VATHAKUZHAMBU is a very special delicacy and Kuzhambu type that is one the main dishes in a South Indian Thali.
Shantha Paati and her son Prathap Raghavan teach you the most traditional & authentic way of preparing it...
INGREDIENTS :-
Tamarind - gooseberry size
Water - 2 cups
Drumstick - 8-10 pieces
Hing - small gooseberry size
Mustard seeds - 1.5 tsp
Methi seeds - 1.5 tsp
Toor Dal - 1.25 tsp
Chana dal - 1.25 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Red Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
All in All Rasam powder - 3 tsp
Gingelly oil - 1/4 cup or 3 tablespoon
Red chillies - 3
Tomato -1 (Optional)
Jaggery - small gooseberry size
Salt - to taste

We lived in KR kovil street in West Mambalam during my childhood. We had so many Brahmin friends there. I still remember the flavour of vathakuzhambu I have tasted that time. 20 years have passed we moved to madurai. I couldn’t find any authentic recipe like this anywhere. And after seeing this video I tried out this recipe and it came out very well. Thanks for sharing this paati.

Excellent recipe. Loved the Tamil and the English translation really helped. I don’t know Tamil, and found this a great way to learn Tamil. Great mother son team. He is so respectful. Am,a and son should publish a book.

First time visiting patti’s samayal, excellent. I did vella seedai following patti’s instruction which came out really well. I love the way patti describes about stuffs which is quite interesting ❤️

Nevertheless, there is no doubt that the cooking was really nice ... but beyond that the first and last of the video was eye catching for me ! Bliss to my ears with Shravan’s singing Nd at last bliss to my eyes seeing Paati feeding Saadam to everyone: she have really shown us , a small gesture can make big difference in us.. she was not just feeding rice , instead she was spreading love .
