I used to have a 3-gaited Saddlebred mare. What I like about the show horses is they look like they're HAVING FUN showing off.

I don’t know much about this breed, so correct if anything I say it’s wrong. I feel like these horses having their heads so high only inverts their spines and keeps them from using their hind end correctly. They have very developed, almost too developed muscles on the inside on their neck because of this. I understand this is signature for this breed, but it seems so counter productive

    • @EquiEsti6194

You’re incorrect. This is how you collect a saddlebred. This is the correct contact for them; as their balance and center of gravity is much different than say a warmblood or quarter horse.

Avery = Observe their expressions and the un-peaceful look --- almost painful look in their eyes.
The tails are sometimes 'doctored' .... so it's carried so artificially high ( I've been told by vets that sometimes an operation is done to break those bones) and it's said they make the 'collection' and action in their legs so animated and abnormal, by putting a hot medication (?) on the hoof & leg that causes pain when they touch the ground. I'm praying this is outlawed. I used to so want to
have a horse like that, with such fun gaits = but I would not allow some or anyone hurt my horse !
Hope you care for your horse very much and enjoy their well being. =D They are wonderful !

@@carolmartin2503 uhhhh you’re thinking of Tennessee walkers. Saddlebreds don’t have hot paste that makes them step higher. their gaits are NATURAL. look up videos of foals and observe the same movements their parents make without even being trained at all or alive for more than a few days. Please educate yourself before spreading incorrect information. I show top level saddle seat saddlebreds and seriously they’re treated really well. The look in their eyes is excitement and love for what they do. Trust me when I say a horse knows when it’s show time and they get allllll excited and know what to do.

Sometimes when I’m doing a show it’s kind of hard to hear with all the trainers yelling at their riders instructing them.

If you are interested you could compare your horses/riders with the Icelandic horses from Europe:
F 1 Five Gait A-Final, World Championship Icelandic Horses 2013. Sometimes they go "Rennpass" - very fast pace/amble ?/I don't think that there is a time accelerator/quick motion-apparatus), and sometimes they go "Tölt" /running walk with very long rains.

Audrey, yes, 3 year olds. It's called a Futurity class. The winning horse and rider get a big fund to help the horse and rider further their show ring career :) not as bad as it seems - most Futurity stakes are much shorter than normal classes. Normals are usually under ten minutes, these classes are usually a bit shorter for the horses in them.
