    A number a ballads always give me goose bumps. This is one of those ballads. A very touching song. A number of different versions but all great. Rest in Peace lads.

    This song brings back so many memories. I grew up with the Wolfe Tones version, but this is beautiful and emotional, great voice.

      70 years ago when I was nine or ten my late father used to sing it for me i never forgot the words I sing it to this day .

    I'm sure Protestants were intimidated after the Treaty. Most of the Protestants in the South were landowners or otherwise more well off, so I don't think the Irish peasantry was eager for a bloodbath. The haves are usually protected. Even when they lose. The Ulster statelet was deliberately conceived to be an enclave of Protest hegonemy. No one seems to remember willie Brady. Looked great in one of those fisherman's sweaters.
