its 1am i just soldered my first time. i was one shy on green so i made it all blue, wow, i must say one of the coolest things i ever did behind a speedo. thank you so much for showing me how to do it, it came out better then i thought and costed me a fraction of the cost to get a new one or pay someone to do it. 33 years old first time soldering tiny blue led lights. thank you now i have to try and sleep.....

Amber low fuel and shift bulb type LEDs can be replaced using the same 1210 SMD LEDs. The cut corner side is the ground. The bulb type has two pins inside, a fat one and a thin one - the thin side is positive. As mentioned, LEDs have a dedicated power terminal and ground.

Just started following your page, first off I gotta say the 05 Zx6r came out sick. I have an 06 myself and after seeing that one I’d love mine to look like that. Second, thank you so much for this video. I’ve hated my orange gauges but now they look like a whole new setup. I didn’t do the same colors, but without the tutorial I probably wouldn’t have got it done. So thanks again!

I'm currently changing mine out on a 05 zx10r same dash. Changed the 6 middle LEDS, put it back together to check and the new LEDS work fine. Now my LCD is reading funny. Instead of displaying 0 it's a mix of 3 and 0.
Edit found the issue. I didn't have it back together 100% the 4 metal tangs all weren't bent and only 1 screw on the circuit board. Don't rush! Great video.

You can get finer tips for that re soldering unit you have. I have the same one. Another suggestions would be to use soldering paste. Then you can just place the LED and use hot air to solder. Saves applying heat to the board. Most mistakes people make are putting too much heat to the board and frying something

Wicked! I think if I was doing this I'd mix it up a bit; change the LED at the top of the tacho to red, the next one amber, then two green, and the bottom two blue; the diffusion and gradient would make the range go from blue idle, cyan fast-idle, green cruising, yellow at the start of the power, amber for the power, and red for the limiter
And then like. White or magenta for the speedo I guess 😂

So I did the exact same colors but I guess my soldering gun was a bit too hot or maybe touched something on accident, all the colors work but when you turn the switch off I still have like 2 of the LEDs staying on. Really don't know what to do other than putting a kill switch on for the battery or ordering new internals.

    1) How bad is the bleed of the blue into the green? I'm planning on doing white for the whole cluster with the exception of the LED near redline, which I want to do in red.
    2) Do you happen to know what could cause my fuel light to not go on like yours does?
I pulled the fuel pump last weekend to diagnose/fix another issue, but didn't think to check into my fuel light issue. I'm not sure what part is the sensor anyways (05 636) on the pump assembly and there isn't any great info I've seen online. I've never seen the light go on in the 4ish years I've owned the bike, and just use the trip to track mileage but would love to have a damn light

great vid. I dont even have a 636, and i clicked. haha. I do a lot of SMT stuff, and if you dont have hot tweezers, and if you're not reusing the LEDs, you can just us a high quality flush cutter to clip the leads. then drag the remaining leads off the pads with the soldering iron. its much safer since you wont risk pulling up the pads. Which are a bitch to fix and be still be reliable. You can load up a bunch of solder on the tip before hand (helps you get the joint to flow), it takes more dwell time with a dry tip, which can damage the traces and pads... Also try a wedge tip. Way better heat soak on LED leads. Hope it helps... ALSO thanks for the vid... now I wanna try this on my drz's cluster. haha

You could have torn pads off the PCB, due to copying this guys technique, You never EVER want to "Pull" on a device the way he did these LED diodes, you can easily damage the traces/pads on the PCB. You may have also just put the diodes in wrong, they are polarized (meaning one side is + and One is - ) if you reverse them, they will not light up. Want expert Soldering techniques? Northridge Fix, Louis Rossmann, The Cod3r, Hugh Jefferys, all great channels of people who do micro soldering on Mac books/Laptops and Modern Graphics cards and such. Even in all white, the numbers and tachometer bars still show up clear!

9:15 EEeeewww, Doing that the way you are is going to result in tearing the pads or traces off the pcb. GO check out a soldering video or two. Northridge Fix, The Cod3r , Louis Rossmann. All have tons of great videos. Never PULL like you did here, If you have to even use force, the item you are trying to pull is not heated enough. Especially on SMD's (surface mounted) With other things that use anchor ground points , (Like an HDMI or USB port for example) youll find using a heat gun or hot air station to be more beneficial and less likely to damage something.

Wouldn't flux and a hot gun be better for those tiny l.e.d,s?

Hells yes. Prying up on one end like that can rip the pad off on the other end.
