The all-new Ford GT was developed with one, singular purpose: Win the 2016 24 Hours of LeMans in the LM-GTE category, on the 50th anniversary of beating Ferrari in that historic race in 1966. While the previous-generation Ford GT was a true roadgoing supercar, this one is clearly a homologation race car that you can drive on the street. With 647 HP and a downforce package that would make an Indycar team owner jealous, the Ford GT is one of the most exciting cars on the road today at any price.
Ford Special Vehicle Team provided the vehicle, insurance and a tank of fuel for this review.

Short of the slowing down behind traffic, that Ford GT was in constant flight. Straights or twisties. Holy fuck it's authentically fast, and it does it so effortlessly.

@@ryanm2084 it sounds exceptional with a proper exhaust, the factory exhaust doesn't do the car justice. It has an extremely beefy low tone, especially for a V6. But hey, it's American, we make everything sound beefy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Gotta wonder when the cops are gonna start hanging out on these roads with all these videos from all kinds of youtubers. But then again i'm in VA, we have the most strict police when it comes to speeding. (Thankfully in Norfolk they are a bit more laid back than Virginia "Stickuprear" Beach)
@@VBshredder I live in NC and travel through VA often for business and agree with you. The VA highway patrol is hyper-crazy about getting speeders . I've seen them hiding in their speed traps on the back roads where you see another car once every 10 minutes. I've never had a ticket in your state but only because I watch my speed on the highway very carefully.

For those wondering the speeds, when you come out of third gear in Ford's eco boost at red/near redline you're doing 97mph...
So he was taking most of those turns at 2 to 3 times the speed limit... with zero wheel chatter... with zero skidding... and with almost zero squaring of the turns, and at street legal trim levels and ride heights, meaning the car isnt even remotely near its potential in this video.

I'm 99% sure that Wrangler was the same guy who stopped and snapped pictures at the beginning(5:00) when the GT was parked alongside the road. He probably predicted that he would be passed at some point.

Do you want to know the power of a One Take? I honestly hated this car, I've seen every review of it, and I still never cared for it.
But listening to Matt finally explain what this car really is gained me a new appreciation for it, The reasons for the engine choice, it was never designed to be the greatest road car, the old one was already that, what this car is, is a return to the 80's, a literal homologation racecar.
I've never really seen the car being properly driven without all the flashy camera angles that could make a bicycle look fast and dramatic, Seeing it from a single camera point, god damn is this car fast! The way it stays perfectly flat in the corners, the acceleration!
I used to think it was overpriced, now I think it's underpriced, It's McLaren price, but I honestly feel like you get more with this car, and I'm a McLaren fanboy. Excellent video Matt.

@kevn99 you have to remember that engines internally upgraded with GT3 turbo chargers. Your ecoboost probably sounds great! You also don't have a full carbon tub in your 150
It covers ground so quickly! The straights seem like nothing. And it just sticks in the corners. Sounds decent too for a V6.

Saw one of these when they came out on Woodward Ave in Metro Detroit and fell in love. It took up the entire lane, was lower than my Focus ST and I could hear it from 3 cars back. What a car.

People have criticised the sound, but I think that's mostly just the 'It's not a V8' crowd.
Sounds fantastic to me - a genuine, high-performance sound, rather than something designed to sound good.

I was a bit 'meh' about this car, but that has changed in just over 23 minutes (actually, it took under 4).

The entire industry is better off for them having released this supercar statement. Glued to the road, sounds wonderful, and delivers on it's minimalistic focus. Congrats on securing a test in it.

In a time of almost comically loud and popping exhaust notes, this one is actually really refreshing. Purposeful.
Yeah, thought it was cool at first. Now I think all the exhaust popping noises are getting annoying. Although the turbo farts on the GTI are still enjoyable.

CMDR Boom Its very obvious he is speeding. Some shots (many) you could even measure the distance travelled and the time he takes to travel it. All you need is the car's length and you can calculate his speed based on dist/time in the video. If the state REALLY wanted to nail him for speeding this video is all the proof they would need. They wont, but they could. Doesnt mean I didnt enjoy watching it though. Fantastic car but thw ZR1 is at least in "affordable" territory for upper middle class. This car is strictly a toy for the rich, most of whom wont even drive it much if at all.

I had an Ecoboost expedition as a tow rig for a while, it was really awful unfortunately. Drank more gas than a V8, spent more time at the dealer than actually driving and it struggled with pretty much anything heavier than a bicycle. Hauled ass though.

If you know the gearing and tyre sizes, you could easily calculated the speed by ripping the audio from this video. It always amuses me when people blur the gauge cluster in their youtube videos. The math can be done.

Lol what? the only gt40 that didnt impress at le mans was the 2004-08 model, everyone other one has either been best in class, was likely to be best in class (accident/unexpected malfunction), or was dam close. The GT40 has and I think always will be a legend.

Neale these aren't drag cars. Track times are what matters.
Those cars are more about track performance and Endurance Racing. 0-100 matters no where there. Ford has proven the car there (even when it was a bit fishy how they made it happen) and McLaren has proven nothing in that case since the F1 won LeMans decades ago. In Endurance a few teams tried McLaren but wihout great sucess yet. Loeb changend his Endurance Teams back from McLaren to Audi within one season because they are not there yet for that kind of racing.
Yea. OK - The P1 is faster there but in real racing it would not stand a chance with that setup. Not even the Track Version. They make sense for a hot lap but thats why easier to achieve than a Endurance setup for 6 to 24 hour racings. Different kind of cars and for that hard to compare. - But i got what you want to say.

This wasnt just a One Take, this was a half hour exercise in automotive media perfection
I could really get a sense of how structurally solid this car was when going over bumps and while in corners. It really looked and felt and sounded like a racecar far more than any other one take. The suspension seemed perfectly damped as well and I was impressed with how well it took the bumps at these ridiculous speeds. Best one take by far you really gave it the beans, nice.
That engine noise. Such a hard on. I was skeptical, now I am sold. Just wish it wasn't 450k. Amazing car.

Fantastic to see someone driving the new GT really hard. Most videos are from owners who think driving around the city and a few secs of going fast is hard core. Now the GT makes sense to me.
I've got a family connection to the original GT40 and this video makes me prouder than it should! This car is off the hook and what a fantastic video as well!

OMG nobody I've seen driving this before has ever done it justice. Damn, it's not necessarily the power of this car which isn't unique, it's just the sheer SPEED that this thing corners at which allows you to carry a way higher average speed while driving.
