    I'm glad you mentioned Dillets posing. People bang on about him being an uncrowned Mr Olympia but his backdouble bicep was dreadful and he posed like a crack addict on a comedown.

      Well, from a certain point of view, bodybuilding is much more about creating a certain type of body, than posing. So i think a list with great bodies should include him, because (as other bodybuilders have said), he could just stand there and beat them all without poses.

    After Sergio retired his posing actually became much better, as he was doing a lot of guest posing. I saw him guest pose at a local contest around the mid 80s and he did an excellent job of showcasing his physique. Had he been able to pose like that during his competitive years he may have won one or two more Mr Olympia titles.

  • @goldenera4ever

    IMO the particular pic of Sergio hitting HIS pose, the victory pose, is the greatest bodybuilding photo ever. NO ONE will ever pull off this pose like Sergio and the photo was taken after he tore his left tricep. Maybe its just the angle, but I think he looks better here than at the '72 Olympia.

      No one looked better then Arnold 75. Tht pumping iron physique cannot and has not been beaten.
      Lee Haney came close but Arnold just symmetrically perfect. Not a flaw nor a part too big or small. T ratio was on point.

      Do you know why t Mona Lisa is regarded as a masterpiece. Or Michael Angelo's David a work of art. The Sydney Opera House, Sistine Chapel, Chopins piano concertos, Mozart, Beethoven...to name a few...
      Because those tht know anything about achieving something of greatness, sense of beauty tht sets a timeless... standard of achievement, on genre, artwork, composition, architecture, engineering etc ... bodybuilder...to say t least...
      Tht we all could aspire to in accomplishments, Try and surpass but mostly just to be on Par with??
      Then your low IQ (God forbid you have a high one; tht would be dangerous to everyone around you; Thnk you...I'm allowed my say etc)
      May glimmer why t fascination wth Arnold.
      Because Arnold's body was so aesthetically better then anyone before his time and any one after...COULD NOT have a BETTER BODY but just as visually appealing or in golfing terms on par.
      Never Better?! Why?
      Because from now till t end of time, man simply could not build a BETTER looking Body. From any angle you look it's aesthetically, symmetrically perfect!
      I mean how much better can you get then PERFECT?! Right?
      PI'm not even a poof but I tell you, cannot stop looking at his 75 physique. Its On point!

  • @Pulsonar
    @Pulsonar Год назад +1

    Back in the early 80s, when i started out in Bodybuilding I thought the whole point of bodybuilding was the aesthetic ideal. I never understood the mass monster ideal that came after Lee Haney and the massive dosage of steroids and other exotic shit that these guys took. I was disappointed and disillusioned, but glad to move on out of the bodybuilding world in the 90s as things changed.

    • @dumbcat

      the mass monsters who started popping up in the 1990's ruined bodybuilding

    • @Pulsonar
      @Pulsonar Месяц назад +1

      @@dumbcat when Kevin Levrone stepped into the scene. It was a question of who had the optimum drugs regime that their muscles responded to. You see him as a natural he looks barely above a regular Joe. Then he does his juice regime and it’s like a magic switch.
      He was so good at that it was like seasonal work that he did 4 months at a time. Playing dice with his organs, health, and well being just to put his superman suit of muscles on for a few months. Then he goes and loses 40lbs of steroid muscle to do some other work as a musician etc… for the rest of the year. It’s bollocks isn’t it?
      Only genetic freaks like Lee Priest, Sergio Oliva, and a few others stood out truly blessed when they went natural. Dorian Yates scientific pharma methods also turned the whole thing on its head. Whilst I praised the heavy duty approach to training, the pharmaceutical side was something else altogether. Just ugly, and damn right dangerous no matter which way you look at it. You only have to look at the legions of pro and amateur bodybuilders who have since died before 50 yrs of age since the ultra conditioned mass monster era

    • @dumbcat
      @dumbcat Месяц назад

      @@Pulsonar i think even some 1960's and 1970's era bodybuilders abused drugs. in Wendy Leigh's book "Arnold: An Unauthorized Biography" the book states, 'Arnold took steroids in quantities that terrified the other bodybuilders'. it seems like newer drugs came online in the 1990's along with possibly greater knowledge and maybe better doctor supervision. i gave up on bodybuilding about the time Rich Gaspari remarked after winning around 35K in prize money, "Well, that will just about pay for my drugs this year." i forget where i heard that, but i think is was actually printed in a bodybuilding magazine. i'm pretty sure i did not just hear it from someone at the gym.

    No offense to the guy that is 5' 2" tall and 160lbs but to me, the impressive part about being aesthetic is pulling it off with a vast amount of muscle on your frame. I believe virtually anyone who is 160 lean will have a very aesthetic and semetrical appearance, therefore I am not nearly as impressed by it.

      I love Samir in 83 as well, why do you think someone like Clairemont should be higher?

    • @Tomn8er
      @Tomn8er  7 лет назад

      I guess I just like his lines more. Generally I prefer taller/leaner guys, I think that adds to their aesthetics

      Maybe he would if we would have been leaner.

    I just about lost my lunch the other day when I heard that goofball Lui Marco, say that Sean Ray didn't have an aesthetic physique!

    • @Tomn8er
      @Tomn8er  7 лет назад +4

      beerthug lol well knowing him I'm sure he'd say Yates or Cutler are more aesthetic. I could never understand all his praise for Jay's trainwreck of a midsection

    • @beerthug
      @beerthug 7 лет назад

      Oh don't get me started on Cutler! Perfect example of 'would you want to look like this guy?'. I just don't get it, what is there that's appealing about him? Just a big, blocky, awkward, brick, with a personality to match!
