I was at this concert and am still equally moved by watching the video many years later. A moving iconic political and human story of the truly important moments that helped shape Australia. Artists, activists and politicians coming together. There is hope yet!
Why doesn’t this comment get more likes?
Here’s one
We charge you to get out! Hard dirt was his floor.2022 Stand up for what you believe as a people Australia your a Great Continent.
One of the most important songs of human existence.
RIP Gough and Vincent. I still get goosebumps when I encounter that photo at the NGA.
Full of pride, full of tears...always was, always will be.
Kev and Paul, no words for them. Just amazing. I liked the young musicians and their faces, telling style and raising fingers while singing.
Beautiful on so manly levels The story/battle is similar around the world for indigenous people, then and now....
This is just stunning, what a story in a beautiful song, what a powerful symbol of passing a handful of dirt. Just awful and heartfelt in equal measure. What a way to wrap up a show.
What an amazing group of people on that stage with Kev, I wish I could have had the talent to be one of them....the symbol of that handful of dirt is not to be overlooked. I cannot believe that this has only been viewed 98,000 times....it should be our National Anthem !!
thank-you Gough. A giant amongst men.
Gough stole wages from Aboriginal Protection Board to start DoCS, on one hand passing soil through the hand, on another taking those funds to prop up the welfare state
cool clip two blokes with guitars sitting around a camp fire telling a story but as Paul Kelly does it turns into the whole camp on their feet singing love Pauls story telling
On old car seats!
This song has so much more meaning to it with Dan Sultan performing with Kev. You could see Dan was nervous, then pan to Kev...
Can we make this our national anthem?
Alex Jbf and spread the words to the world
and ffs get that stinkin jack off the flag!
Lol
American blacks and all indigenous people worldwide can learn from this!
Can't be worse.
So bloody beautiful. Well done all
What an inspiring story!!!! Sovereignty!!!
Best version I've seen!!!
My sentiments exactly!
great song with powerful message.
A small seed to grow a great awareness of our near past and perhaps a way toward a mutual and fruitful future together. Thank you Kev, Paul and gang. Sherrin Adam...
21 st December brought me ere!
great leadership paul & kev .those younger singers and the band have caught the spirit and are smoking hot, dripping with passion as they should be because it's such an important iconic great aussie song
I love this
So proud to be australian
from listening to this ,i've just realised and want to salute how good that backing band is . they created a fantastic masterful foundation for the vocalists to launch from . you guys whoever you are need to pat yourself on the back .bloody fantastic .THANKYOU
i hope you realise what you've been a part of .one of the greatest ,most important ,significant songs to come out of australia. you've gone down in history.
what's the venue? anybody know
soooooooo gooooooooood!!!!!!
This song is very catchy...I love it
I love this song and l hope everyone has a wonderful New Year :)
Huge part of the Australian story this. Native Title was the means to redress some of the inequity from the invasion - a compromise for sure. Maybe one day Treaty Day will replace Australia Day and true reconciliation can begin.
Don't confuse yourself with the significance of Australia day and a treaty day. Both are important to a lot of Australians in different ways, to replace one with the other only serves to separate and divide Aussies even more. When people are divided the people dont win.
Australia Day is significant but only to people who come here from other countries. Change the date so it includes all of us. As a Noongar man I say if you want to celebrate that date that is up to you and I respect that as that date is important to people who descend from other nations. Australia Day should included everyone and represent the coming together and reconcilitation of our past, celebration of the present and the direction of acceptance.
Native title is not land rights.
I am personally sorry. I didn't do anything wrong, but I am sorry. Aboriginal people deserve a fair go. Stop the racism, start the reparations. I cannot undo the past, but I can be part of the future. All Australians cannot lose such an asset as our past!!!!
Respect...love pk
Fantastic

that is Missy Higgins, famous singer in Australia
should be the national anthem. I miss Gough.,wha a time.......... What do we do now??? Ball game has changed considerably
Even now it is moving.
I LOVE this song ....... How true xx
It's not about claiming sovereignty. Sovereignty has never been ceded.
How can Britain claim sovereignty?

Defenantly would be great if this was our national anthem
So, no harm in giving the lawful authority back to the people it belongs to. Now that we have prevented another country from taking over.
When we finally ditch the monarchy this shoufd be our nationaal enthem!
Greetings from Turkey.
Well isnt Lord Vestey with his plummy voice a real charmer? Now was it on his cattle stations that the British exploded their 14 atomic bombs between 1952 and 1963 ? Oh no they didnt explode them on HIS land but on our Australian land, We should explode 14 A bombs on Westeys ancestral lands
Proper pommy ponce
Vincent should be Australia’s next saint
doing this song for naidoc week at school im lead signer so scared
And Gough!
There's no argument any more is there? We all get it now don't we?
Does someone know when this was recorded? I like that Carmody changed the second last verse to mention Whitlam specifically as some people are unfamiliar with the story, but is there some reason that the verse was changed? A Whitlam event of some kind? Anniversary? Too early for a memorial service.

Such a shame that we voted 'No' in 2023 - history will judge us. This song gives me hope, still, for a brighter future. The effects of Lingiarri will echo yet.
All but one of the remote polling stations in the Lingiari electorate voted Yes.
I know a child of Vesti, What a terrible heritage.
Australia was stolen from the Orginal Peoples of this land. The Crown of England planted their flag here and called Australia "TERRA NULLIUS". Terra Nullius means there were no inhabitants living in Australia! Even though at the time of British settlement there were at least 350 Murray tribes living on their own tribal lands across Australia. Then the Great British Imperial Regime started genocide against all native people. Shot and killed them, poisoned their waterholes, raped their woman and children, took the children away, massacred the Murray tribal leaders everywhere - and still "the stolen generation" is happening. This genocide is ongoing too - 27 Original Murray people have died of the C19vaxx in the Northern Territory where they have been forced to be jabberooed. In the last two months. How many Murray murders and deaths are we never hearing about? The MSM is still covering the genocide up. Change is ESSENTIAL.
Well done Kev Carmody. You are truly amazing and such a great artist, thank you for your commitment to your people.

Far out sadness
,
A lucky country! Could have been Japan or Germany running the show
But wasn't.
Why isn't the red haired lady mentioned in the title..? She has the most prominent voice, if not the second most prominent voice. LoL I don't know who she is but geez, she is important within the song.
Sorry but I just don't understand..?!?!??!?
Great song though..! Love it..!!!!
Ha ha but honestly.., WHO is she..?!?!? I really want to know. :)
Her name is Clare Bowditch
from the spirit land ,ozstralia
who is the woman that sings at 3:11?? she got an amazing voice..
Missy Higgins
Missy higgins look her up on RUclips
Give me a clue. When was this ? On my Paul Kelly learning curve. Toured Oz in 2005 but never heard of him or the land rights issue.
This is from a Kev Carmody DVD from 2008 performance. Cannot Buy My Soul.
But Paul Kelly released this song in 1993
Who is the singer at 2:14? Is there a list of all the performers in this video?
Looks a bit like Clare Bowditch
What happened?
Maybe 2008
yea must admitt by the 7 min i was done.
Interestingly, the privileged always seem to come up with scare tactics.
clare bowditch is so average this and missy higgins taking the verse right after makes it seem soo much worse
So what? I f you were murdered by a German, it would be OK 'cos you could have been murdered by a Martian? How about I take your car before a Scottish person steals it? I know it wouldn't be legally mine straight away--how about if I keep it for 200 years?
Many not manly
