2:50 You said it yourself. You have a strong prescription for nearsightedness. You're an outlier and you want HTC to solve your problem when there is already a solution at hand, but it's the one thing you don't want to do -- wear contact lenses when you're using the headset. It is probably the best...and only solution you're going to get. So you either do that or live with an out of focus image or pick another headset that will better accommodate your glasses.
They really made that man stand there in full costume and makeup to demo the music conductor game lmao! That has me howling with laughter for some reason! 🤣
Sucks that it's just outside your prescription. But I think the adjustable dials are a great idea and the way to go for more expensive headsets. That way if I'm sharing with another nearsighted person, they can adjust the dial and still use it without glasses for max immersion
@@bandicootwarped7905 He's just making a quick hands on review mentioning the pros and cons people might experience. Should he ignore the fact that the diopter won't work for a lot of people just so people don't call him a whiner?
Yeah idk. I feel like stuff like this is doing plenty if 99% of people can use it. If not, the solution already exists, it’s contact. I get some people might not like it, but it’s impossible to be able to accommodate 100% of people.
I wonder how much harder it is to increase the dial from -6 to -10? 4% of people in the US have nearsightedness over -6 in at least one eye. I think accommodating 96ish% of people is pretty damn good. If its negligibly difficult to be inclusive of that 4% population then please put the effort in.
another issue with relying on diopter is there's a lot of us with astigmatism and the diopter won't correct for our cylindrical abberation, so we'll still need inserts
With eye and face tracking (and also HTC's previous proven track record for doing those really well) and the extreme light weight, I think this is going to be really popular for the PC social VR crowd. The weight reduction is going to be super great for long-term comfort, especially with big head movements when dancing. The removable back-strap is also a really great feature for this, reducing the weight even more, and allowing people to DIY or get 3rd party head straps designed to give the most stability and comfort. Really keeping a close eye on this one
Prescription inserts are the best option. Once they are in you never have to mess with them again. You just take off your glasses and put your headset on.

@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 except there are gamer headsets with equal specs that are going to perform just as well and increasing the specs in this regard still only contributes to the better experience in both of these aspects for Everything overall.
This headset has slightly worse resolution and 90 hz instead of 120 hz. However, it does not require outside cameras or a PC. That’s why it “gimps on specs.” It’s not meant to be hooked up to a PC at all times. Because believe it or not, most people don’t have VR-ready PCs. Be honest, there’s very few games on the market that have any reason to need much more than what the Vive Pro 2 offers, and most games barely even need that.
As a VR developer using the Quest 2 I considered prescription inserts, but having to take my glasses on and off every time I iterate on my game seemed like too big of a hassle. Being able to wear glasses inside the Quest 2 is really nice in my opinion. And I've tested it with contact lenses and tightening it as much as possible to my face VS having it basically as far away from my face as possible while wearing glasses and the difference in field of view is very small. Even though I would probably have longer play sessions without glasses if I could, it would be nice to have the option of wearing glasses in all VR headsets for those that require or prefer it, and I imagine all it requires from headset manufacturers is just to allow for a little bit more adjustability, adjustability that maybe needs to be there regardless to accompany all types of faces? Even selling some type of facial interface adapters as extra would be fine by me.
on your comment that you have to put on and remove your glasses every time you make a change, the appeal in this new form of standalone headset is that the AR will get good enough that you won't have to remove the headset to do your changes. I can understand that this is not yet to this point, but this is the first step toward that future.
I'm a designer and use VR as part of my design process and I am writing to confirm that it is in fact a HUGE hassle to take glasses on and off in the middle of a work session. The Quest 1 had the perfect fit around my glasses, but the Quest 2 facial interface is too narrow so I had to get Rx inserts for the Quest 2. It's annoying enough that I use the Quest 1 for work and the Quest 2 for non-work.
Vive says, "The headset that set the VR industry on fire"...I think of it more like the headset that made people, "DAMN THATS EXPENSIVE!". Oculus did one thing that will be FOREVER unforgettable, they sold a quality item for an affordable price. VIVE has no concept of that.

Honestly its really frustrating that CNET sends the one guy who couldnt even demo the products because he didnt want to wear contacts. If your being paid to cover VR headsets maybe plan ahead - really poor coverage on cnets part here for going through with these "hands on" demos anyways.
I do somewhat agree with you, just bit more tactful. I don't want the 3 min video about someone complaining about personal eye problems when the general consumer want to know more about the product. Many people are making leaps to VR in 23, and half the video wasn't relevant to me. Maybe just should of added this issue as a quick snippet near the end.
I feel like unless you want what premium features it has to offer, you just can't beat the Quest 2. It's even got the same chip powering the Vive XR. As much as I hate the Meta name and crap, they do have some great software on their platform and performance no different to others. If anything now they got a Quest Pro with a newer chip, Meta will likely take the lead.
Nah the glasses thing ruins the whole headset, u need to be able to use it with glasses, prescription changes yearly, so what would u do after a few years toss it? U cant even sell it because of the prescription
I keep hearing "could potentially", "should be able to", "will one day blah blah blah". C'mon Apple. Show them how it's done. Make this novelty USEFUL. Disrupt again.
I know VR is still in a relatively primitive state to its potential, but I would say it's strongly in the interest of any VR hardware maker to cater for as wider prescription range as they possibly can given how much people's eyesight varies ... even without glasses! After all, the eyes are the main window as to how immersive this stuff can feel to the brain.
I'll admit I was all in on VR. In 2016 bought an HTC Vive, then when the Vive Pro came out, I sold my old one and got that. The wireless adapter came out, and I got it. I upgraded to the Index controllers, and dedicated a whole room to the Vive. Now? I have not touched my Vive in about a year, maybe more. I don't believe in VR anymore. There needs to be better content because the content is all the same. It's literally the same content and games being remade over and over for the past 6 years. Also, you're just standing there, maybe turning around, but standing there. I'd rather walk 12 miles than stand in one spot for a long time. I'd rather be comfortable and play a good game with a good story over yet another stand there and shoot, stand there and solve a puzzle, stand there and do whatever. I gues I could set for yet another rail shooter. It's uncomfortable to wear it, it's uncomfortable to use it, it's niche, and the individuals who want to dedicate time and money to make content for it are shrinking by the minute. Why Sony is making a PSVR 2 is beyond me. I'll give it to VR for still putting up a fight, but it's 3D TV IMO. But all these companies that spent millions to billions on it can't afford to give up what will never be what people thought it would be in 2016.
I also bought HTC Vive in 2016 and still have it. Haven't used it lately due to some reasons, like not enough space to really enjoy it fully(!) but I have had a lot of fun with the system before. Especially when playing for example Half-Life: Alyx. It is quite amazing. If I ever get enought money (and space to move :) again, I could consider buying a new set - hopefully not needing much more PC power I already have - so if the system has a standalone mode, that would be great too. I have yet to see this video, so I will do it now:) Cheers...
you've most likely haven't touched the Vive for WAAAY longer than just a year, new VR games aren't really rail shooters anymore. Have you tried these yet? Until You Fall Asgard's Wrath Ironman VR Espire 2 Sairento (PCVR) Half Life Alyx there's more but I forgot the rest, there are also upcoming ones like Attack on Titan, Behemoth, Hellsweeper, Undead CItadel and Return to Nangrim.

Why doesn't he just wear contacts or get lasik?
Would be nice to then switch to someone who's not legally blind for the clarity review.
THIS IS LEGIT A COPY OF THE QUEST PRO, AND THE CONTROLLERS ARE COPYING THE QUEST 2 OML 😂😂😂
Please no fresnel lenses! This is a deal breaker.
lol commercially stuck at 110 degrees fov for 10 years now.
as someone with weird eyesight too. Just wear contacts I don't see the fuss at all. You are supposed to be testing the product for the masses not for your unique use set. way to blow the one job you had which was experiencing the product just because you don't wanna touch your eyeball. Grow up!
Ram : 12 BG , wait, what?! 🤣
Can you wear contact lenses ?
Try being a left-hander in the PC market with no support for default left-handed control schemes. Now being left handed AND needing glasses. *sigh.
Sucks to suck
I feel like unless you want what premium features it has to offer, you just can't beat the Quest 2. It's even got the same chip powering the Vive XR. As much as I hate the Meta name and crap, they do have some great software on their platform and performance no different to others. If anything now they got a Quest Pro with a newer chip, Meta will likely take the lead.
Yes, but other will start to close in. Like psvr 2 for example. It will be a much tighter race and that's good.
Nah the glasses thing ruins the whole headset, u need to be able to use it with glasses, prescription changes yearly, so what would u do after a few years toss it? U cant even sell it because of the prescription
Like nothing you've ever seen? Maybe put your glasses on.
I wear glasses too.. but -8.00 holy moly😂
I wholeheartedly concur!
Did they get it a better headphone quality and mic or is it the same as the HTC 1?
12 Bigagytes?
Just wear contacts
Nice story.
Until You Fall
Asgard's Wrath
Ironman VR
Espire 2
Sairento (PCVR)
Half Life Alyx
there's more but I forgot the rest, there are also upcoming ones like Attack on Titan, Behemoth, Hellsweeper, Undead CItadel and Return to Nangrim.
110 degree fov = horrible
Just get a second set of glasses that will fit AR and VR hoods as well as bike and motorbike helmets scuba masks etc. At what point in your life did you lose your common sense
I dont understand the hype whats the fov? Those small lenses dont look impressive i dont care what other tech it has if it doesnt have the basic things for a good experience as good or better than other headsets ill pass just like i did when the flow was released. This really seems not much better than the flow to me
Nah they are not gonna solve the glassproblem for a small groupe of people dude, just wear contacts.
Right, low res, low refresh rate. Nothing we've ever seen. Journos that we deserve
1920x1920 isn't low res. 90Hz is industry standard.
@@versegen2 1920 isnt low res for ppl with bad vision
even cheappo Quest2 has 120hz, Index is 144hz, upcoming Crystal is 165hz, MeganeX is 120hz
you'll see sales numbers. hope HTC will recover from this
Kept watching as I was under the impression I was gone see several tests. In end nothing except a wait for full review. Very baity.
Dude why are you complaining about your eyesight we need someone who understand vr
L
I'm 10.2 far sided... Oh crap 😂
Get contacts
Psvr 2 looks much more comfortable for glasses wearers
2:50 just wear contacts lol
12 BG of RAM 😂
1500 € ....????🤣🤣🤣👍
who wear prescription glasses nowadays? It's so 2022
I can’t imagine being that guy who has to dress like that to help other people play a vr demo

Bro still going out with a mask on 💀
There's still an ongoing pandemic. Many places like conventions still require masks.
