The r2000db is replacing a 5.1 home theatre in a box, and these Edifiers have such sound stage that are better then the Samsung 5.1 system. the R2000DB really thumps with the bass when the dial is turned up to the point I don't miss a subwoofer. They have rich, crystal clear sound that I haven't heard in a long time. I don't regret buying any of these and they are fantastic. You cannot go wrong with Edifier.
Hi, I'd like to hear your opinion on my concern. Do you think the R2000db can replace a cheap-mid level home theater system (let's say for the same price)?

I very much appreciate these videos- they are very helpful. I would have liked to hear a track with vocals though. The sound quality and clarity of the vocals is one of the most important factors influencing my decision as to which speaker to purchase.
Thanks so much for this. So few clips of speakers playing decent instrumental music to help judge the quality of speakers. Instead just bass heavy techno and rap.
Wow, quite a big difference with the 2000 coming out on top by a long shot. 1700 is still really good for such a low price though, amazing how affordable quality speakers are nowadays.

What you get for more money (R2000DB): - Larger tweeter and mid-range driver - Alloy mid-range driver instead of paper - Ability to switch them on and off from the remote - More power (almost double the watts) - Design (although I'm not a fan of glossy things that can scratch) The R1700DB are not available in my country at the moment but I'll get R2000DB and decide if they're worth it *Update* Got the R2000DB. They look nice. The sound on the other hand seems a bit harsh and the bass boomy (even in classic mode). I don't know how much the bass will improve but the harshness could be because they need breaking in. The bass reflex port is located on the back which is a bit inconvenient since I have them on a desk. May get the R1700BT once they become available.
Thanks for the follow up! If You find R2000DB harsh than R1700BT is even harsher in default settings. Check the controls on the back of R2000DB if treble is not boosted. My pair of R2000DB came completely fresh as well and I found them rather dull sounding out of the box...
David Lorenz get a 3.5 splitter and get a stereo to mono and use that to connect to a sub . Connect edifier to the available 3.5 done , that's what I use
Great video. However could I suggest you have a piece of music to demo vocals. Especially female as it would give a little idea of the speakers mid tonal range.
Well to my ear the R1700BT sounds like flat and neutral than R2000DB. R2000DB looks like a darker speaker but with fuller sound and has more resonance. Do not know if I use the correct words here lol. Thanks for the comparison. Will purchase a pair of R1700BT in the next couple of weeks.
I'm with you, it depends on the ears that are hearing. I like so much more the flat neutral sound for the R1700BT, for a desktop is best ideal maybe complemented with a subwoofer.
@@carlosfedericolopezspindol3103 Ha ha. I did purchased Edifier R1700BT and a Sennheiser HD650. To my ears now HD650 blows away R1700BT. I found out that these speakers are a little harsh, bright so I turned the high volume knot down a bit. Also these speakers has soundstage but it lacks a soul, deep, full sound. It's okey for a budget 2.0 desktop speakers for my computer.
@@midorihibiki I agree that the treble of headphones can be better. So is the bass of headphones stronger than this 4-inch speaker? Or is it just an improvement in bass quality, not stronger?
@@张嘉炜 Here is my experience. The bass on these Edifier models does have strong bass. But the texture of the bass, or it can not go lower deeper. The bass on my HD650 has more texture, can boomer if the record or the amp drive it. If you want more quality bass, look for the higher Edifier models. Some high end headphones can produce strong bass as and as quality as big speakers for example like Abyss 1266-Audezee LCD-4 or Sony MDR-Z1r.
I have both and i can say that the r2000db is definitely not worth the price jump. 1700bt is a much better deal. The sound is identical. Only reason to get r2000db is if you have a big room.
For the price difference I might take the 1700. The 2000 might be a little too boomy in the lower mid-range. But the 2000 definitely more full sounding. Sounds the same Tweeter is used. The 1700 sounds a shade too bright but the 2000 sounds a shade too boomy and muffled.
I suspect that the bass on the 2000 were negatively impacted by being too close to the wall. They are back ported which requires some space between the wall and the speaker, whereas the 1700 is front ported so can better handle being up against a wall.
R2000DB sounds much better in real life. I have 3 pair of Edifier 1700bt 1800III and R2000DB. So i can tall u - take R2000DB! yes R1x00 best smal speakers at the market, but if u can spend 30-40$more and size of R2000DB good for you. Definitely buy R2000DB!
Violins - R1700; Hard Rock - R2k sounds straining in low end; Jazz - R1700 more balance. Has to be a function of that smaller bass driver; yep, R2k sounds boxy and loose, but lower bass notes.
The r1700 are reproducing detailed sound with more clarity while r2000 are relaxing and in my opinion better for TV and long term listening. Great video! Cheers!
I just gotten the R2000DB for 3 weeks now for near field use. For the first few days i was kinda disappointed as the low end were to boomy and kinda bleeds into the mids. After a few days I started using the remote and realise there's two eq mode "Dynamic" and "Classic". I hit the classic eq and wow now I was loving it. The bass did not bleed into the mids and it didn't sound boomy. It felt more natural. I would suggest using it in Classic EQ mode if using for nearfield and use dynamic if the speakers are far or using for tv setup. The highs is just a lil bright for me to be honest but I read one user was messing with an EQ in the 100Hz to 1kHz range and I tried it myself using EqualizerAPO with just a lil 3 db bump in that range and boy it sounded perfect. For the price i've gotten these I think i have under paid for these.
I bought the 1700's (one model down) a couple of weeks ago and am very happy with them. Actually thinking now about returning them and upgrading to the r2000 but not sure if the extra $100 is worth the improve or not. Certainly cannot tell from this utube posting at all.
@@larrysynak Before I had my R2000DB. I have actually managed to audition the R1280DB R1850DB and the R2000DB. R1850DB being similar close to R1700BT I can tell you that the only noticeble difference is the low end presence being and a tad on the bright side for me for the R2000DB. But for my case the pricing difference between the two was $20 as i had it on a time limited sale for $135usd. But $100 difference I would wouldn't recommend upgrading. Prolly go with amp and passive speaker setup instead.
@@blammm88 Thanks for the quick reply. I'm running the 1700's through a Audioengine d1 dac at this very moment and of course the sound is very impressive. So good that I had wondered how much better the 2000's would be. With $325 invested now not sure if that extra $100 for the 2000's was going to be worth pulling the trigger on but you seemed to help me make the decision to the negative. I think the 1700 has adequate bass and outstanding mid range vocals. My hope was that the 2000's might provide even better mids and much cleaner cymbals at the high end as well as a bit more "presence"/separation of instruments. Lar.
@Larrysynak there will be no difference in midrange and treble quality between R1700 and R2000. The only difference is the bass, and even here it is nothing groundbreaking. Stick with R1700 and save up for S2000Pro ;)
@@@DSAUDIOreview I appreciate the advice. I likely will not spend the extra $100 for what may be a minimal gain in quality from the r2000 then. My 1700's put a real smile on my face now and I'm wondering how to utilize their potential to the fullest. A bit off topic but would you suggest an upgrade in the rca cables beyond the supplied? Or would cables not be a factor at this lower end of price spectrum. Thank you in advance for all of your help.
conclusion r2000db vs 1700bt vs 1280bt r2000db vs 1700bt from what i heard, but very subjective, maybe because my headphone and connection.. everybody says that r1700bt more clear, maybe because it has more high sound, but for me, sounds very thin. r2000db feels solid and weight, fuller, thicker and deeper dimension. for r1280bt, we know that it has more high than r1700bt, maybe thats why it sounds more open than r2000db, but still... very thin and narrow. for me, r2000db is clearly the winner.
i just bought the EDIFIER R2000DB i highly recommend this speaker its all around speaker to music, games, editing it does a great job. Im a Bose fan and Do have one, but for the price highly recommend this speakers for tight budget and the Good thing is you can tweak presets to give kicks into base or treble for clarity of voice. and your know the quality its there. worth to buy.
wow...Agree with your comment, $100 price different but sound almost similar. Thinking to get R1700BT, but Edifier just email me yesterday about two more weeks their new Edifier S880 will arrive. Making me excited on looking their new product but the other side is more unsure & confuse to get which one better. Haha...
I really love the sound of R1700BT, as per demos. IMO they sound better than R1800BT as well. One thing though, which is quite crucial to me - R1700BT does not have "standby" button on the remote control.
@@tumachoff I see, thankfully it got an upgrade. I thought it was worth mention this because I nearly discard the R1700BT after reading your comment, it's crutial to me too. Mine arriving on Monday, can't wait!
Great work on these videos. I was considering both of these but they would be going in a nook where my tv sits would it be better to have the forward port or rear port. What will happen to the rear ports r2000db in that location?
After some reviews here and elsewhere, I choosed R2000Db as a present recently and almost exceeded my expectations. Certainly recommended. If you dont want to spend much, you get a multimedia set with actually good sound that can fill the room. My friend thanked for saving him research and money as he is FULLY satisfied! :) Fun to listen sound. A bit too bassy, but that serves nice for movies & games. They reach low and sound bigger. If you lower the bass a bit, become enjoyable for long sessions music listening as well. @Digital Stereophony Do you think that R1700 can serve as entry small studio monitors, -maybe by lowering a bit upper&low-, or they are too "coloured" towards multimedia use??
@@DSAUDIOreview Thanks! I came up with R2000 instead of JBL 104 and Lunas and dont regret it. Now I had AV42's as secondary monitor but sold them as they sounded too boomy, and looking for an upgrade. I was going for Eris 4.5 but when listened from close I found them a bit forward and cold to my taste. I want a bit warmer sound character. R2000DB has plenty of bass for a non 2.1 system. First late night with them. I have a small apartment < 900 sqft. I had to turn the bass all the way down 2 clicks from the bottom. Volume 15 on win10 sound control. Stock powerup volume on the R2000db. Meaning when you turn the R2000DB on, it comes on a pre-defined volume probably 50%.
Hi, Great video as usual for you, I am looking for loudness as I attach these speakers to my TV also to watch movies but my main purpose is listening to music. What is the best choice R2000db or R1700BT?
Does the Edifier R2000DB sound more pleasant and less tiring? I bought edifier R1700BT and I have been using it for 3 days (connected by cable), and I am not feeling well with the sound of it, any music in any quality sounds bright and a little irritating, after an hour I feel tired, I tried to call directly on the pc and also with external dac, i didn't feel it before with my bad speakers, despite the limited sound.
Im looking to get the 1700 just because the price and because i will only be using them hooked to a tv in a small bedroom for music, games, and movies. Will they have that wow factor? I currently have a 5.1 cheap logitech setup. Will these have decent bass without a subwoofer for movies. A subwoofer would be out of the question due to trying to be budget as possible and the room connected next to me that can hear everything. How is the stereo separation and soundstage imaging? Are the highs detailed and can they be fatiuging at close listening levels? Also how do they perform at very low and at max volume?
For a speaker of this size and price R1700BT are great for multimedia. They have clear speacious sound with solid bass - not room shaking though, for that You def need a subwoofer. It sounds good both on low and higher lecels thanks to DSP and it will blow Your old setup out of the water
Which one would be better for playing music/movies over Bluetooth: Edifier R2000DB or Wavemaster Two BT (Neo)? I saw that Wavemaster has AptX Codec, which Edifier is missing. Sadly I couldn't find a comparison between those two, maybe someone owned them booth?
Edifier Studio R2000DB is now about 150€ in my country i will get them and so should you too.! If you have bigger TV then it will be superb(for music videos). They give you more concert feeling if lessening music.

I'm going to use them to replace my desktop speakers so I'll be sitting very close to them on the table less than half a metre away. For this set up what would be the best?
I will compare R2000DB with many more speakers soon. Klipsch, Audioengine, Yamaha, JBL, Presonus, KRK and more will be starring. I just need to get back home and record it.
Thank you very much for the review and comparison. I need acoustics for PC. I'm fond of streaming, so you'll soon need an external sound card, as well as a microphone. Has stopped the choice due to your tests on R1700BT. I'll most likely choose the Focusrite Scarlett Solo, then a microphone with headphones. Can you give your recommendations on the sound card? Once again Thank you very much, you helped me a lot with the choice of acoustics! I am from Belarus.
I have owned both Lexicon Alpha and Behringer UMC22, and both are great devices for much less than Focusrite, so get either of them instead of Focusrite IMO. I do not know much about microphones, so I will hold my opinion here...
if you really love clear and dont care about bass then ya, but Edifier Studio R2000DB have much more power. Some extra of these may needed in some places.
The R2000DB being more laid back and the comparison was done in classical mode. Wondering if changing the R2000DB to dynamic mode would sound more lively like the R1700BT.
You do not have to go to dynamic mode to make it sound more lively as it is enough to boost the treble a bit using tone controls, making it sound very similar to R1700BT in upper ranges. In dynamic mode the bass of R2000DB is overrepresented and a bit boomy.
Just got this several days ago. Tried all the inputs but the Optical does not produce Audio of Dolby Digital AC3, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS. My PC can decode the first 2 and sound can come out from the Line In 3.5mm Jack but nothing from Digital In.

Anyone have a recommendation on which would be better connected to a Record player? Have mostly rock vinyls but i listen to everything. Thanks in advance!!! Also is the bluetooth connection pretty much the same on both models?
+matias1z it certainly does not feeling as though R2000DB is twice as powerful. The difference is only audible on high levels where R2000DB has more authorithy and control, while R1700BT starts to sound a bit strained and the bass begins to loose some punch and depth. On normal levels there is very little to it
Thanks so much Sam for the reply. I like both. peronally I think the R!170BT have a overall better sound meaning much better transitions between Low, Mids and Highs more even overall and I feel more pleasent listenening experience. I agree with what you said Sam, they are indeed very different and I do think the extra loudiness and bass could lead someone to feel they are better, but to a trained ear louder is not better. They are both excellent speakers as you say Sam. Thanks again for the demo and the reply. Cheers T

I would like to upgrade to R2000DB, I have no space and these would be the most I can put. The big doubt is that the 1700s have the reflex in the front while the 2000s in the rear, the speakers are positioned at the corners of the room, could it create problems with sound and rumble? I wouldn't want to get lost in sound rendering.

The bass port on the R2000DB is on the back of the speaker as opposed to the front facing bass port on the R1700BT. Those speakers are too close to the wall. The muddiness you are hearing is the bass being muddied by poor placement with the R2000DB. I have neither speakers, but I'd be willing to bet that the R2000DB would sound great on stands, 1 and 1/2 to 3 feet away from the wall.
TinyApocalypse did you buy these and find your statement to be true? I just got 1700 and love them esp in mid and high clarity. This video makes me think the 2000 lose that clarity but maybe it’s placement like you said.
Id take the 1700 > 2000. You can dial out some of that crisp high end on the 1700 and get the same mid and bass as you can from the 2000. And you can'not dial in that crisp high end on the 2000 because it doesn't have the capability to produce it to begin with.
Actually that's false. I have both sets and the 1700 doesn't compare in mid or low to the 2000. Tweak the lows down and you'll have fantastic highs on the r2000db. They have the same tweeter, but the r2000db has better crossover and a bigger driver for better mids and low end bass that the 1700 just cannot compete or fill the room like the 2000 can.

I’ve ordered 1280DBs
What you get for more money (R2000DB):
- Larger tweeter and mid-range driver
- Alloy mid-range driver instead of paper
- Ability to switch them on and off from the remote
- More power (almost double the watts)
- Design (although I'm not a fan of glossy things that can scratch)
The R1700DB are not available in my country at the moment but I'll get R2000DB and decide if they're worth it
*Update*
Got the R2000DB.
Digital Stereophony ya agree my r1700bt is set to zero bass and mid treable . I am using my sub for bass
How would you go about using a sub with R1700BTs?
David Lorenz get a 3.5 splitter and get a stereo to mono and use that to connect to a sub . Connect edifier to the available 3.5 done , that's what I use
Andrei Agulescu, Did the bass improve after breaking in? And did you get R1700BT? Let me know, I'm deciding which one to buy. Thanks.
I have an offer for r1700 and r2000db at almost same price . Little confused which one to take. Or should I straight go for s1000db?
I don't know which one is better.
But I do believe, you get what you pay for.
That is how everything going.
R2000DB is dark in terms of sounds while R1700BT is bright with a soft balance of bass which is i really like👌🏽
Great video.
Will purchase a pair of R1700BT in the next couple of weeks.
no its absolutely reverse. R2000DB - natural and 1700(1800-1850) is to much HiFreq.
Only reason to get r2000db is if you have a big room.
jika ruangan saya 3x4meter kirakira tipe mana yang pass buat ruangan saya terimakasih 🙏
Depends if u can get a good deal. I got it on sale and it only costs $30 usd more lol. For that price, 2000 all the way.
Edifier R2000DB звучание понравилось больше. Edifier R2000DB a sound is pleasant more
Thank you for this video! Which of these will do a better job as a studio monitor in your opinion?
For the price difference I might take the 1700. The 2000 might be a little too boomy in the lower mid-range. But the 2000 definitely more full sounding. Sounds the same Tweeter is used. The 1700 sounds a shade too bright but the 2000 sounds a shade too boomy and muffled.
I suspect that the bass on the 2000 were negatively impacted by being too close to the wall. They are back ported which requires some space between the wall and the speaker, whereas the 1700 is front ported so can better handle being up against a wall.
@@karl5043 Do you recommend getting the 2000 over the 1700?
I have been watching your videos all night, just to find the best speaker for myself

Can you make a comparison between Edifier R2000BT and F&D R60BT?
Thank you. I ordered one. Your comment seemed to be the deciding factor for me.
Violins - R1700; Hard Rock - R2k sounds straining in low end; Jazz - R1700 more balance. Has to be a function of that smaller bass driver; yep, R2k sounds boxy and loose, but lower bass notes.
agree, R1700BT sound more open. maybe because r2000db is meant to be listened at more far distance? since it is bigger
R1700bt are amazing! R2000db is too big than sound that speaker can be pump! Difference is in low volume!
Thank you in advance for all of your help.
conclusion r2000db vs 1700bt vs 1280bt
r2000db vs 1700bt
from what i heard, but very subjective, maybe because my headphone and connection..
everybody says that r1700bt more clear, maybe because it has more high sound, but for me, sounds very thin. r2000db feels solid and weight, fuller, thicker and deeper dimension.
for r1280bt, we know that it has more high than r1700bt, maybe thats why it sounds more open than r2000db, but still... very thin and narrow.
for me, r2000db is clearly the winner.
i just bought the EDIFIER R2000DB i highly recommend this speaker its all around speaker to music, games, editing it does a great job. Im a Bose fan and Do have one, but for the price highly recommend this speakers for tight budget and the Good thing is you can tweak presets to give kicks into base or treble for clarity of voice. and your know the quality its there. worth to buy.
Bose??? Why??? :-)
wow...Agree with your comment, $100 price different but sound almost similar. Thinking to get R1700BT, but Edifier just email me yesterday about two more weeks their new Edifier S880 will arrive. I really love the sound of R1700BT, as per demos. IMO they sound better than R1800BT as well. One thing though, which is quite crucial to me - R1700BT does not have "standby" button on the remote control.

Fun to listen sound.

Thank you very much for the review and comparison. I need acoustics for PC. I'm fond of streaming, so you'll soon need an external sound card, as well as a microphone.
Behringer UMC22 has a phantom power, I'll consider this option! Thank you for responding, when the R1700DB appears, I will share my impressions!

if you really love clear and dont care about bass then ya, but Edifier Studio R2000DB have much more power.

Can you please suggest how will be 1700BT for Netflix movies & series, and music. It will be used with MacBook Air M1. Room size 14*14 feet
Also if you know about 1700BTS
Thank you!
why do i like R1700 better! i dont know and i ended up getting the R1700!
Because it sounds better on the music that was chosen here... Heavy Bass music probably the 2000 would shine more but the 1700 just has a better tweeter or tuned better.
@@pedecia lol r1700 is a speaker. the r200db is a studio monitor. if response rate wise and rms r1700bt is way down low. yes if tweeter is your basis yes its quite good but does r1700 can turn to super high volume?
hi,
thanks for all reviews, very good work!
please can anyone tel me if this kind of speaker is good for stereo home cinema?
small room, no need loud sound
thanks
seek for a silly advice, i got an old edifier c3, worth to replace to r2000?
yes...
Great videos, man! All that people need to choose speakers)
i use my R2000DB only to listen to music, and is really a bummer that every time i put on standby ou switch inputs the speakers goes back to Dynamic mode, which mode(Classic vs Dynamic) do you prefer to listen to music? any one knows a workaround for this?
Yes, it is a pity and I do not think there is a way around it. I also like Classic mode much more
@@DSAUDIOreview apakah pada R1700bt juga punya dua mode? salam satu hobi dari indonesia 🙏
should i upgrade BT1700 to R2000DB?
Go directly to S1000MKII for true improvement
What is DAC suitable for R1700BT speakers?
I'm running a brand new Audioengine D1 with my brand new 1700bt set. The sound is fantastic.
in my experience changing dac is barely audible,, investi
ng dac price into better drivers seems the way to go
R1280T vs R1700bt vs R1850db ..Which one is suitable for listening to popular music, vocal music and piano?
R1700BT and R1850DB sound almost the same, both are better than R1280T for that. R1700BT is best bang for your buck
@@DSAUDIOreview wow..so fast reply, Thank you very much .
Can this speaker pair with edifier t5 subwoofer
Hello can you connect a sub on them?
your only option would be to drive them with a preamp that does, but then the sub wouldn’t work if you connect to them via Bluetooth
Does the optical input in the R2000DB make a difference?
Nope. It is there to give you a connectivity option, not to improve the sound quality over analog input
During the sound demo, both speakers treble and bass set to 0?
Always
the last track Edifier R1700BT i like more =Р
clarity
The have the same sound profile
Not sure I see much value in comparing sound quality when listening with the speakers I intend to replace.
love this channel!
the 1700 is so bright
The R2000DB sound muddier to me
The bass port on the R2000DB is on the back of the speaker as opposed to the front facing bass port on the R1700BT.
Потому что микрофон находится ниже уровня ВЧ динамиков, учитывая наклон. У 1700х твиттеры как раз направлены в микрофон, а у 2000х - они выше.
Please compare edi r2000db with mission lx2..
anyone has a recommendation for 2.0 + subwoofer for desktop use at low volumunder $300 ? thanks
Wharfedake diamond sw150 + edifier r1850db
What a awesome comparison
Any link for the stand you use for your speaker? :)

@@DSAUDIOreview thank you! Now i know the name of the item!
@@miss_drama Do u think its worth the money (100 bucks in my country)? im just an amateur all genre music listener
@@octavioferreyra4162 absolutely 💯
@@miss_drama how you thinking, for open space (on backyard) or terrace R2000DB will good or not?
Can you compare R2000DB vs S1000DB ? Thanks
I will record it this week. You can expect upload later this month.
Hi guys is it worth it to get the S1000DB, if the price is about twice of R2000DB.
S1000DB has titanium tweeters, aluminium drivers for mid/low range & Aptx bluetooth, these are major improvement over R2000DB.
