A lot of times with these customer drive aways is because they really can't afford to repair their vehicles. With the cost of parts and labor these days, I can sympathize with them. Had the downstream O2 sensor on my Miata fail. The shop wanted $450 to replace it. I did it myself and it cost me $50.
not everyone has the mechanical aptitude to do their own repairs. and some people just don’t have the patience to learn. and with some jobs, it needs to be taken to a shop. i work in a body shop so most stuff i deal with can’t be done in a non-shop environment. what we charge for labor is limited to a certain amount but exact amounts will depend on experience, complexity of the repair, certifications, etc. parts pricing can be impacted by the age of the vehicle (older the car, harder it is to find parts), the vehicle owner’s desired part source (OEM, used, salvage, aftermarket), if the shop actually has to obtain the part (no parts cost if customer provides parts),etc. whether its warranty or not also matters (warranty work is free, so no parts cost or labor costs. but also body shops don’t usually perform warranty work)

I'm 70 now, and my husband and I have both had some long-lasting cars, going well over 200K miles on one Toyota Corolla. My current Subaru Forester is ten years old, and I've had no problems. Daddy also told me to get small repairs done, before they turned into major, expensive problems. Smart man, my daddy.
i learnt the hard way. i loved my civic and it was so reliable i took it for granted and kind of neglected it. now it's on my drive needing an engine rebuild and a lot of welding. i've bought another one since then, a 1999 1.4 with less than 50k. when i went to look at it i couldn't believe my eyes. i opened the oil cap and there was golden oil on silver metal. no brown or black to be seen inside that engine. i hope to keep it that way.

I serviced cars for a living for 8 years. If I had taken pics, they'd be here! I remember a year old Chevrolet Sonic came in for it's FIRST oil change @ almost 50k miles! Needless to say the cartridge oil filter CRUMBLED into pieces when I went to take it out! I had to spend 15 minutes with needle nosed pliers to get all the chunks I could out! Fast forward a year and the customer came back for their service records (engine failure!) Chev dealer needed them for warranty claim. Turned out that the car had roughly 100k miles now, AND THAT WAS THE ONLY OIL CHANGE! They couldn't understand why their claim was denied! 😂
In the trade, porky pies everyday. When you dig into the problem " oh i didn't know that would cause this" "i know i should have had it fixed earlier " and " can you do it for a cheaper price" 😂😂😂😂
Now I'm no car expert, but I feel like a lot of the people that refused repairs simply couldn't afford to have them done. Let me know if I'm wrong on that, but from my knowledge of North American cities, owning a car is essentially required. I think a lot of these people are just trying to get by, though there are definitely some obvious stupid fails.
In the 80s I had an older Toyota that the frame rusted and the bed was into the cab. That is what was holding it up. We jacked it up, eye balled it, bumped it a little to straighten it and a buddy welded plates on it. I had it checked for alignment to see how far off we were and it was spot on. Very lucky.
I did that puddle thing back in the day with my Geo Metro. Poor thing was in water up to the doors and smelled like dead swamp fish when it finally dried out.
as someone who is intrerested in coding, i like to say that the diffrence between bad code and good code is that bad code is held together with string and duct tape, and good code is held together with less string and more duct tape. the problem here is that cars are not code, a lesson some people seem to need to learn.
It made me mad when something like that went down. You are making the roads unsafe not only for yourself but everyone else. A mechanic should have the authority to call the police and have the car red flagged and impounded!
Yeah, the fun part of that bill are the labor charges. A friend of mine took his Prius to the dealership for an oil change and they told him he needed brakes and rotors all around. The bill was around $900. I looked at the bill and they were charging 2 hours labor on replacing the fucking rotors! I explained to him how brakes are done and that they fucked him hard.

This isn’t the only time they had an issue with frames either. In 2016, Toyota settled a class-action lawsuit by agreeing to spend $3 billion to repair rusting frames on 2004 - 2008 models.
@@Scottie8740 All of the Tacoma's & 4Runners seem to have this issue. Here in Portland, Oregon they don't salt the roads, yet I have had to tell a number of owners their vehicle is a death trap due to having a frame made out of crappy used steel with iron oxide in it from new...
All these "Customer declined repairs and drove away" ones...... We need a reunion/where are they now episode !
In the morgue, in the hospital, in debt...
@@MyRegardsToTheDodo And the DEA impound lot. Dopers love those junkers as its no loss if they lose it.
These videos are a combination of hilarious and horrifying but always entertaining.
Oh yeah, the footballs? Another shop installed those for me this morning. 😂
For air helper springs footballs are surprisingly ingenious. High pressure rubber bladder covered in an abrasion resistant cover. Leave the inflator valves accessible and they can even be adjusted. A bit homebrew but nothing fundamentally wrong with the idea.
That Eldorado is gorgeous!
Took a long time to walk around that thing with a camera.
Almost gorgeous. if it were a stock restoration, i.e. correct Cad hubcaps and seats, then that Eldo would've been gorgeous!
The sunshade on the display screen is not a bad idea, just a little crudely done.
When I worked at a small TV station we used to improvise monitor sunshades out of anything handy.
@@MrBirdnoseAs the old saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention!
That "yup" from the tire clip tells us everything. This man has seen some things.
What better place to store your extra muffler clamps?
Once they rust in place you never lose them. 🤣
The best thing is watching these rusted out cars from California.
What's this thing called RUST. 🤣 Yeah I live in NorCal. My 78 dodge is nearly pristine.
Japanese cars rust out here in Portland, Oregon even though they don't salt the roads...
1:09 - I'm almost impressed the customer COULD drive away.
Tacoma's have a recall about the frame rusting out, could have got a new frame for free.
Not for first gens anymore. Don't think Toyota ever makes replacements anymore.
@@Harrier42861 TOYOTAS ARE GARBAGE
The issue is that Japan doesn't re-smelt the used steel it imports so it comes with Iron Oxide in the metal they use to make cars in Japan & North America...
Here in Portland Oregon they don't salt the roads, yet i have had to explain the wood punch test, i.e. using a wood punch in your hand to see if it is steel or scale. And I have had to tell numerous owners of Tacoma's & 4Runner's that their car is dangerous despite having a body that looks great. Similar to ruclips.net/video/tcLsJYlpNF8/видео.htmlsi=MCCcIOYcIluMNZec&t=87 but without the body rust. At least Toyota has improved their game a bit as my stepfather's Corona lasted 18 months until it was totaled by two Michigan winters...
I won't even consider buying a crappy Toyota or Honda due to this and many other issues...
I'm sad.... yet again, no spray foam 😢😢
Thanks for posting, have a great weekend!
Getting any sleep yet with the twins??
At 1:35 the frame is held together with Bondo. I'd say that's close enough to sprayfoam, the way it's used here.
@BakedRBeans I'll allow it! Lol
Not the same narrator. The original narrator who had the twins no longer makes the videos
5:42 Lookin' like Garbage Time's Nutella oil holy moly
People, please, do not copy what they do to that poor nugget on Garbage Time. No vehicle deserves it.
... Except maybe THAT STINKIN' DONKEY VAN!
Cust: I don't know man. My car just stopped all of a sudden
Car: I need gas boss.
These videos always make me feel better, even though they full of stupid people! 🤣
I hope everyone has a safe and great Thanksgiving day!
@ 2:00 They manufacturer probably still denied the warranty even though the car had not even been sold yet.
0:26 This sounded like a mechanics version of the SPAM section from Monty Python's Flying Circus.
Can I get a clamp , no sorry we all sold out 😂❤

We laughed our tails off on the ‘’solutions’’ that had been made by ???? ✅ LOVED the volume of what good mechanics were saying was loud enough to hear. On some others, there is silence and we don’t know what the mechanic is finding.
@8:01 dude hit a Predator!
Nailed it!!!
2:48 So, did another shop give this guy a "pass" for the inspection the previous year?
In what kind of a third world country are customers allowed to take those literal death traps back onto public roads unrepaired?
Most of the USA - where they believe in the freedom to drive death traps is paramount and screw the rest of the drivers on the road. The craziest are slowly taking over most of the USA
"California"
You'll be amazed I once saw a jeep with no doors, hood, or anything. Just a body frame with seats and seatbelts driving around
These videos never surprise me at all. 👍 the Caddy in the last clip, the owner is the only sane person in the videos 😊
Awesome stuff from beginning to end. Love that '68 Eldorado at the end. It, and its sister, the Toronado, are still my favorite car designs.
Used to go to the Great Canadian Oil Change in Leamington ONT, only to find out that they had never changed the oil filter. 😮💨
Can someone explain why the oil change interval in my UK based Mercedes is 12,000 miles - what kind of junk do they put in It US cars - service & oil change once a year?
Even though I think the German TÜV (safety inspection) is way to expensive, I am very happy we are forced to go there. People are ignorant and stupid, glad this type of neglect ain't possible here. Scary.
Shops and "technicians" making major bucks on a daily basis don't have the capability of relating to those of us who are barely able to tread water to merely exist any longer.
NGL that 2004 Chevy Tahoe with 450K miles inspires admiration. Throws a plug? Stick it back in and go another 450K.
I used epoxy on air cooled VW's years ago and told the owner they will need a new pair of cylinder heads in 25,000 to 50,000 miles. I would have done the same to that Tahoe if an insert or heli-coil didn't fix it...
I wouldn't even let my LAWN MOWER get in this bad shape as even the best ones were. You guys have unreal patience!
A safety inspection for car who's door won't even latch?? I think that mechanic was being trolled
A .99 cent door hook from Home Depot would have done the job beautifully.
videos like this is why i avoid being near any "modified vehicles" especially lifted compensation mobiles.
7:40 "If it bleeds we can kill it"
i thought someone was trying to get their nuclear boy scout badge when i first saw that😂😂😂😂
Stepping out on a limb here: the footballs are a surprisingly ingenious homebrew air helper spring. A high pressure rubber bladder covered by an abrasion and weather resistant cover. Looks to be just the right size for the coil springs too. Leave the inflator uncovered to adjust the pressure for the load. Someone put some thought into that bit of vehicle customization!
I am actually happy to see these videos, most come from repair shops that actually have pride in their job.
Who put those wheels on that '68 Eldorado, stood back and thought 'yep, that's an improvement'?
Viewing these disasters gives me anxiety. But I can't turn away...
That’s the person hoarding all the muffler clamps
Cars filled with garbage never cease to amaze me. Don't these people ever put gas in their car? Every gas station I've been to always has a trash barrel right next to the pump. Use it!
Nah I'm proud of that 04 tahoe. 450,000 miles??? That gmt 800 platform was GM's golden age
The last time I had a dealer do an oil change, they tightened the drain plug on so tight, that at the next change (which I did), it took two of us and a cheater bar to get the drain plug loose. The idiot at the dealership apparently put the plug on with an impact wrench.
The clamp segment made me dig out Arlo Guthrie's album with song ( the strange story of Ruben Clamzo's strange daughter in the key of 'A') record title "one night live" it's great ~ clam, clam, clam ~
thinking about getting one of those chevy equinox's, seem like a really bulletproof car.... LOL
Two owners I know have had no issues with theirs...
Tacoma frame should have been a warranty job.
Nah. Toyota should have been banned from North America for the frames on Tacoma's & 4Runner's for that shit. They rust out here in Portland, Oregon and they don't salt the roads...
This clip just startet with the german audiotrack. Boy this is bad XD Switched zu english immediately. As a german this sounded absolut grauenhaft. Meine Güte.
Great compilation as always, thanks ^^
That Eldo at the end was absolutely gorgeous except for the wheels
It is amazing how some people are willing to risk their life (and those around them) to save a few bucks.
There was a time when Toyota would replace your frame for free if you owned a Tacoma.
Really curious to see if it's just a helicoil needed on that 450k Tahoe 😂
Same here. Or epoxy, like I would do on air cooled VWs after telling the own they will need a new pair of cylinder heads in 25k to 50k or so miles...
Not drivable? Hold my beer!
I like the tech doing his impression of Burgess Meredith's Penguin....
DEI hires at car manufacturers will keep mechanics in business forever.
Mechanics have the best sense of humor. I guess they would have too to get through the day sometimes.
I enjoyed the Clamp Song!😁
KIA's new underbody rustproofing seems very effective. Though questionably efficient.
as someone who is intrerested in coding, i like to say that the diffrence between bad code and good code is that bad code is held together with string and duct tape, and good code is held together with less string and more duct tape. the problem here is that cars are not code, a lesson some people seem to need to learn.
Happy Thanksgiving to you.
It made me mad when something like that went down. You are making the roads unsafe not only for yourself but everyone else. A mechanic should have the authority to call the police and have the car red flagged and impounded!
give him the clamps CLAMP xD had too lol .....
A local shop quoted me $850 for a front and rear brake job. We did it ourselves for about $200 with new everything.
That seems like the cost for the parts. Add labor. Taxes and the hours on the clock.
@@jacqueline-fc8wb Naw, that "labor" is some shyster crap.
Customer declined repairs and drove away.
@@WastedTalent- Not if it had pressed on rotors like many Toyota's and Honda's...
I wonder if the person put on all of those muffler clamps in an attempt to make it more difficult for the catalytic converter to be stolen.
My favorite.. spark plug blew out after 400+thousand miles the picture of the spark plug said it all
I remember when I asked my dad, who used to work in a shop, what the worst thing he had seen was. He couldn’t really remember, but he told me once a car started folding in half when they raised it up XD
Dangerous vehicles, and their equally dangerous owners!
2:45 Reckon that Merc might be a 'cut-n-shut' job!?!
