We had a 2009 xf 5.0, and it was dragged raced before bought by an idiot, he tried to hide the damage by putting in Lucas oil, found out it was a blown solenoid that proceeded to get louder and go to engine knock because the chain tension was beginning to go, had to sell to a demo derby guy before it blew up in the drive way, i am a fan of jag and driven many over the years, if you hear this sound, we called it the knock of death, hopefully if you replace the solenoid in time you won't have costly engine repair in time ps Jag fixed the chain tensioner issue by 2013 but keep on a eye and ear out for the pia solenoid
Not the timing chain guides. This is just a noisy HP fuel pump!! Just spent 20 hours replaced tensioner and guides on my LR 5.0 NA motor. Dealer said it was the timing chain guides. I ordered the NEW updated tensioner and guides. Design is slightly different and allows for more tension. Install new and there was no slack at all on the chain. Start it up and while it doesn’t make the initial “slap” during start up it still ticks like this. Cams phasers were clean and I have no CEL. It’s the fuel pump/direct injection. It is NORMAL!! Pos Land Rover.
Thanks for the information. Sad to hear your sound is still coming even after changing all that expensive work with the updated tensioner / guides. You should record a video of the sound and write a post on the main North American Jaguar forums. As mentioned my whole engine was replaced due to “low engine oil pressure” approved under JLR CPO warranty. My 5.0L engine does not make this diesel like sound anymore. Such an embarrassing sound.
I think it is the Supercharger coupeler. Insider the supercharger "snout". Factory one is metal, and spring-loaded. They say this won't harm anything. It can be replaced with a new design hard plastic coupeler when you replace the supercharger fluid. Snout is aluminum so be careful not to crack anything.
I have a number of jags and my 2016 xf v6 supercharged at 34k had a similar noise . Still under warranty they replaced timing chain and tensioners . Problem solved. My wife has 2013 xf same engine with 60k and no problem. I also have a 2010 xf 5.0 no noise ar 72k. BUT my wife's XF, my v8 xf and my f-type 2014 all needed the terrible plastic coolant crossover pipes replaced
Coolant pipes yes sir, every JLR product lol. I also heard Audi RS5 had same coolant plastic pipe brittle issue. Good thing they have a low coolant sensor (which mine got faulty at 150k KM , changed whole reservoir assy.). Very interesting data you provided because I thought the timing chain / and tensioner issue was a 2012 and below engine problem. Maybe that’s the timing chain guides that I’m referring to. What oil do you use in your Jags ?
@@zakariaakarom4843 hey i did some research and guess what check this video out ruclips.net/video/HTNkH5DJHhg/видео.html i purchased this product and purchased 2 bottles of liqui moly ceratec and I purchased 5-30 penziol platinum synthetic oil so i change my oil and i used 1 and half bottle of liqui moly 3oz of the planet lubricants oil treatment drove the car for about 2 days and guess what i can hardly hear anything but just the loud fuel injector noise thats normal on our Jaguars spread this news to everyone who has the problem so there is hope finally. Hey guys can anyone please tell me what the best option is. Mine is a 2008 2.7 jaguar xf. It's knocking really loudly ... A friend of mine said it could be the bottom end bearings. However my car doesn't have smoke coming from exhaust.
2015 L405 Range Rover S/C v8 5.0 is doing this, same exact noise. Only happens on warm starts. Like if I go pump gas, turn it off, then turn it on after 5 minutes it makes this noise for 2-3 minutes then goes away. Coming from driver side, can really hear it under the driver side door / wheel well.
@FlightEng Hughes have u gotten any new news on this noise i just bought a 2012 Jaguar XF no supercharger and i have this same noise beautiful car but noise drives me crazy i had 6 technicians look at it 4 of them says its normal on these 5.0 engines because of the injectors and the other 2 technicians said they just dont know but the engine is fine after driving the car the noise still doesn't go away i would appreciate any great information you may have (THANKS)
Hey I am not sure about the noise try to read in some of these comments also my other videos some people commented. I heard these engines that are 2012 and older have a timing chain issue. You can also hear about this on the jaguar forums. My engine was replaced and the newer 5.0 engines had the timing chains fixed with stronger guides and what not . Not sure if this is the noise...but I know what you mean by annoying because the car is a beauty but makes loud noise
Mine was making that noise. The timing chain had slack. Eventually One of the tensioners gave out. The guides are made of plastic and cracked. Getting repaired right now. Just waiting on the tool to hold the engine from Turing over to get the crank bolt out
@@cruisertechgt It just reached 120k miles. If it was the timing chain wouldn't it make this sound all the time? Cause mine makes this sound only when you start it but after you drive a few blocks it always goes away.
It's The Engine Coupler a plastic Peice that Eventually breaks so it makes that Loud knocking Noise you can still drive it Won't Damage your Engine just Annoying Loud Noise
Last post spoke about plastic engine coupler... Can you please explain what part you are talking about please? I have this noise or similar on my v6 petrol. Not initially on start up but after a run. I do suspect something with the variable can timing unit. Any updates welcomed.
what engine is this? if it's the 5.0 supercharged then I had a similar issue. turned out to be supercharger bearings and they replaced that and it went away
5.0 NA engine. Noise seems to be coming again on the new engine. If it consistently keeps coming I will have to get it checked again ... the dealership service rep tried telling me it's normal its the fuel injectors...so I don't get good service around here :(
My 5.0 s/c makes quite a racket when its cold or stood around for a few days. on initial start up itcan sound like a right bag of spanners however being a big V8 once these engines get hot they expand and sound really sweet when all warmed up. I started mine the other day and let it idle for about 10 - 15 mins as it haddnt been started all week and it did sound tappy to begin with but after a few minutes and a about 1000 rpm for a moment or two it warmed up nicely and idles perfectly for about 10 minutes before I shut it off. please let me know if you find a the cause though. thanks
andrew13emma I haven't heard this noise in almost a year on the new engine. If you are feeling vibration in the steering wheel on idle - check the belt tensioner. Had this replaced and also another member said he did this to fix his noise.
+Cole Lumley Dealership couldnt figure out what it was. They tested my engine and found low oil pressure readings. Got the engine replaced under warranty and noise is gone. Heard of another guy having the same noise ...he said he replaced the belt tensioner and seemed to fix it. My noise comes back every so often but does not seem to affect performance. Still love this car though just wish it was built more reliable.
Oil change at 3000 miles oil change at 3000 miles only use high octane fuel change diffrential oil every 30000 miles only use jaguar spec oil. Change air filters every 50 this car is a thoroughbred cant treat it like a pack muel.
Had similar noise with my f type v6, by chance during a service I discovered the garage putting their stock 0w40 oil instead of the JLR certified castrol 0w20. I played hell and they changed the oil to the recommended type; to my surprise the engine went quiet, could not believe it. Not saying this is your problem, but worth checking as the engine design appears very sensitive to oil ruclips.net/video/DZKaWYISIEs/видео.html
