Cool. I would like to have seen some of Bowies NY during the 70s. Even if a ton of it is now gone. Maybe next time? True story. I am a native New Yorker but moved upstate in 2002 close to where Bowie had his country home. One day I went to work out at the small local gym we have up here and who do I see on the treadmill? None other than Bowie himself! I smiled and gave him a nod. He did the same. Then we went about our individual workouts. About ten minutes later "Lets Dance" came on the stereo. He didnt even bat an eye. Like it wasnt even playing. Haha.

The Angry French Existentialist (AKA The Frenchistentialist) i wonder ( a little) if he'd do the same after the invention of the smartphone/camera? Cheers for the image though.

David had considered moving back to London but decided to stay in NYC. He was concerned about being too recognisable in London & preferred the anonymity NY offered. His last trip to London was in 2014 shortly after his cancer diagnosis. He made a nostalgic tour of his old homes & haunts & wanted his daughter Lexi to see where he had come from. Gone but never forgotten.

711honved he also visited London on 7th July 13 to visit this exhibition at the V&A .I know because I was one of the first on that day and the staff talked about it. He'd left before we entered and was apparently 'very pleased' with it.

Thanks I've long been curious to see Bowie's New York haunts as I know he loved the city. Saw him live in 87. When the lights went down the crowd ran to the stage. The surge pushed me to front centre a few feet from the stage. Great show, despite what the critics said of Glass Spider. For a while I lived in London, not far from Bromley where Bowie once lived. Got on my bicycle one day and visited some of the places he lived and frequented there. His very small and ordinary childhood suburban home and some pubs where he drank and played. In London I visited the street where they shot the Ziggy album cover. There's still a red phone booth there tho I don't know if its the one he's pictured in on the album sleeve. Years later I would see "David Bowie Is" at London's V&A. The stark, austere, Thin White Duke attire oozed magic and mystery amongst a kaliedescope of iconic costumes. I encourage people to visit this extraordinary exhibition now in New York. Like the rest of the planet I was shocked at his passing. I shed tears, thanked him for all he gave us and bade him goodbye and later was in quiet awe at the artistic way he took his leave of the world.

David Bowie is English and if you want to understand him properly you need to make a film in England. live here, New York has very little to do with Bowie it was just a place he lived for awhile, the way Americans claim David Bowie as one of their own is ridiculous, everything about him is English through and through as in culture.
