The "gentleman" who badmouthed you in that comment needs to be sure that he produces all his own food, because the supermarket he shops at is reselling products they did not produce themselves, the clothing store he shops at is reselling products they did not produce themselves, the department store he shops at is reselling products they did not produce themselves, on and on and on. As you point out, donating items to shelters and charities has ZERO guarantee that the donated items will come anywhere near the people who need them. Reselling is what keeps tens of thousands of people from needing public charity, keeps tens of thousands of tons of material out of landfills, and helps keep perfectly usable items in use that would otherwise have to be replaced with items manufactured using more of the resources that were already used to produce the item being resold. The real vultures are the people who believe that they are so morally superior that they should be given the items they want at other peoples' cost.

I also have to say that thrift stores should be very grateful to resellers. There is only so much they would be able to sell off in their local economies and resellers are a HUGE part of their business. It shouldn't make them price up their items, that is greedy on their part. They were given the item in hopes the item could continue to find use. The thrift stores provide jobs in their local economies, so they play a great part, the resellers find the item and get them to the person searching for that item. Not everyone has time to thrift or even knows how to.

I am a reseller and I get criticized for selling used things. But My main goal is the fact of how crazy many people throw away new stuff and semi used items. Many are shoppers and like us we are resellers because we know the value of things . Filling up the landfill of new stuff is not going away but each of us is a little grain of helps the environment.

I recently sold something within 2 hours of listing it because it was from the buyer's hometown. I was so happy that something I saved had memories and meaning to someone else who will cherish it.

As a person with health issues that would not allow me to work a regular full time job, reselling allows me to be a productive member of society. I pay my bills, do cat rescue and care for a 90 year old woman that I live with that would be in a nursing home otherwise. Reselling supports us along with Social Security and proves that if your willing to work (even if you cannot do it on a regular 9-5 consistent day in day out basis) you CAN make ends meet with your own two hands and take pride in what you do. I LOVE reselling and frankly the reselling community has LONG proven itself with its generosity and kindness shown to many, many reseller's that got sick, had some sort of disaster or whatever. You won't find a more supportive and generous community...imo. I am proud to be amongst them.

@@Ughstopped Interesting. You don't know me or any of my situation except for what I have shared. But you ASSume that I just have free time. I am not "well off" but I am making ends meet by doing what I do. I don't sell used clothes. Not every reseller sells clothes. Did you happen to read my post where I said I am the caregiver to a 91 year old woman who was my neighbor? Did you happen to read that I rescue cats and occasionally other animals? I was on disability and it has since switched to Social Security which should tell you I am at least 65. I have Psoriatic Arthritis, Fibromyalgia and am in kidney failure stage 3. So tell me again how much time I have on my hands? The last thing I need is something else to do. I need time to take care of me but I also need to survive. I am not panhandling or begging for a dollar from someone on a street corner. I am providing a service that there is an apparent need for because otherwise no one would be interested or buy from any of us. But they do. And most of us give much better customer service than any store in business because we CARE about our customers. While you sit in your self righteous arm chair making incorrect judgements about people you know NOTHING about... WE are working for ourselves to make a living that is 100% honest. Goodwill does NOT serve the poor. They do not hand out free clothing or goods to ANYONE. EVER. Everyone has the same opportunity as I do to go in and buy whatever they wish. Everyone has the same right as I do, to do whatever they wish with the items they buy. I am guessing you are one of the self appointed "WOKE" loons who want to cancel people for the slightest infraction, change the English language and meanings of words and label things left and right even when your clueless about what any of it means. Why don't you people stop sticking your noses into everything someone else is doing and try doing something constructive and non-judgemental for a change? Probably too much like work for you.

I believe resellers are filling a gap in the economy by connecting people with the items that they want/need. For example, when it comes to vintage kitchen items, which is a lot of what I sell, they can be very hard to find. Someone in another part of the country might be looking for the broken creamer to match their china set and might not be able to find it locally. By finding that item and listing it, you're providing a service to those who would not have been able to purchase it otherwise.

They’d find fault if we pulled it out of the landfill too. We’re taking away from the seagulls who could use it line their nests 🤣 I absolutely loooove being a reseller. There’s nothing like receiving a message from someone who wanted to replace a favorite item that was broken and they found it in your store or someone found a piece of clothing they wore to a special event that made them feel beautiful. Ask any thrift store employee how much is thrown out. They rotate their items every month and dispose of them after. I shop at the last place they go before the landfill. It’s HEARTBREAKING what is thrown out. I’ll challenge anyone who thinks I’m taking from someone in need or I’m not providing a valuable service. Game on!

A few months ago a lady purchased a special edition item from my store. She sent me a message that her father had passed away and was looking for this type of item to decorate his wake service, but was unable to find it till she saw it in my store. A month ago a young lady bought a particular 2004 Starbucks cup from my store, she said her little sister had lost that exact design theme cup. She tried to find one for years because it reminded her of that special time of her life, and now she had it.
As a reseller and a buyer, I have come across items that I would never had thought I would own in my life. Bottom line: reselling is more than just making money. We get help people treat themselves to something that they need and/or is dear to them. We get to bring a smile to their faces and thus have some impact in the lives of people we may never meet in person, and bring usefulness to otherwise unwanted things.

When I started out reselling on eBay, I shopped at a well-known outlet store. They always had a published policy (In a frame on the check-out counter) that said they would not sell to resellers.... But they did. A group of resellers would rush in as the doors opened, and load-up on the day's new items. One customer, who could never get her item before the resellers, actually sued the store for not enforcing their own published policy!!! She WON! Resellers were told that they could no longer buy from that store! Credit cards were "flagged." I'm in Michigan, and soon after the ban on resellers, I was on vacation with the family. We decided to go to the same outlet store in Ohio. Not thinking, I paid for my purchase with my usual credit card. A few seconds after my card was swiped, a manager came flying out of a back office door to tell me that I wasn't allowed to purchase from that store either. My credit card information was, indeed, on a list of "DO NOT SELL TO THIS PERSON." Fortunately, I had signed and finalized the sale before they stopped it. (Now, several years later, some resellers are back in that store. In fact, when the store opened after the pandemic, a manager ASKED me to come in and make a bulk purchase so they could free up some space in the stock room. That was a GREAT HAUL!!)

I know people often dont understand how one can re-sell "used" clothing but I think it just is something not everyone will understand and that is fine. I feel that reselling really helps not only yourself but other businesses you are buying from and it also allows things to be recycled and reused through resell. I also am very happy I found RUclipsrs who encourage and support each other in this business and community.
P.S. You made a very excellent point about the emotional attachment people have towards clothes and not other items. I can give an example, I am a RN and I wear scrubs to work. I had two pairs of Figs scrubs that were in colors I no longer could wear at work and these colors happened to be discontinued colors worth a good amount of money. so I decided to re-sell them online in my store. They literally sold within minutes! My co worker heard that I re-sold Figs scrubs and thought it was very "Gross" because I am reselling a pair of scrubs I wore even though they were in excellent condition and disinfected and washed. He couldn't wrap his head around it. Not everyone will understand how some items are able to be re-sold and that is okay.

She said they should go to the back of the line so they can choose first. I told her that in the end they leave hundreds of dollars to the library, where most of the other people leave with just a handful of books, if that. How would the library survive without this kind of help. Isn't that the whole point? I, myself don't scan books I buy books that do not have ISBN #, some don't even have copyrights. No matter what, we are helping the shops, libraries, families of estates, etc. How is this wrong? Let them think what they want.

Speak on it 👏🏽! Everything you said is on point! My son is a sneaker reseller and I’m just getting into the hard-goods reselling business. People just like to have something to complain about in my opinion, and they like to hate on successful people. Keep doing what you’re doing and putting out your great content. There ‘s way more than enough items to go around for everyone!🥰💕

Thank you Ashley for this video. I totally agree that some people judge us for being resellers, but I think we are not only helping our families with extra income but also doing all the footwork for someone that in these times doesn’t want to go out to the stores and malls. Plus we are keeping a lot of stuff from going to the landfills. We are resourceful and resilient. 💕

I think the #1 contribution of resellers is reallocation of goods onto a global marketplace. It's even more valuable to people who live in areas where things hard to get, which is alot of places right now. We create more jobs for shipping carriers as well.

I agree to a point. It's aggravating to go to a store and find that something you're looking for is completely sold out. I had made a tribute Christmas tree for my grandmother that had just passed. The ornaments I was looking for at Hobby Lobby was completely sold out. I travel extensively for work and since I was unable to find it at any of the local (30 minutes o less drive) Hobby Lobby stores, I stopped in 16 different stores within a 120 mile radius on my work travels with little luck. Hobby Lobby Online was completely out as well. But I did find them on resale sites. The original price was $7.99, and the 50% off sale was going at the time. I found them on resale sites for prices ranging from $16 (lowest I found) to $34 (at the highest) This was absolutely ridiculous! Buying stores out of items (especially around the holidays) to force people to buy them from a reseller at outrageous prices if they want/need them is ridiculous and shameful.

I went to a mom and pops thrift store and i was looking at video games in their glass case and asked if i could see them out of the case. He asked what systems i had and i told him iu collect some and resell others and he told me that he would rather me be on welfare rather than reselling to help pay my bills. I am talking about $3.00 video games here. Keep up the great content Ashley!

Resellers do the leg work for people. Much like a designer who sources decor for a client or a builder sources material for a house. Reseller shops for a living technically. I resell at a booth, I decorate our flip houses, and I build new houses, all rolled up into one. Resellers provide a service to the customers. It is a great occupation to be in.

Most people in this world don’t want to get up early on Saturday to go to the yard sales. They don’t want to dig through the thrift stores looking for cool stuff (it isn’t easy). We do that for them! We do the dirty work so others can conveniently purchase a rare item straight from their phone. Personally, I think what we do is cool awesome!! Great video!

We haven't had any of these comments *yet*. 😂Thrift stores would lose revenue if they ever prevented resellers from buying. One of the employees at Goodwill told us they don't recycle anything at their location - including cardboard.

Omg! So GOOD, Ashley! There is a BST I purchase items from and the owner’s team tells me she doesn’t want me to do videos there because it’s reselling. 1) I give her A LOT of business, but 2) it JUST dawned on me she is doing the exact thing. Her whole business is based on buying clothes to resell. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ The stigma is so frustrating. You are spot on! Love this video. ❤️

I can’t tell you how many trash pickers and metal scrappers come to my neighborhood every week. I say good for them! It’s not going to the landfill and they are either using it, getting money for it, or even possibly donating to charities.
