  • NOTICE! NOTICE! This video talks about reloads according to the rules as they were written PRIOR to the revisions made in 2022. As such, only PART of this is correct any more. In general, you should probably not watch this until I can get it updated. :/ NOTICE! NOTICE!
    -------------------------------------
    This video is linked from a post on the Precision Response Training blog that discusses how to get started in IDPA--from registration to safety procedures when attending the match, and including of course the basics of the gear and rules used in IDPA. For best information, go directly to precisionrespo...
    to read the post in its entirety, and see the videos in the correct context.
    Fourth in a sequence of videos discussing the basic information needed to get started in the shooting sport of IDPA. This one is about what types of reloads are allowed, and in what circumstances you can use them.
    Part I was about the gear needed, part II was about how scoring works in IDPA matches, and part III discussed Tactical Priority for target engagement as required in IDPA matches.

    USPSA shooter here just did my first IDPA in CO had -31 penalty points on 6 stages 😂. Still had fun.

      Speaking also as a USPSA shooter, it is sometimes hard to shift over to IDPA-thinking. That 1-second-per-point-down thing is HARSH---effectively creating a situation where every stage has a hit factor of 2. (A -1 down is effectively a C-hit, so in USPSA terms, that equatetes two points per second--a HF of 2.)
      And it doesn't matter how big or small the stage is, either, unlike in USPSA. Points down are killers!
      Glad you had fun!

    Great video. Can you comment on how to manage a malfunction, failure to fire, or a stovepipe? What happens if I eject a live unfired round? What if anything do I need to do to deal with that? Many many thanks!!

      Malfunctions are handled differently from reloads---in the case of a gun malfunction, if you drop a live round, or a magazine with live rounds, as a part of your malfunction clearance, you do NOT get penalized for that.
      So if you have a gun malfunction, do what you need to clear it, and move on without worrying about leaving rounds behind.

    Just for the information of the viewers: If you have a malfunction, you may drop a magazine on the ground with rounds in it without incurring a penalty.

    On your two reload examples by what I can see you did that identical thing what was the difference?

    • @PrecisionResponse

      I'm not sure which part of the video you are talking about, I'm afraid. Are you talking about the two different versions of tactical reload? In that case, the difference is merely how you handle retaining and stowing the original magazine. (Pick up the new mag first, or stow the old one first---that's the choice to make.)
      If instead you meant the difference between the two reload types---in an emergency reload, you let the old magazine fall, and leave it behind, while in a tactical reload, you retain the old magazine (normally in a pocket or something similar).

    SSP , I was under the impression I can carry 15 round mags at local matches ?

    • @PrecisionResponse
      @PrecisionResponse  Год назад +3

      Yes, you can. The later-2022 revision of the rules changed the capacity of SSP and CCP, among other rule items.
      [sigh] I need to update Parts I and IV of my "Intro to IDPA" videos. I just haven't had time yet. But yes, 15+1!

      @@PrecisionResponse no problem at all , still a great video, I have been watching them over and over. I am shooting the Florida IDPA state match this Friday, it has helped. Thank you

    As of 2023 IDPA has the Emergency Reload with one in the chamber has changed to being allowed? This may need an update.

    • @PrecisionResponse
      @PrecisionResponse  Год назад +3

      Actually, that happened in the 2022 update, didn't it?
      Yes, this needs an update. (I mentioned that somewhere else downthread, but I realize that not everyone wants to wade through all the comments. :) )
      Our of the set of "Intro to IDPA" videos, there are three or four of them that need to be updated. Unfortunately. I just haven't had time to get it done yet. :/

      Agreed. If you’re in a gun fight you’re not going to be counting rounds.
