Yeah Jones Law Blues. One of my favourite tunes at all. I love the middle part with the soft sound of the horns. Mr. Pops Coffee explained this theme is related to the Saturday Night Function theme. Todd sounds so great and Max did a fantastic job on banjo.
Many thanks, John. What a curious piece of music it is. It starts and finishes firmly in the key of C minor but otherwise contains much in the related key of E flat major. There is a theme at 01:12 in E flat very reminiscent of Ellington and Bigard's 'Saturday Night Function'. It is repeated at 01:35. Like 'Jones Law Blues' , 'Saturday Night Function' was composed in 1929, and is in Tuba Skinny's repertoire. Also like 'Saturday Night Function', 'Jones Law Blues' includes several straightforward 12-bar blues sections all in E flat. Although the original recording by Benny Moten included a saxophone and a piano, Tuba Skinny as ever have produced their rifacimento with enormous respect, even for example in giving prominence to the banjo (from 01:35) during the second run-through of the 'Saturday Night Function' theme.
Greetings from Doug C (South Korea) 🔅 I've just smashed the Like Button even before listening to Tuba Skinny Cover of "Jones Law Blues" because I've already liked it to be shared in 12 hours from now, based on your great-as-usual curatorial notes. 🔅 Tks !! 🔅 Cheers !! 🔅
The label on Victor 23357-B credits Moten-Basie as the composers but the copyright for 'Jones(The) Law Blues' words and music by B. Howell was registered June 29,1929. B. Howell is Bobbie Howell of Chicago and that is all I know.

Been reading your book Pops. Not since the Neville brothers have I been so influenced by the New Orleans sounds.
