    As a past owner of 4 Mercedes and 6 BMW's what you see when a Lexus is coming towards you is a reliable vehicle that will be on the road a lot more than in the shop. I love the other brands mentioned, but Lexus is on another level regarding longevity reliability, and repair cost.

      To each their own. I have owned 3 BMW M cars, an Acura, 2 Lexus, 1 Porsche, 3 Hondas, 1 Subaru and my experience….drum roll…my BMWs were the most reliable even as heavily modified ones. And one of my BMWs is the dreaded V10 M5 and shockingly, super reliable. Yes, in general Lexus is well known to be reliable, but not nearly as fun to drive as any of my BMWs or my Porsche. To each their own

    People really do not understand that LC is not a sports car. It's a grand tourer. If you want super responsive steering and rocket acceleration then buy Lamborghini or a gokart. This car is designed to enthusiastically flow for hundreds of miles, not to give you Formula 1 experience. This car deserved this video :)

    • @sports2hedz542
      @sports2hedz542 Год назад +13

      Jason's comment on the previous gen ('01-'10) SC430 is interesting, saying it was neither sporty nor beautiful (I personally think it's beautiful). It is certainly luxurious and never meant to be sporty. This was also a misunderstood Lexus as it was generally reviewed per it's name, Sport Coupé, rather than what it really was: a LC, Luxury Coupé. It has exceptional ride quality and the interior was exquisite for its original price point. The closed off wheel design is gorgeous and far ahead of its time. OEMs are damned either way because every journalist wants a two door vehicle to be a track superstar (and give poor reviews if it's not), but most consumers want the opposite. Therefore we as consumers get a distorted view of what we 'should' buy. I truely believe it's the journalists that have driven this crazy push for performance and horsepower and not the consumers. We are just along for the ride. I'm glad Jason at least came to his senses when reviewing the current gen LC. 👍👍👍

      Super focused sports cars are NOT great cars to drive. People that gawk over them the most are people who have never driven them. They are for the track not the road.
      That being said, I think a little more compromise could be made with this car without making it worse. Have a little more adjustable steering options, make the lower gears a little more sporty (while keeping those comfy cruising high gears), and brake by wire is just unnecessary

    • @amg863
      @amg863 6 месяцев назад

      The irony of someone claiming everyone else doesn't understand when you think people could just buy a go kart or a Lamborghini if this is not sporty enough.... 🤦‍♂️ I thought you were going to say a 6 series or an 8 series. Not a Lamborghini which has nothing in common with this car.

  • @michaellorenson2997

    You had me worried, Jason, but you got there in the end. The LFA is a garage queen with a killer engine; not something a luxury coupe customer would want to use every day. It's fast, it's impressive, and it's nearly useless. The LC500 is a relatively affordable Aston Martin competitor -- good call, bringing an Aston Martin into the frame -- with Lexus virtues. Driven the way owners will actually drive them, no performance differences will likely be apparent, but the Lexus ownership experience will almost certainly be _far_ better. I want one.

    I'm a convertible guy, love the open air experience and I live in Australia so we've got the weather for it. S sadly all of mine had been pretty unreliable, Alfas, Saabs, BMWs, etc. I inherited my father's 2004 LS430 back in 2012 after he passed away and kept it in the garage for years. In 2017 I sold my last Alfa Spider Convertible and intending to buy a new convertible I started using the LS430 as my daily stop-gap. I'm still driving the LS430 5 years later. The thing is incredible. Top of the line, no expense spared Lexus 'Statement Cars' are so well considered in every way that you find yourself marvelling at how enveloping and palatial they are. I've been seriously struggling to find a new Convertible that makes sense to me after my experience with an over 15 year old Lexus LS which is pretty embarrassing for most midrange luxury convertibles. However I've settled on the LC500 Convertible but in a couple of years, once the Covid price hike bubble is over and the first 2017 models start to depreciate significantly more I'll pick one up. It'll still be very expensive but it's the kind of car I'd be happy to drive for 10-12 years so the price isn't so unreasonable if I look at it as an investment for that period.

      @@stephencavanaugh8377 I genuinely think the RF Convertible is top 5 among all sports cars in terms of looks but I'm 6f4" and I tried testing driving one. Ever see that Simpson's episode where the really tall guy gets out of the tiny car? Yeah...
      LC500 meets all my needs and wants, only downside is the price but as I said I'll go Used and I'm happy to drive it for a decade so the price won't be quite so ridiculous.

    The first intelligent review of this car I’ve ever seen…it’s not competing with a C63, an M4, an RS5, or anything with a performance badge, it does what it’s designed to do and it executes it better than anything else on the market (at its price point) :)

    I know this video is a reupload of a 3-4 year old show, but it just made me realize how much of an opportunity Lexus had here to make a proper Vantage competitor. They should have made 2 versions of this car, one exactly how it is, and another to deliver on the sports coupe that everyone thought it was.

    Shame they couldn’t film one in red with that interior, which I feel is in-person one of the best looking cars of all time, from a luxury perspective.
    It’s interesting to go back and see how this car was taken to be a sports car at launch and therefore something of a failure. Viewed as a luxury GT and as the body has aged I love this car now (-8

    I had an LS when I test drove this and like your description, I was underwhelmed as I was expecting 911 performance with Lexus luxury. For that reason I did not buy it, although watching this review and your “what does your brand stand for” is spot on. I appreciate your perspective and had wonderful experiences with the 2 LS’s I’ve had. The latter was blank with the same interior color as your test car.

    Thank you for the review. I had a Porsche 993 and was thinking about returning to the brand with a 992. However, my perspective, on driving, has changed. I'm in cruising mode now. Besides if you spend a few days in the Palm Springs area it is amazing to see the number of SC's.
