Bite The Hand is about when fans get creepy and them being willing to "bite the hand that feeds them" (in response to someone who might say something like, "yeah, well, without fans you're nothing, so stop complaining"). they all have tooth tattoos based on this song that you can see on the cover of the new album. (they also all have another group tattoo: three of cups, which you can see in the film) for a long time I didn't like Me & My Dog because the line "I wanna be emaciated" felt too thinspo to me. Phoebe's talked about struggling with ED in the past and i think that's what a lot of the skeleton imagery is about too, which i have complicated feelings about. but then again i'm a huge Julien fan and she talks about a lot of SH-type things too, so your mileage may vary. Lucy is the one who changed the line to "i wanna be happy" in Letter To An Old Poet, because she said she feels like the things you say about yourself come true, like a spell. which makes me think of the end of Anti-Curse: "Writing the words / To the worst love song you've ever heard / An incantation like an anti-curse / Or even a blessing" Phoebe's verse in Souvenir has some foreshadowing to Punisher (specifically Halloween: "I hate living by the hospital / The sirens go all night") with the line "I always manage to move in / Right next to a cemetery / And never far from hospitals" my favorite part of Stay Down: "It's a half-life / It's a fallout / It takes so long for me to settle down / And when I finally do, there's no one else around / So I stay down..." i really relate to that. how hard it is to get comfortable in new places and relationships, and by the time you're more settled in and ready to open up, (it feels like) they've already checked out/moved on/gotten way closer with other people, so you're right back at the start again I love Salt In The Wound, the epic closer with the Julien guitar solo while Phoebe and Lucy goof around on stage and eventually pull her in. love the high notes, love the lyrics of Lucy's verse about this indecisive person who is impressed by her skill but indecisive about a relationship and keeps trying to find the logic behind her metaphorical magic tricks so he can be less impressed by how talented she is. In a way it reminds me of the guy from her song "Addictions" Ketchum, ID was recorded in one take!
