    I had a stressful Christmas holidays. On the final day and 4 hour drive home I felt extreme tightness twisting to one side. Sensations were a 8/10. I remained calm, said it’s just PDP and continued my life. It was a testing 1.5 weeks but I never let it get me down. No physio no massage no foam rolling zero sensations in that area now- I’m back to training 5 days a week again. I would tell myself that a drive home doesn’t cause extreme pain I’m not fragile. As you say Dan the fire alarm is blaring but there’s no fire. With each passing day I pushed the twisting movement just a little more knowing this is PDP. I don’t care brain we are training and YOU are coming along for this ride. I don’t need this level of protection I’m capable enough. Can and will!!!!

    When I used to have a flare up of symptoms (especially after a few good days) it would frustrate and depress me so much and I’d think I was back to square one. Now I know what to do (thanks Dan) I’ve noticed the flares doesn’t last as long and this gives me confidence that I’m going in the right direction.

    I've been about 90% better from chronic pain. This week my pain has returned. Thankfully, I watched this video. I know what to do, yes, I've "freaked out" but, not as badly, and will carry on. THANK YOU Dan!! I needed this video.

    When I try and resume "exercise" & I mean nothing strenuous lol always followed by what feels like extreme pain, I mean literally almost bedridden. My family say I need to warm up better, even warming up did the same. Had Never put the "perceived danger " label to this before. Sometimes we mustn't actually hear or absorb all the info you give us, maybe it's me lol but this part of today's message was a lightbulb moment! Took myself into the park and increased the walking distance by a bit. Felt a bit short of breath ( I'm a quick walker) wanted to leave. Talked to myself. It's TMS & also realised I'd had left the house with unresolved differences with partner, carried over from yesterday, & straight away pain in my head n joints. Made myself stay a bit longer before heading back to the car to listen to today's message.

      You have described my life from 2019-October 2021 before I read Sarno and adopted Dan’s strategies. I’m stronger than ever now and hit the gym 5 days a week. I know the journey you speak of and I’m proof you can get well based on what Dan teaches. At least 4 seperate times I tried to train again only to feel symptoms and I was so frightened to exercise and even move I abandoned everything and was bed ridden for weeks on end. I got better slowly moving and my mind was freed when Sarno and one PT said the words “There is nothing wrong with you”. I can run sprints now, twist and even deadlift weights now something I was told numerous times that I would never do. It’s not true, our bodies are capable of so much. Good luck and keep going!

    • @joseblaze7154
      @joseblaze7154 3 года назад +4

      As for the warmups. I adopted ridiculous 30-45 minute rituals and slow static stretches and hard foaming rolling. Didn’t help as all the PTs told me. I don’t believe in any of that anymore. Dan says our bodies know how to heal and how to move. I don’t have to let my mind get in the way. I do a gentle walk with some mobility drills and I’m ready to train again 5 -8 minutes max. I found the mobility drills not traditional stretching the most effective as it forced me to move in different positions and over time I would do them in the mirror telling my brain look at how you move, you aren’t broken look at what you can do. I used it as proof to self soothe and it gave me confidence through a small success. Success breeds confidence and confidence breeds success. I started new positive ways of thinking.

    I'm glad I found your RUclips channel. This video was very helpful. I had Sciatica (really TMS) in 2010. I was in the midst of physical therapy which did no good, and started reading Dr. Sarno's books. I read Healing Back Pain and The Mind Body Prescription. I thought nothing is getting any better, so I called a psychologist who worked with Sarno's methods. She said that she wanted me to read the Divided Mind by Sarno before I came in to talk to her. I did, and I totally understood and accepted what was going on and just by reading that book, my pain went away I never saw the psychogist. Having said that, here it is 2023 and I got laid off after 25 years with the same company. The sciatica (TMS) came back worse than ever. I think what helped me get over it the first time was understanding and accepting that it was only TMS. It helped by reading and listening to case studies and knowing that you are not alone.

    What timing, this just happened to me yesterday. For 10 minutes I was stuck in the kitchen. My first thought was my band is playing tonight, what am I gonna do. Second thought was oh wait, placed my awareness on my breath and went from fear to a sort of fascination with this TMS thing which was a sort of calling out I suppose. In 10 min the pain deminished to the point I could keep loading my guitars ECT. In about half an hour the pain was history. I pretty much did what you said in this vid, I've heard you say this stuff before in different ways. Thanks Dan !

    Thank you for this video. I had TMS for years and then I discovered Sarno's work and my symptoms got dramatically better. I gradually reengaged in all the physical activities I had given up. That was 5 years ago. Since then I've been largely pain free except I would occasionally have back and neck tension at work. Last week I had a minor virus infection and along with the sore throat I had some forearm tightness. The sore throat went away in a day but the tension in my forearms got worse. I thought it could be inflammation from the virus. So I got an appointment with a practitioner. She seemed baffled by my condition but prescribed me some steroids. I took the steroids and ibuprofen for a day but I didn't help. It was then that I realized I had been tricked. There was no inflammation in my hands and forearms. It was TMS. It's now been a day since I fully believed what's going on is TMS. I do worry that my hand weakness will continue into next week when I'm scheduled to return to work. However, I will try and be patient. 100% believe that it is TMS. I just need to remind myself that it will go away. Be patient.

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  2 года назад +2

      Great realization. The less fear and attention you give to your forearms, the faster they will return to normal. There's nothing to fix. The body knows what to do. Trust it.

    What about a relapse that involves a recurrence of a physical symptom such as a tear and bleeding and pain that comes with that? I think there is PD in leading to the relapse happening but the concern is that the symptom that has come back is physical and the brain fixated on the pain that comes with it and keeps it going and increasing.

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  9 месяцев назад

      If there is tissue damage, that is not TMS/Perceived Danger Pain. Treat tears and bleeding medically.

    Hey Dan, I’m new to listening to you, but have read Dr.Sarnos book Mindbody prescription. I have been using his technique of connecting unconscious feelings and emotions that need to be consciously realized in order to remove pain. This has worked dramatically for me until a flare up I had recently. I’m curious that you say that movement can be the cause that scares the body and sends a danger signal, and that should be the accepted brain signal. But Sarno says it is unconscious emotions that causes the pain. Just a different message and I’m curious why you say that? Sarno says using his technique should cure your body, and not have reoccurring flare ups unless you have deep emotions that should be explored with a psychotherapist

    Interesting, though I was told by the doctor and a physiotherapist that if you overdo a physical activity and over-solicite the tendons you won't feel the pain straight away but the following day/two days later. The same goes for the muscles soreness. Any thoughts, please? 😊

    Hi Dan, last sunday I had low back pain out of nowhere, but then I remembered that the night before I had a bit of arguments with my wife so thats might be the cause...so I keep living my life, keep working out (strangely the pain quieted down during workout and came back not long after I finish) and after a few days, it is pretty much gone. But this morning (also sunday here) the pain occured again. Out of nowhere again, same area again. Eventhough I did not have any conflict or anything like that. I know it will pass, but I'm just curious what might cause it psychologycally? Thanks Dan for all the videos!
