I think you put it very aptly and diplomatically, Don: in a ship with literally over a thousand passengers and crew members worked off their feet around the clock to service them all every day, no, they are not available to be a personal circus for free as well. If it's such an important and meaningful family tradition, perhaps those passengers can keep it as such and arrange their elf's activities themselves without imposing upon others.
Maybe the owners of "Snickdoodle" should give each other an early Christmas present of "Therapy" this year. The sooner the better, for the sake of all of us!
I love the Elf on the Shelf shenanigans.❤ My daughter does it for my grandsons. Though I agree with the cruise line. It shouldn't be the cabin steward's responsibility. The parents should do it like they do at home.
I'm chiming back in about this year-long pass. I love the concept, but it's about $10,000 a month I'm pretty sure any seasoned cruiser can find a way to cruise for less than $10,000 a month.
God! Those parents must have thought that the entire crew was put there exclusively for them and their bloody elf. Put a note in the kids' luggage "Bon Voyage, Snickerdoodle" then get someone to come over and cause total havoc through their house as though Snickerdoodle has been partying the whole time.
If they did it for one, they'd have to do for all who ask and that's ridiculous. If the Captain would take a pic of the elf driving the boat, then provide it to everyone for a small price, that would be some holiday fun for everyone. Like the picture on a postcard, luggage sticker, or something similar.
Did everyone finally figure out that all those upside down pineapples belong to the family that start eating buffet at ten in the morning by the pool and does not finish until eight that same night? We all know who they are. Them or someone like them show up on every cruise to get "their money's worth on that buffet".
These people should stay home so they can do whatever they want with snickerdoodle. Maybe one of the parents can leave dinner early to go to the "bathroom" and put snickerdoodle however it needs to be.
Don’t know that I would consider Virgin a “major” cruise line. Don’t they just have 3 ships? And saying move to a new ship for a different vibe - I thought all their ships were the same? It’s definitely an intriguing program, and I look forward to hearing how well it works, but this isn’t RCCL or Carnival or anything like that - they have 3 ships.
@@Bender13$120,000 for two people, one balcony cabin for a year. (Which is $60,000 per person but double occupancy only so pass is $120,000. I'll take it please. 😅 In my dreams.
These people who want their Elf on a Shelf given special treatment are pretty ignorant of other people's job time constraints!! They should do their own parenting!!
I would think you’d see more on a world cruise than a year pass since the ships seem to go the same places for a while. Not to mention the airfare cost and logistics
I think you got it right on, Don. I don't think that the passengers on any large cruise ship would be happy if every passenger tied up the staff with elf duty, or with the security breach from all those pictures of the bridge.
Viking used to be a fair deal 10, 15 twenty years ago. I noticed between 7 to 8 years they literally doubled their price on river cruises. Viking Ocean Cruises were never cheap. For the price Celebrity gives the same service for 1\3 less in price.
If that pass was for Viking (and the same price), it would be a bargain. For VCL, not so much. There aren’t as many ships and itineraries available. Also, Elf on the Shelf is creepy. That’s one holiday tradition I’d be glad to dispose of!
Oh, so many Grinch quotes come to mind: “Even if we're horribly mangled, there will be no sad faces on Christmas.” "How dare you enter the Grinch's lair? The impudence! The audacity! The unmitigated gall!" "What is that stench? It's fantastic!" "if you see me smiling, it's because I'm thinking of doing something evil, if I'm laughing I've already done it!" "Now, pucker up and kiss it, Whoville!"
I think the parents should take care of it themselves. One could step away at dinner to "use the bathroom," but it took a few extra minutes because "the closest one was closed for cleaning." It could be kind of neat if the cruise line made some type of generic pictures of elves in the bridge area (or at least something that looks like the bridge), but it would be up to the parents to make up a story to convince the kids of what happened. No, the crew doesn’t have a bunch of extra time to do extra things.
Wow. Agree Don. I can see if they were in a suite, yacht club etc. It’s parents. Why can’t one leave the room with the child or children while the other parent hides the snickerdoodles? You just said the same as ending the video.
Hi Don it’s like you said yourself the stewards are very busy and all they want to do is get their quota of work done but if are offered a nice tip then it’s up to them to accept or not cheers Don
Some people are so plain ignorant but not stupid to think the captain can have something to do with it and your suggestion is the route they should be going for by tipping the cabin steward for the unusual request. It's if every one is not busy enough as they're with some cruise lines cutting staffing that they would have time to doodle around.
Hmmm. Yeah, not sure the Virgin year long thing is a good idea. The “if cabin availability” clause would make me very nervous. I thought cruising was at an all time high? So you’re not guaranteed a cabin, much less a balcony cabin? And I guess they give you exactly one year to take advantage of this?… I thank 🙏🏻 the Lord every single Christmas that Elf on a Shelf wasn’t around when my daughter was little. 😂 I can’t believe that these parents were seriously asking this. 🤪
Good heavens.....NO, the cabin stewards should NOT do this. Do it yourself, people! There would be plenty of opportunities for you to do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought that the idea of a Christmas Cruise (or most vacations) was to get away from your everyday routine; try something new and different. This "Elf/Shelf" request was an example of something that needs to be left at home. Also, these parents must be from the "Me Generation"; they live in their own little universe with no thought of how their requests might negatively impact others. They probably need to stay at home for the holidays if the ELF is so Holiday critical.
Virgin no longer port from Australia... Not a loss for me but others might like Virgin. Crew do not have time for passenger shenanigans. Last week our Steward had real requests to attend with the cabins assigned to him. Passengers unwell, Food and Wine spilt on the carpet, in the bed etc. Shower temperature knob broke, Vacuum toilet system not always working, dealing with fastening equipment because of high winds.
@@TracyKMainwaring I just read the email that Virgin sent me and they said that Premium WiFi including streaming is included with the annual pass. Sounds like an upgrade
Unbelievable! They seriously don’t think the stewards have anything else to do? Multiple this by 20 or more that the stewards may be faced with each day during the cruise! Ridiculous expectations. Can’t believe they even asked… the captain??? I would certainly rather him/her just watch the bridge and keep us on course. Little Elf won’t fair well floating in the ocean if the worst happens because captain is hiding multiple elves in the bridge for everyone who jumps on this bandwagon1!!
Mom or dad should be able to do that without bother the crew because they are very busy people and I feel like some people got too much time on their hands
So awful about the 72 y/o man. Heard on another site that he left a note? Virgin-$$$ wonder what the availability is, once you buy the deal? Also- port fees & taxes are high.
Cabin stewards barely have time to get done what they HAVE to get done. I actually think this is one of the most entitled and ridiculous requests I've ever heard...
I agree, if you bring elf, take care of it yourself! The crew are busy enough taking care ALL of the passengers

I guarantee these privileged folks who want the stewards to play with their elf on the shelf are the same Karen and Kens who take off the gratuities!
Or complain how annoying the ducks are
Don, thank you for the updates. While others say there are many different cruise vloggers, I do enjoy your videos.
omg...leave the the elf at home!
⬆⬆⬆
Agreed. It's a creeepy idea anyway.anyway.
NO!! Do not ask your cabin steward to do something this “extra”! They have enough to do and don’t need an imposition like this.

That elf on the shelf is a little outrageous, involving the captain? Really?
Cabin stewards have more important things to do than to hide childrens toys, not to mention very little (if any) spare time.
If they did it for one, they'd have to do for all who ask and that's ridiculous. Although it is out of my price range I think that the year long pass is a nice idea for those that would enjoy it
It seems to me that the parents can find a spot each day for the elf themselves. Just do it after the kids go to bed.

a new ship coming to Orlando.... drives me crazy. No ships are coming to Orlando LOL
I’ll start a rumor that a ship is coming here to Palm Springs (California!)
@rallegra are you the Rick we met on Resilient Lady's TA?
Orlando is over 70 miles inland. There is no canal or river that connects Orlando to the ocean so how do ships reach Orlando? Don is clueless.
@@MrSimondrury saying Orlando is very common in the cruise community. It's not just Don.

EXACTLY Don. Offer a decent tip up front for the elf stuff
It's crazy to ask the stateroom attendant to set up someone's "elf on a shelf"! Get your own butt down to your stateroom and do it yourself! Lol😅
All dining on Virgin is specialty dining. Internet is included as well. Love Virgin.
The cabin steward is not your personal butler. Sheeesh.....
Then why did mine offer to help me undress for bed? 😮
If they do this elf plan for one family they would have to do it for all. I agree with the no answer.
$120,000, I think I will pass. Plus, they only have 3 ships!
$60,000 per person. $120,000 for two. Not too expensive. I can only dream. 😊
Was it $60,000 per person or $120,000 per person. And was that in US currency? As a Canadian that would be close to $170,000. That’s a lot of money.

What if Virgin sells a lot of these yearly passes and one cannot go when and where I want?

I would talk with the room steward and see if some extra cash to do it. If not than do it yourself after having the kids out of the room.
The elf thing is just beyond comprehension! Some people are just lost in their own worlds!
Elf on shelf is stupid.
The irony of " dolly" with a "doll" pic saying this is amazing 😊

That's a big ask for those people to have the room stuwart stage their elf . Do it yourself like you were at home.
If you can cruise only if they have a cabin, they would probably conveniently have no cabins available. Or cancel your cabin for someone else.

I hate the elf on the shelf. I ever see one and he's going overboard. (Not really) it will find itself where it doesn't want to be.
Just work it out with your steward. The Captain does not need to get involved.
