  • I've watched a lot of people go through the "Make Ready" procedures at various USPSA, IDPA, Steel Challenge, and Multigun matches. And merely watching just that much will tell me if the competitor is competent at gun-handling, and has the gun safety rules ingrained.
Experienced USPSA ROs and IDPA SOs know how that goes.
So---I thought I'd do a quick video talking about some things you might think about when deciding how you are going to do the administrative gun-handling necessary to Make Ready (and after the stage, Unload and Show Clear). Seriously, in just that small amount of time there are a LOT of things you need to do competently and safely. Please make sure you are doing them right!

It doesn't take long working matches to see those things, does it?
Mostly, I just wish people would stop trying to use the muzzle of the gun as a pointer to find the holster, and I REALLY wish they would stop slamming the gun into the holster.
Everything else just irks me due to poor (but not illegal) gun-handling. But those two things are going to get someone hurt sometime.

@@PrecisionResponse I call it "the crowbar", usually because their fat roll covers part of the holster mouth. Yes, I too think there's a direct correlation between gun handling and proficiency.
