Fell in love with Julie Christie when I saw this movie.Met a girl with blonde hair and blue eyes like hers. We married in 1973. We were married for 34 years. Lost her to breast cancer in 2007. My heart and spirit are still broken.

Yes, it showed a real love story because he was still so crazy for her till at old age and i felt really like a ball in the throat when he was so close to her in the end and the voice did not come out 😢. Nowadays the social media would destroy him as actor when they would start to write about his belief , roots and name. Omar Sharif gave all his best for this film and Julie Christie too.

It may have been a "love story", but it also clearly illustrates how utterly destructive Marxism is.
The rest of their society literally fell apart around them in a very short time.

Interestingly- owing to the book being banned in the USSR- a copy was smuggled out to friends of the family who had emigrated to Italy- they got it translated into Italian, and that was the first published and available for sale edition. It was only in Gorbachev's time that Boris Pasternak's granddaughter was able to pick up him Nobel Prize on his behalf, with Gorbachev's approval.

I won the music competition at school, playing this on violin. There were two initial rounds (which I won) followed by the final when all bonuses for difficulty etc were removed. This affected all scores but fortunately there was a Senior Prize (the biggest aggregate of points) and I won this by a wide margin. Thank you everyone at Allestree Woodlands School, and in particular Mr. Spencer, Head of music. I miss those days so much.

Then I saw it on my own twice. Only time I ever did that. I must have watched it dozens of times since. Possibly the finest film I ever saw. Es una de las películas más bellas que he visto. La vi en el año 1967. Toda ella fue hermosa. El tema, la música ni qué decir, hermosisima. Los paisajes, el vestuario, los actores de primera. @For Paws - I don't call the Queen - "Her Majesty" etc. George Washington made it clear we are democracy and he made it clear that we should address him as "Mr. President" - America does not have royalty. For Paws --> “Sir" is a prefix added by GB for one of their citizen. I am not from Great Britain and do not have to subscribe to their nuances. I don't recall English using the title "Mahatma" when referring to Gandhi. The English has been a duplicitous and cunning group of people. They don't deserve anything more, if not less.

Whenever I hear this, I can SEE the little joys of Dr. Zhivago in his twinkling eyes in his serene face; his efforts to have a last glimpse of his beloved; his emotional turmoil.Oh! So heart squeezing! Only Lean could do justice to the novel capturing the psyche of Boris Pasternak.

I was about 10 when this movie came out, still young enough to go with my family (back when major studios still made movies whole families could see). Mom later took me back to see the matinee three or four times. Such a great movie, the romance part went mostly over my head although while Julie Christie was absurdly beautiful I remember thinking I would have liked Geraldine Chaplin. Mom died recently at 100. Think of her when I hear this - the beautiful happily married suburban housewife with a dweeby kid and maybe just a tiny crush on Omar Shariff.
