total experience of the boss fight was brilliant and magnificient, they took the idea of a japanese folklore demon and brought it to life for you to enjoy the battle, it is hard and a rewarding battle but i do wish the demon wasnt like a dark souls boss who just lets the player hit them without defending, i kinda disliked that about dark souls bosses and demon of hatred they should defend your attacks

I don't think tomoe would be this easy ofcourse fromsoft have to adjust Malenia's attacks for elden ring but still I can't see her being this easy
yep. Two legendary swordwomen who both came from a huge tree and use a waterflow dance... makes you wonder
Tbf you don’t have to kill malenia on every play through she’s an optional boss
Sekiro has the best combat in Souls, kinda wish they implemented it more in their next games.
exactly, I think she was meant to be Tomoe in sekiro but due to the unknown virus of unspecified origin we just didn't get that dlc for sekiro
sorry, but only casuals who spent too little time on malenia think so, she is incredibly slow for a sekiro boss
@@coltbusick6644 ah, yes. This had completely slipped my mind. Good call.
Ongbal has a video with it in there as well
@@splinterskulll very interesting! I’m on PS4 so I have not had the pleasure of experiencing what you describe, though I will be poking my nose through Almighty Ongbal’s channel to witness this. Thank you for pointing this out!
Seeing Waterfowl Dance perfectly deflected with a sword is healing the trauma I got from dying to Malenia 50 times in a row in my first playthrough.
poor artorias, manus transported bro to lands between
I really wish they added deflects into the game, it would have added so much more depth to the combat and actually made blocking with a weapon viable, like if you time a weapon block right as an attack hits you it doesn’t deal stamina damage and does a little stance damage. That could have easily existed in this game. Their could even be different recoil animations for every weapon class.
blocking with a weapon is viable, but only with heavier ones, check giant crusher stats if you don't believe me
Colossal weapons are already excellent for blocking with a great alternative: counter attacks.
@@AntonisVaik well...elden ring is already pretty broken...
@@barkerbarks2537 Exactly. We don't need more broken builds.
It is always a pleasure watching your videos! I started playing sekiro because of you, 2 years ago.

Never thought I’d see the waterfowl dance DEFLECTED. Truly a work of art
It's neat that mods get to give you a way to show some of the _Sekiro_ skills you have in a different context!
Very enjoyable, like every single gameplay from you. Thanks! 😊
Sekiro deflections are so satisfying!!!! Thanks for bringing awesome videos ONGBAL!!!! :D
The waterfowl parry is so satisfying
It's like parrying the combat arts One Mind from Sekiro only the AoE from the multiple slashes is much longer. I assume that was the asset that led to creating the Waterfowl Dance.
@@Mj0Skyver I think it's more like the Spiral cloud passage combat arts
I was waiting for this. Glad you tried this MOD. I knew you'd nail it. Though I'd still prefer swordsmanship MOD over this when it comes to deflect. The other looks more polished imo.
Of course I also tried the Swordsmanship mod too, but unfortunately consecutive deflects are not possible in the Swordsmanship mod, and above all, parry focused play was not possible due to Malenia's HP drain 😩
@@_ONGBAL yup, figures. The developer of that MOD hasnt updated it since june. Though an online friend of mine claimed its possible to use both MODs simultaneously though I doubt it can nullify Malenia’s lifesteal if you’ll use swordsmanship deflect in a reforge modded Elden ring.
lol, no, it is not more polished at all. Looks cooler but thats all, you can not chain consecutive deflects on it
glad to see you took my suggestion. great work as always man!
Love this. Looks like im going back to elden ring 😂 thanks again, incredible work God Ongbal 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
😎👍
YEEES, been waiting for this!!
Bro, I can't stop saying 'how' (in complete and utter awe) throughout the entirety of this battle! 😮💯👏🏼👏🏼
This is amazing. Watching you play so aggressively against this boss is cathartic as hell. No more running from waterfowl: just deflect it!
The deflect from Swordsmanship mod feels better tbh, since you actually have to time it perfectly to not be damaged and the animation is cooler
All of the bosses in elden ring feel like sekiro bosses. I feel like they were made for the wrong game.
@@user-yk5ql9gz9b really? They feel like blood borne bosses, not sekiro imo
@@user-yk5ql9gz9b Not really. Elden Ring bosses just have very complicated movesets but theyre still very dodgeable with proper positionings and timings . Ultimately, theyre not really as ferocious as Sekiro bosses. The only ER boss I can say that would fit very well in Sekiro would be Malenia but even then, bosses like Isshin or Owl Father is way more aggresive and faster than her.
@@user-yk5ql9gz9b Most of sekiro bosses are very aggressive and fast, and their attacks really make you be toe to toe with em. God this is beautiful, Malenia would have been a *fantastic* Sekiro boss (regardless of how implausible it is I choose to believe she was made from some unfinished remnant of Tomoe, imagine those wings but with like sakura petals and lightening instead it'd be wonderful!), I _really_ enjoy Elden Ring but I wish the combat would have been more fluid/dynamic like this mod
This mod is so cool! I’d love to see more if you like how it plays.
Ahh, I knew the modding community wouldn't disappoint. I was hoping for this exact mechanic to be implemented since a long time ago. I'm glad someone has got it working well
It doesn't matter how many times I've seen you killing Malenia it's always impressive.
So tbh I played all FS games, my fav are ER and DS3 but the deflection mechanic in sekiro is to me the best kind of combat gameplay I ever played
This honestly should be part of FROM's future games, the sekiro parry style just feels so good and fun to play, hope to see more of other bosses with this mod
This is so cool :D I was thinking about it literally since I first fought her
I like the deflect with the waterfowl and the triple slash at 0:34 and 0:38, so satisfying
Malenia but actually fun
물새난격을 세키로식 패링... 귀한 영상이네요...
Watching you just stare down waterfowl and then perfect block it made my day
my theory is that tomoe was originally going to be a boss in sekiro, maybe in a dlc, but they scrapped it and brought her over to elden ring in the form of malenia. her waterfowl dance move resembles spiral cloud passage so much, and her fight just seems like it would fit with sekiro's combat more considering how quick and aggressive she is, she almost feels like she just doesn't belong in this game. waterfowl dance just looks like it wants to be deflected, imagine the utter spectacle of the scene with sekiro perfectly deflecting every slash along with all the sparks and sounds that make sekiro's deflect mechanic so satisfying. instead we get... sprint away, dodge, sprint some more, dodge, and dodge, or whatever the sequence was
1:20 MIKIRI THAT!!

Sekiro players: now it's time for us to shine
Even though everyone begs for another game with Sekiro combat, they fail to see how little variety there would be with builds. Sekiro was great for a one off, or a small series, but that’s it.
I half expected you to mikiri counter her when she was about to do her thrust attack lol
Imagine if elden ring was actually this good
Just wondering, how lenient is the parry window for this mod? Iirc Sekiro’s parry window was 30 frames
According to the mod description,
'Perfect deflects last for 3 frames (30 FPS).'
it's amazing how you control this fight
Now that was a great clash of blades. Really hope to she what they've got from Sekiro into future DLCs
I wonder what’s better, this or the Swordsmanship mod? It seems you can multideflect nicely with this mod, so I’m guessing reforged is superior.
This is so awesome. I only really wish that Malenia’s kick was unblockable, but otherwise this is amazing
this is immensely satisfying, malenia always felt like a sekiro boss you should go katana to katana with
let the content speak for itself
Bro literally bring malenia to his domain (sekiro) 💀
I’m literally having a nerdgasm!
Sure this gameplay is kinda “simplistic” since there is no Mikiri/jump counter, but having the fundamental of “dancing with the boss” that the parry has is more than enough for me!
I wouldn't say this game is simplistic in any way possible. It has got way more options than sekiro. Sekiro just got a very tight and consistent combat system, which feels snappy and fun. Elden Ring is meant to be taken a bit more slowly and more methodically, like a traditional RPG game
@@TheLazerSword At the end of the day it all devolves into dodge rolling no matter what the "build" is.
Oh THIS is something I need!
Ongbal, you're the coolest!
malenia is a very mixed boss for me.
This is incredible
I NEED THIS,WE NEED THIS,EVERYBODY NEEDS THIS!!!!!!!!!!
she would literally be perfect for a sekiro boss, not only that, an amazing and fun boss too
Amazing. I think it also matters that Malenia doesn’t self-heal on a successful block/parry - which is a completely BS mechanic in the original game.
Nice to see this battle as it was meant to be fought.
This guy keeps getting more content by mods, but we enjoy it including me
물새난격 때 우산 돌리는 상상을 얼마나 했는지..
It's probably the copy of phase 3 Genichiro leap attack which is used every time you use a flask
It isn't
YOOO, Malenia you boutta learn today!
Ongbal boutta have a field day with this 🤣🖤I can’t wait
someone needs to add the stagger meter and modify the stagger numbers as it seems to happen too quickly. otherwise exciting
Yeah, like posture in Sekiro
I agree. I also feel like they made deflecting way too strong and it needs to be toned down a lot. This mod isn't very balanced imo.
A Sekiro mod for Elden Ring ? Heck yes. I was waiting for it. I was sure someone would do that someday.
ongbal is getting crazier and crazier with this boss and mods
After playing Sekiro for around 20hrs and have fought Malenia in Elden Ring, I came to the conclusion she would be a better boss if she was in Sekiro and Elden Ring would be a better game if it had Sekiro defense and Bloodborne aggressiveness, the bosses are fast and VERY aggressive, having Sekiro parry and/or Bloodborne evasion the combat would be more fluid and interesting
So, Malenia is basically an easy sekiro boss put in a souls like game
this makes so much sense
Man that makes this fight a walk in the park.

I even feel like Sekiro has more side quests than ER lol.

disgusting that a boss like this made it into a game where you can't deflect
dark souls tells you to roll
sekiro tells you that rolling is shit bc enemies track now, gives you the ability to deflect
