At the time of this comment, there's a 1700BT(S) which is a new version of the 1700BT, it costs around the same, fixes the muddy bass issue, comes with Bluetooth 5.0 and aptX and has a sub-out channel in case you want to make a 2.1 System. Besides that, and the Remote being higher quality on the S version, they're the same build wise. Still no optical in or coax. Still attached power cable. I would get the MR4's if you want a Studio Monitor for mixing/mastering, they have less bass but also the most comprehensive sound out of the 3. They also have a "Music Mode" you can switch to, which will give them a V shape EQ or DSP? idk... Which makes music more pleasant for some people. That's about it. If you do have the opportunity, pick up the SwanD100's for around 200$ instead, they basically give you the best of both worlds, Clarity, Bass, Volume, Design, Bluetooth, Optical, Coax, RCA. Sound like 1000$ Speakers. But yeah they're hard to come by.
The 1280DB's sound WAY thinner in your video than every other video I've seen. Something was off in your recording. The 1280 seemed to have similar bass but more laid-back treble and a more coherent sound in other videos. Maybe because It's a video mic designed to be connected to a camera.
Very good comparison. I am going for 1280db . Coz it costs little less then 1700 in my country and also because of additional coxial and optical input which might come in handy to connect to the TV.
TBH when you check other comparison it's looks like that there is a problem with the R1280's here, the differences between the two shouldn't be this huge in bass.
I own both. I actually like the 1280 more. It has bass control and you can crank up the bass if you want more bass. The important thing with speakers is to be able to hear everything and he actually touched on this in that the 1700 bass muddles some of the instrument sounds because its overpowering. I end up decreasing the bass on my 1700,., I think the 1280 is better for clarity.
It's because the mic placement. On the 1700 the bass port blows directly into the mic, while on the 1280 it's higher. Also the orientation on the 1700 is slanted, so most of the sound, especially the mids and treble fly over the mic, and it just pics up more of the room sound. Mics work differently than the human ear, so the differences are much more noticeable. Unless it's a really good mic, and the placement takes into account factors like speaker placement and orientation. Overall pretty bad testing methodology here
As someone who doesn't like bass and prefers something more crisp, the DB seem to be the better choice. Both are nearly the same price in my area, so it really comes down to sound preference. Sadly, after more research, it seems these speakers can't actually natively mix different sound inputs, so they're not useful for my needs (that is, a two PC setup where I want both to have sound at the same time).
Thanks for the review. Am wondering, if the 1700 were to tune down the treble and bass settings, would the different instrument sounds still be muddled up? The difference in audio depth between the two is too large to consider the R1280DB, for general usage from what I can tell

Yes, The 1280DBS is the better speaker if you prefer neutral sound with no over emphasis towards a particular frequency. It's the best budget audiophile speakers for a balanced sound, well worth the price range, especially if you using to connect to a turntable for Vinyl listening...
I guess I made the right choice buying the edifier r1700bt

Sta predlažete da kupim R1700 ili R128
I don't think these sound test work over youtube
They do, you get an idea of direct comparison, obviously you cannot judge the speakers on their sound tonality by themselves through youtube but if you just want a reference point to compare different models then yes. RUclips is sufficient.
Kuya tanong lang, sorry di kasi ako gaanong tech savy. Plano ko po kasi bumili ng XboX Series X with VG27AQL1A, a 1440p Monitor, pano ko po iconnect tong R1700BT para lumabas sound ng games ko from Series X? Salamat po
I believe bluetooth is the way- may bluetooth series x and may bluetooth receiver din yung 1700bt so it should work
Where did you get yours?
Shopee/Lazada
your r1280db seems like its being played with the bass volume 0-50% I've seen other reviews of r1280db that has more bassy feel but of course r1700 can provide both clarity and bass than r1280db. good review but i dunno why it seems like this is not an honest review for these both great speakers
I feel something is strange here. All other video test showed a difference but not that different. Here the 1280 seems tobe totally washed out compared to the 1700 and tbh I don't belive in it. Are you sure that all the tuning where the same. There is something wrong here.
I'm getting these to blast some music in my future office space, will they do the trick?
Depends on the real estate, but if it's around 30 sq.m., you're good
ohhh shittttt,,,, i bought my 1280 dbs and its on its way by now and then i watch this vid and i regret not buying the R1700BT instead.. they are literally 10$ apart for the price. but my vision is to partner my R1280dbs to a T5 subwoofer , i hope its worth it huhuhuh

Wonder how is the speech performance..I am thinking of connecting it to my TV@@GogoMama-w4t
As enjoy listening to music i will go with R1700BT but now there is a new one R1700BTS 😞😞
This reminds my Logitech Z5500, the bass is so strong..
r1280dbs is best for me + t5 subwoofer =
What's the bass level on these tests sir?
Middle (25/50) on both
Edifier 2.1ch sub on the top oh. 😁
I almost bought the R1700BT and then I found out you cannot disable bluetooth. Anyone in your building can connect to your speakers anytime (password is just 0000) and play whatever they want in your home. So if you're in a city, that's a deal breaker. It was for me anyway. The R1700BTs solved this issue, but in my country it's around $60 more expensive..so I went with the Presonus 3.5 eventually.
wrong , they can play from bt only if u select bt from the remote control
You can only connect if you hold down the Power button to enter pairing mode. If you leave it on Line-in, Bluetooth also won't start playing randomly.
R1700bt have dsp chip kaya clean ang sound unlike 1280db none.
Would the R1700 sound good if I connect them to a hi-fi CD player?
1700BT i choice
No doubt, R1700BT is the WINNER, of cause more money.

too small... you should get Edifier S1000MKII
Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 for free with no restrictions on playtime.😂😂😂😂
I’m sooo glad I watched, I was about to buy the more expensive ones but damn they’re not sounding so good
Something is wrong here. The 1280 speakers sound terrible compared to every other video that compares these to the 1700 speakers. Sorry but this video just won't help me.
The 1280 are out of phase !!!
Why didn't you buy the Bts version??
It's always out of stock :(
@@hungrychad I was able to buy the Bts version and adding a dedicated sub to the mix has greatly improved the distortion.
1700bt Wins here
it is wrong compare R1700bt with r1280db. I have both. R1700bt 2 times beter. also design.
1700 +twiter titan ,ok
Nice, thank you good sir 🗿
I think you may need to put both speakers on stands or on a foam. your table is too "boomy"
Will consider that if I ever have another speaker review vid! Thanks
Summary: Bass heads get the 1700
Everyone else get the 1280 :)
