I also always thought Edward N. did a pretty great job as Hulk but I think you will also like Mark R. He also does a great job with the character.
They portray it differently but I think Edward was/would have been the better hulk
Agreed... Also I'd say Tim Roth did quite well... Actually found him quite menacing here.
I never found Ruffalo convincing at all as Banner - and once the MCU writers emasculated Hulk by basically making him a larger green Mark it was just sad to watch.
Norton on the other hand did a great job IMHO, totally believable as Banner and the last bit of the fight with Abomination was just epicly brutal enraged Hulk five seconds from ripping his head off - even General Ross was taken aback at just how much he had misjudged Banner's character when he realised just how similar they are underneath.
@Paul WT Exactly right - the problem is that they decided that EVERYTHING must be capable of becoming a joke in the MCU and it completely takes away from both Hulk and Thor's characters.
@@nt78stonewobble Tim Roth is excellent at being menacing, he has credit well beyond this film for it.
ang lee's the hulk came out 5 years earlier so they didnt want to just re tell the same origin story again.
I actually liked Ang Lee's Hulk for what it was, and I will defend it as at the very least a different artistic take.

Yeah. I always just view this as a continuation of Ang Lee's Hulk.
@@joaosoares-rr5mj I mean just say you hate comics while you're at it. If you ever read a good amount hulk comics you'd find out about the enemies he faces. Some of them were gamma-infused dogs sent by General Ryker, the film just had it sent by his father who had a fusion of the Absorbing man/ZZzax abilities. One can duplicate properties of anything he touches and the other is an electrical being! Comics are fictitious and to talk about any of this with any real form of criticism needs to take a harder look at oneself rather than the content that they are consuming.
After re-watching this movie with Natalie I feel it has two of the Hulk's most epic moments in the MCU. The entire college campus scene was epic. It felt more visceral than other Hulk things we've seen in the MCU. Also, the most savage moment for the Hulk in the entire MCU is when he kicks Blonsky into a tree. I don't think the modern MCU movies would show something like that now. That's the only time in the MCU I feel the Hulk felt no issue with brutally killing someone.
But Blonsky survived cause he had some of the serum inside, end in the end BLONSKY was Abomination, and even then he didnt die, only incapacitated, and General ROSS has him in some top black site, under ultra heavy sedatives in human form!!

It's also odd because it's the only Hulk movie :( i wouldn't have minded another one at all. With Mark or Ed. Just odd how Hulk was turned into a more side character..
@@CrazeeAdam It's just that Universal Pictures has the distribution rights to Hulk and Namor movies, so Marvel has decided to wait until those rights revert back to them. Some online outlets claim it's happening now. But I agree, Hulk has become a bit a side (kick) character. For Hulk fans, this and Avengers 1 is the best we got.
I remember watching this in the theaters when I was 8, weird that this is part of the MCU now
For the longest time it was the one MCU movie I hadn't seen, and was expecting the worst. But it's actually pretty good! Better than Thor 2 and Avengers 2, imo.

The thing I loved most about this film is that the sound effects of Hulk screaming in rage actually sounded human, and not like some wild animal roaring like has been done in the past. That primal scream of unbridled fury sends shivers down my spine more than any monster roar.
Voice actor Fred Tataschore (That may be spelled wrong) does a great Hulk voice.

I will always love this movies design of Hulk. He is absolutely ripped and isn't just puffy like other versions. Plus, love the detail they put into his muscles. Also really liked Abomination.
he was too stringy looking... the Ruffalo Hulk was far better and not as weak as this one. that is until Disney neutered him.
@@markmcelligott2542 Yeah those are called muscles, I agree this Hulk design was the most intimidating
He was so jacked he looked like he had no skin. Like it was just green muscle. He looked like a thoughtful monster in this one. In the Avengers, Hulk just looks like a green shaved gorilla.
@@markmcelligott2542 Agreed, that stringy look is off putting, it’s like his skin is gonna split open. 2012 Hulk looked much better, he’s big, bulky, and doesn’t look like he’s been cutting water for a week.
@@markmcelligott2542 Ruffalo was originally the director’s first choice for The Incredible Hulk.
I'm glad you were told about the after credits scenes. You need to look for the Stan Lee cameos. Also, Liv Tyler even had a "Daddy I love him" in the LOTR movies as well.
Is Betty Ross the Red Skull’s daughter? 😳🤯😱
I love the way you react. RIP my ears with headphones but I loved this video. Can't wait for your further MCU reactions.
TIH is considered a less popular MCU entry but it's one of the better ones. Norton is fantastic, it's nimble between great moments of horror, comic book action, & it's got alot of ❤, tipping the hat to original TV Hulks Bill Bixby & Lou Ferrigno - very sweet. It's the one adaptation that captures the tragedy of the character & how much it sucks to be the Hulk. Norton fought hard behind the scenes to make the story more dimensional - and he succeeded - but at the cost of his relationship with Marvel. Great movie.
Natalie: hes green and big so it must be gamma radiation.
Like its commen sense that green and muscle equals gamma rays everyone knows that😂
my comment of the day!
I’m glad that I’m not the only one who thought this.
Makes me wonder if Nat is already knowledgeable with these characters and films.
The idea incepts its own existence into Natalie's brain.
So... if Kermit were big he would be The Hulk, right?
Incredible Hulk is easily the most under-rated Marvel movie. It deserves more love.
So true
Agreed!
Especially the look of Hulk in the movie. Hulk looked absolutely shredded and the detail they added to the muscles, the stubble, and his eyes. He doesn't look all puffy and swol like he did in ang lee's Hulk or avengers Hulk
What really sucks is that The Incredible Hulk made $264 million at the box office and the fact that it came out a month after Iron Man around that same year is just baffling, and it is the only character to not get a sequel after that (other than Black Widow). Plus I believe the Hulk sequel could’ve set up Leonard Samson be bombarded with gamma rays and become what he is like in the comics/cartoon series, introducing Rick Jones/A-Bomb in the MCU, and Samuel Sterns creating a gamma army. But because Universal realized how poorly The Incredible Hulk received, they ended up deciding not to release another Hulk movie, and have to keep the rights for exactly 15 frickin’ years.
The thing about the Hulk is he just keeps coming! He only gets angrier and angrier and that’s pretty much his source of power more or less? 😅
The guy that drank from the contaminated bottle was THE Man himself, Mr. Stan Lee. I know you can't include everything in your reactions, but I thought I'd mention that because...well, Stan Lee should be mentioned any time you can.
PS, if you didn't know, Ms. Gold, Stan Lee does appear in EVERY MCU film through "Avengers Endgame." Might be something to watch for on your future viewings.
Well, actually he's in every Marvel movie since the X-Men one in the year 2000.
@@LeonBlackbird Setting aside that Ms. Gold is watching through the MCU, so that's the most relevant, this also isn't true. He wasn't in X2 or Days Of Future Past, neither the Thomas Jane Punisher or Punisher: Warzone, neither of the Ghost Rider movies, neither of the Blade films that came out after X-Men....to name just a few.
And all 3 Sam Raimi Spiderman movies
If you're getting picky about Stan Lee cameos, then don't forget to mention that he was also making cameos when they were doing the made-for-tv movies. 1989 Trial of The Incredible Hulk also had a version of Thor & John Rhys-Davies as the Kingpin. Aside from narrating the cartoons I think that is his first official on camera cameo for Marvel movies.
Bruce isn't really afraid that Hulk will hurt Betty; He is afraid that being the Hulk will put her in danger from others (like her Father).

Colgate Bitch I was being sarcastic and making a joke about how big studios set up storylines that we get excited to see play out but then they abandon them and we never get a conclusion. I still want my money back for Amazing Spider-Man 1&2 because they set us up for a third movie that never happened.
I've been watching all the comic book movies as they come out for the last twenty years or more. And honestly, i think Ruffalo is the best live-action Hulk so far. He plays a vulnerability that neither of the others had. Like a guy who's almost always just desperately trying to keep it together.
I also think that one of the best things this movie did is _imply_ a connection to the previous hulk movie from 2003 without giving anything too definite. It's definitely my favorite way to handle continuity from a divisive previous film. So if you hated the 2003 hulk, it's a fresh start. But if you liked it, you can see the connections carrying over into this one.
There is an earlier Hulk movie that is his origin story. I was not well received but rather than erase it and repeat it they seemed to just assume if you did not know Hulk's origins you would get enough of it through the opening shots.
I think they did the “origin” in the opening credits because the origin is pretty well known and has been shown in movies/tv before.
LOL though always differently in each.
Yeah, like even people who've never read a comic know the Hulk, know the basics. Plus they had just done "HULK" in 2003 I think and I haven't seen it but if they did the full origin there, no need to repeat it again and be too similar.
Exactly and it’s also the reason why there is no origin background story to Peter Parker in the Marvel universe films as well. Kevin Feige also felt it wasn’t necessary.
@@CR41489 yeah and they aren't. The vast majority of the audience knows what they need to know about Spider-Man, Hulk, Batman, Superman. Probably at this point you could throw Wolverine and some X-Men in there. Too.

Natalie the entire opening credits scene was literally showing you how he became the Hulk lol. Also Lou Ferrigno played the Hulk in the 70s The Incredble Hulk TV series. This movie has tons of references to the tv series. Including the machine in the opening credits thst turned him into the hulk.
Exactly! Besides, the whole "origin" aspect would've taken too much focus off the rest of the movie. I think it was a smart move.
Fuck Feringo, it is that way cause FIRST HULK was played 2003 by ERIC BANA, Than 2008 Incredible HULK by EDWARD NORTON, and in the first AVANGERS they put MARK RUFFALO in to the mix!! And RUFFALO continued!
@@biznisman7049 Eric Bana sucked as the Hulk. The entire opening credits scenes in The Incredible Hulk is a direct reference to the pilot episode of the 70s The Incredible Hulk TV series.
It's also that way (the references to the show) because Ed Norton rewrote the script to include comic and tv show references (like his eyes turning green when angry). His rewrites and want of more script control, in order to have those references, are the reason why he was recast in Avengers. The studio simply didn't want to fork over anymore creative control to an actor and were scared they would have another Robert Downey Jr (who also demanded script control)

This movie was amazing, and I'm glad people appreciate it.
Easily the best live action hulk we’ve ever gotten
Even though it is an MCU movie, it feels like it is set in a different universe despite being a part of the same universe.
Even though this movie is in a separate continuity, it picks up where the 2003 Ang Lee Hulk film ended, which is why it doesn't really go into his origin
yes watch that one first...
The editing in that one was really weird.
The beginning was the abridged origin of Hulk.
The origin is that he was hit by gamma radiation. We never needed a movie for that.
Don't make me Ang Lee, you wouldn't like me when I'm Ang Lee.
Hi, I'm from Brazil and I really love your channel. Your reactions are so good! I'm expecting the next videos and I really want to follow your journey through the MCU.
Watching this in the theater for the first time was quite an experience. "Hulk Smash" the Thunderclap and "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry" were all fan service from comics and previous movies and TV shows of The Hulk. Great fan service.
Just so everyone is clear:
This movie is the second film of 'phase one' of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is very much a part of the MCU. Hulk (2003) however, is not. While this film can easily be argued to be a spiritual sequel to that film (as well as a mixture of other Hulk media), nothing Hulk-related prior to this film and its generalized opening sequence is canon to this film, or the MCU in general.
She is clearly going in order of actual Marvel Studios released movies and I'm glad that it doesn't appear that she is going to skip any "lesser" movies in the franchise. As she said she liked this one quite a bit, she will probably at least get a pretty decent level of enjoyment out of even the 'weaker' movies of the franchise and really enjoy the strong stuff.
I think I read somewhere, when marvel first started production on this movie, it was a direct sequel Hulk.
They then made a few script changes and such and made it fit the MCU they were building a bit better.
That's why it has a few nods to Hulk, but doesn't fit very well as a sequel.
Except for the opening credit sequence, I think it fits pretty well as a sequel to the 2003 Hulk. I know the 2003 Hulk isn't supposed to be part of the MCU, but I don't understand why. (I don't remember if the 2003 Hulk has any post-credit scenes - maybe that disqualifies it.) If you don't count the 2003 Hulk, then the Hulk character only gets one stand-alone movie; and that's kinda sad. I like the stand-alone movies better than the Avengers movies, and I like the 2003 Hulk movie better than this one.
@@spencerbookman2523 you might be right. It's been too long since I have watched the 2003 Hulk
@@spencerbookman2523 There's a simple reason why Hulk got no sequels: Movie production, publication and contribution rights. Marvel owns the rights to use Hulk in ensemble movies like the Avengers because he's a core member and associated with this group. As a standalone character, the production rights belong to Disney / Marvel but distribution rights still belong to Universal.
In the 2nd Avengers there was a similar problem with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch: They are members and associates of the avengers which Marvel owns the rights for but at the same time being Mutants makes them members and associated with the X-Men franchise which at the time was owned by 20th Century Fox (now owned by Disney and renamed to 20th Century Studios). So the 2 studios had to come to an agreement regarding those characters and in the end, marvel was allowed to use these characters but had to cut all connections to the X-Men (Mutants, X-Gene, Magneto etc.)
@@aspenator42 You thought wrong. It was never considered a sequel of Ang Lee's HULK. Both movies used the medical research origin used by the television series instead of the comic book origin as a Gamma Bomb developer. The Ultimates Comic version of the Hulk was trying to replicate the Super Soldier Serum, substituting gamma rays for the nebulous term Vita Rays.
“Are they going to have a rain moment?” lol
For the record, yes, "Hulk Smash" is pretty much a trademark saying. It's like Arnold Schwarzenegger's "I'll be back." Also, the reason they aren't together at the end is because, yes, the Hulk wouldn't hurt her, but Hulk's appearances does tend to make insurance costs skyrocket if you get my meaning. Not to mention, if they stay together, Betty wouldn't be able to have a safe, normal life as people would try to still use/destroy the Hulk.
it's somehow refreshing to see someone that knows so little about these movies. I can't wait to see you watch the other ones!
When I first saw this movie on HBO Max I noticed a few things:
- Blueprints for the Sonic Cannons are designed by Stark Industries.
- S.H.I.E.L.D. logo pops up in a few scenes, most notably when Bruce Banner sends an email to Samuel Sterns.
-Tony Stark himself in the final scene of the movie.
-Also Nick Fury is mentioned by name in the opening credits.
Nat the reason they didn't show his origin story in this movie is because we already got his origin story like fifteen times before this one, and the Hulk that came out just before this (2003, Eric Bana plays main character) is probably one of the best cinematography experiences in Marvel. So they kind of treated that one as the origin story, and this one as the next chapter where we tie-in Hulk to the MCU.
Nat before watching movie: "I would assume that he becomes the Hulk from from accident involving Gamma rays. That's the only thing that makes sense that would make someone green like that." ...*squints* ...what are you a nuclear physicist AND a cellular biologist?! Seems suspicious. lol

So the backstory of Hulk is that the Military guy who’s chases him was actually working with him before. He told banner to create a serum wich makes you immune to radiation. What he didn’t tell Banner was that the stuff he gave him to make it was actually the „Super Soldier serum“ which gave Captain America his powers. So Banner wanted to impress him by using the Serum and proving it works on himself with gammar radiation. That’s what turned him into the hulk

She's saying "awwwhh" for this "romance"... just wait till she watches Captain America.
Damn, Hayley Atwell is amazing. Absolute dame (as was the parlance in the 40s :D)
Wasnt really much romance in there tbh
Be respectful when you talk about my tomato - Moe Howard
Didn't she do the same thing in Lord of The Rings? "Daddy, I love him."
Yeah, but she did it in low, melodic tones...gave it a bit of gravitas, I think.
6:53 "Oh, he's going to destroy the soda factory. The poor soda factory." This just epitomizes you as a person. A genuine emotional response to the idea of a building being destroyed.
If I recall correctly, in this version, Bruce became the Hulk from failed attempts to recreate the Super-Soldier serum that created Captain America - which is also what turned Emil Blonsky into "The Abomination". As for "what happened to the professor", he begins to transform into a well-known Marvel comics villain known as "The Leader" (who's never seen again in Marvel movies). And the final fight doesn't take place in Manhattan/NYC per se, it takes place in Harlem, which is a rarity for most movies. Note: As an inside joke, the one bottle with Bruce's blood that was consumed by an elderly man was played by Hulk co-creator Stan Lee, who's done cameos in every Marvel movie.
Betty (and Betsy) were nicknames for Elizabeth back in the 60's when she was created.
Finally! I haven't seen this one, it isn't the best from what I've heard, but I'm glad YOU ARE doing these MCU reactions! You have a long exciting journey ahead of you!!
and by the way the professor was gonna become "The Leader", a head-enhanced supervillain. But alas we'll never see him anymore :P
Also, Betty's psychologist boyfriend was Doctor Samson, aka Doc Samson from the comics.
Marvel studio wants audiences to forget that this movie even exists, its really a forgotten chapter that’s been buried in the canon.
So fun watching this! So fun seeing your reactions to it. Again, watching your channel is like seeing these films for the first time. Thanks! Keep it up!
If you don't like him when he's hungry just give him a Snickers.
"we didn't get to see him get there." (become the Hulk) Yes you did. It was the opening of the movie that caused you so much confusion about whether you watching the correct film.
This movie was masterfully made. It acknowledged both the Bill Bixby tv series and the Ang Lee movie without dismissing them from canon or declaring them canon. Hulk fans were divided by both of those attempts to bring the green goliath to life. The careful writing of this movie made it easier for fans of both previous Hulk portrayals to embrace this version.
My search for something to watch is on pause now. Thanks for the upload!!
one of the best cameos of stan lee drinking from the glass bottle
in one of his last videos, he thanks fans for worrying about his health, then he lifts up his hand saying 'but i am feeling a bit weird lately' and it was a hulk's hand XD
Natty's reaction is perfect for a Disney princess movies. The way she shows all sorts of emotions throughout the video is quite amazing. If I close my eyes and hear your reactions, I could picture it as some Disney movies.
9:24, Lou Ferrigno! The original Hulk! He had a cameo in HULK with Stan Lee.
Lou Ferrigno will always be my Hulk.
You should clarify that Lou Ferrigno played the Hulk on the 70s TV show...
@@johnfriday5169 Me too. I saw all of the episodes form The Original Hulk TV series on Syfy in 1999.

*ah yes....the forgotten MCU movie*
underrated gem
Nope, that would be HULK
@@dominiccrimmings6925 That's not MCU
@@dominiccrimmings6925 thats not considered in the mcu
@@PowerCookie1 Yes, I know it isn't but I have no idea why. Even Natalie there is confused as to the Liv Tyler plays etc and wondering why there is no origin story.
Personally, I think HULK is a reasonably ok movie.
Do you know why it isn't considered part of the MCU? I've read a few theories etc but I'm still in the dark.
“I want them together! I don’t like this”
I got some bad news.
the bad news is we probably have to wait another month for the next MCU movie
I love that Ty is a set-up for Samson, a super strength dude with long hair, that sadly I doubt we'll see in the MCU. I really enjoy watching your reactions to all these movies. I cannot wait for you to see Captain America: First Avenger.
I love how worried you are about the factory and all the little things, it makes me enjoy your reaction more.
Natalie: sorry, I missed the end credits.
Us: we're not mad, just disappointed.
oo, burn
Hold up...someone's got some new hardware on her ring finger!
You noticed that too huh? Yes; I spotted that bit of bling as well lol!
I reckon that's why she posted about a "life event" happening and why her videos would be delayed - I reckon her BF (now fiancee) popped the question and she could hardly spend the next few days making vids ;-)

I would skip _Incredible Hulk_ and _Iron Man 3,_ both of which are utterly forgettable and unnecessary to the rest of the series.
@@tarmaque You do realize that this video is the Incredible Hulk movie, right?
tarmaque you should never skip a bad movie in a series in my opinion. You should always be able to have an opinion on what most people consider to be a bad film cuz u might disagree. I personally liked iron man 3 cuz it shows that even superheroes can suffer from mental health issues but it did suck to get catfished for the mandarin but that’s why I’m excited for Shang Chi.
Come on theres a couple she can skip like the Thor sequels and Iron man sequels. And Captain Marvel
@@KatieGimple I stand by my statement. It's unnecessary to the rest of the MCU, and it's forgettable.
love that you talk to your audience like we'll answer you.;-) does your hubby take you to the movies. I had a friend once that used to yell out while watching suspense/action movies. lol very entertaining
I saw your SU mug and remembered I had heard you were involved with community theater in the Syracuse area. I love watching your reactions and missed these very early ones and getting caught up now. Thanks so much for sharing these..
Fun fact: a friend of mine recorded and mixed the audio for the big chains in the final battle
Nice
"That guy deserves to die." Did we forget what Gandalf said about dealing death in judgment? :)
I always took it as the reason Bruce doesn’t stay is not because he can’t control it for Betty, but they’ll never stop coming after him and she would always be in danger because of it. And Bruce loves her so much that he doesn’t want to put her through that.
RIP William Hurt, glad they kept him in the MCU. Thunderbolt Ross has always been one of the best antagonist
Yes, I waited for this one for a long time. Hulk is one of favorite movies!! Great reaction Nat 😎🍶
For the record, in the movie the villain is known as THE ABOMINATION
With Mr Blue becoming the Mastermind.
@@RedKytten You mean The Leader.
@@gojirra987 That... is very possible. Hulk has never been my go to for superhero stuff, and I mainly know his villains from "Earths Mightiest Heros". I thought he was called the Mastermind, but Leader also sounds right.
@@RedKytten Well, digging my geek-hole deeper, Mastermind is an X-Men baddie. Easy mistake, though, since basically all he can do is BE a mastermind.
@@gojirra987 Nothing wrong with being a geek. :) While comics and superheros isn't my area of expertise, I have my own areas where I could talk endlessly and with great detail. :)
Seeing your reactions has two major advantages: to get to rewatch a condensed version of a good movie and to laugh a lot with your screams... 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Keep at it, girl!!!!
"Oh, I feel for Ty Burrell now!"
Aaaaaand we're never gonna see him again.
Which is too bad, because he plays Doc Samson. And I've always liked Doc Samson.
Elizabeth literally never sees him again as soon as she sees Bruce. He becomes invisible and unhearable to her forever.
The deleted scenes on the Blu-ray showcase a lot more of Burrell's character including a moment of "closure" between him and Betty.
I enjoy your enthusiasm for everything so much and find it really contagious!
A very underrated movie. I agree about the pacing, it was spot on.
This movie was designed to be a spiritual successor to Ang Lee's Hulk (2003). They change a few details, like the cast, but if you want to see Hulks origin, you should check that out.
Natalie: Is his skin invincible to bullets
Me: you mean bulletproof XD
A common thing for heroes who fight in Harlem.
Or impervious.
"Run, cronies, run!" This girl is so witty.
FYI - in this Hulk story line they were trying to recreate the serum/circumstances used to create Captain America (super soldiers) (remember that Steve Rogers was injected with a serum and was irradiated while he was in the pod). The use of the serum with gamma radiation caused the Hulk mutation. On a side note - the use of the serum and the Tesseract (blue Infinity stone) to irradiate Johann Schmidt caused the Red Skull mutation.
Ed Norton agreed to be in the film after Universal Studios allowed him to rewrite the script. He was a fan of the 1977-82 live action Incredible Hulk TV show and wrote dramatic scenes that were reminiscent of the show. The studio felt a lot of those scenes slowed the movie down and cut most of his written scenes. After seeing the final film, Norton felt he was lied to and then boycotted all publicity for the film. That led to him being recast for The Avengers.
