  • In this video, I turn a natural live edge vessel / vase from an American black walnut log. The log was badly cracked so could not use all part of the wood therefore cut the best part out so I can wood turn this into a vase. A natural edge bowl or vase is one where the rim of the project utilises the wood in its natural state and flowing with the natural surface characteristics of the log. This wooden vessel was finished with boiled linseed oil. 😊

    Amazing! I'm puzzled why woodworker who have a bandsaw don't take the corners off the blanks..why not turn an octagon rather than a square?

    • @DavidsWoodturning
      @DavidsWoodturning  3 года назад +1

      Thank you, i do not like adjusting the bed of the bandsaw as it is perfectly set up to square cuts. Only takes few mins with sharp gouge to make it round 😊

    Why didn’t you just use a photo of a random tree for the thumbnail?? Would have been just about as accurate 👎🏻
    …also, surely you know not to use a spindle roughing gouge on a cross grain work.

      @@DavidsWoodturning I didn’t, I turned off after watching you cut the thumbnail log into a small blank and then try to knock the corners off with a roughing gouge.
