Many also came after the 1960s from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka etc and settled in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. So these minorities have been here for a minute. They came from all over, and represent different regions, languages, ethnicities and religions. For example: Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam and even Christianity. There’s a lot of internal divisions. But in recent years it seems like many under educated Indians from specific areas and poorer economic backgrounds have been arriving to fill labour shortages. This is the Canadian government’s tactic imo. India also has a crazy racist right wing government since 2013 (The BJP). It is a Hindu supremacist government and fundamentally anti-Muslim. India has the worlds second largest Muslim Population after Indonesia, and is often targeted. The BJP has and continues to commit mass human rights violations against Indian Muslims, Sikhs, lower castes, women, etc. So a lot of that toxic Hindutva ideology has been imported over the last 15 years (see modi government). Not all brown folks dislike black people; but there are a lot of prejudices held by the right wing oriented folks who were already racist back home in India. Also note, many south Asians like other immigrant groups that come here stick to each other like glue. Most south Asians born here have nothing in common with the newcomers, and actually feel marginalized.
