    I can’t wait to try this! I did counted cross stitch for years so this all makes sense to me and for the past year I’ve taken up macrame again, I did a lot in the 70’s. Just a heads up there are 2 pixel arts, I downloaded the wrong one ( darn it) but now have the correct one. The wrong one requires a subscription so now I must remember to cancel after the 7 day free trial. 😀 thanks so much for sharing this.

      💙 Yes it’s totally just like a cross stitch pattern! I love cross stitch as well…tho it’s been awhile since I’ve done one
      These types of patterns are also called “alpha patterns” as well and you can find many already created on Pinterest too (if you aren’t down to making your own). Just be careful of copyright infringement. Some creators don’t like others using their images
      And I’m sorry, I didn’t realize there was two apps named PixelArt. I downloaded mine quite a long time ago 😅

    Thank you so much for sharing your talent. I have a a couple questions regarding material and procedure. You used t-shirt yarn or the type of yarn you used here in the tutorials that I have watched. Do you always use this type of material for colors? Do you ever use the same size cord for color? I'm wondering if I can use macrame cord for color? Meaning if I used 3.5 cords to attach to dowel could I use 3.5 macrame cord for color areas? If yes, would I wrap 2 cords at a time or 1 cord at a time? How do you determine whether to wrap 1 or 2 cords at a time? I have seen it done both ways. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time.

    • @SimplyInspiredbySheena
      @SimplyInspiredbySheena  2 года назад +1

      💙 Hello Tracy 👋🏻 So….I like using t-shirt yarn, and regular yarn because it’s MUCH more inexpensive than buying dyed single strand rope. It also comes in way more colours and is easier to find…AND sometimes you can get some pretty cool textures going on with it (see my faux fur bunny wall hanging). But yes, you most definitely can use the same cotton rope as your filler cords
      Now the reason why some patterns have you tie your vertical double half hitch knots around two cords rather than one is because of what size of rope/yarn you are using. The goal is to have your VDHH knot be a compact square shape to mimic your grid pattern. If it’s off in size that’s when your image will start to distort-you get squat or elongated images.
      The rule of thumb is, your filler cords need to be twice the diameter of the working cords.
      That is why when I use t-shirt yarn I need to tie it around two filler cords, same as if I were using cotton rope. But if I’m using regular yarn it’s about half the size of the filler cord so I would then only tie my knot around one cord
      …I hope that makes sense and answers your questions 💙

    • @SimplyInspiredbySheena
      @SimplyInspiredbySheena  2 года назад

      💙 It’s really difficult to estimate how much you need as vertical double half hitch knots take up quite a lot of rope. It also depends on the creator’s tension, and the rope they are using. Because of all these variables I don’t like to give exact measurements, instead I like to think of it as a knitting or crochet pattern and state how many balls of yarn (or pounds of rope in my case) that will be needed. That way it gives plenty of room for error

    Hi how do you work out different sizes and then what to put in for the app?

    • @SimplyInspiredbySheena
      @SimplyInspiredbySheena  Год назад

      💙 Mostly trail and error. I know that with the rope I use I can comfortably fit 22 larks head knots across the top of my 12 inch (30cm) dowel. So that gives me up to 44 strands of rope in total. I can make a large detailed grid pattern using yarn as my working cords with the horizontal dimension of 44 cubes across. Or I can make a more simple pattern using rope or t-shirt yarn by tying my VDHH knots around two cords at a time, which would make the horizontal dimension on my grid pattern to be 22 cubes across…..the vertical dimension in both scenarios doesn’t matter too much because as long as my rope fits nicely on the top of the dowel my pattern can be as long as it needs to be, I generally over estimate the length when designing and then crop the bottom of my pattern where it’s ascetically pleasing

    • @SimplyInspiredbySheena
      @SimplyInspiredbySheena  2 года назад

      💙 Which method are you using? If you are using the app you are going to have to draw over top of the image to narrow down the colours. If you are using the website you really need to start off with a very good clear image. Both methods work best if you have quite a large portrait that fills the frame, anything small and detailed tends to get lost in the pixelation process. I hope that helps you, it takes a bit of playing around with it

      💙 Hey I just messaged you on Facebook but I’ll kinda repeat myself here too in case someone else might have a similar situation ☺️
      Geometric images or any images with lots of lines and shapes is more difficult for the image converter. I usually hand draw my pattern out if it’s not converting well
      Hand drawing out a pattern is really time consuming but you do get quicker after some practice and remember to save often. I’ve had the app crash on me and lost my work before 😣
      I do use my finger to hand draw it but a stylus would work too. And don’t forget that you can zoom in and zoom out to get more details

      @@felicityparrott6030 💙 4mm single strand would work and probably be easier to find…but, when choosing your yarn make sure it’s half the thickness of your rope. You want your vertical double half hitch knots to look as close to perfect squares as possible, just like the grid pattern. Otherwise your image will distort

      @@SimplyInspiredbySheena I'm sorry, I'm confused. I have autism and MS. What macramé cord should I look for if I want the first set to be 4 mm? Also, would the same length of stick still be enough?

      @@felicityparrott6030 💙 that’s okay, 4mm single strand cotton rope would work just fine. It’s not a huge difference from the 3.35mm I used so it should still fit fine on a 12 inch wooden dowel. Then you would need medium worsted weight yarn but as you tie your knots just make sure they are relatively square in shape to mimic your grid pattern. You might need to tie your knots tighter or looser to get the right shape…I hope that makes sense and helps. Good luck and happy macraming 🤗
