I self published a book recently about loneliness, but I wanted to focus around the contemporary world and the impact our changed way of socialization is having on us, including the effects of dating apps, living in share houses etc. Its called 'Electric Monolith'
Off the top of my head I would say One hundred years of solitude and The book of disquiet are the two books that encapsulate perfectly loneliness in very different ways to me ! Thank you for the video ❤
Another great one is Kokoro by Natsume Soseki. That book really captures what loneliness can do to a person. I'd only recommend it if you are in the right state of mind, that book is extremely heavy.
I am looking for more Booktubers that I might like (in the style of The Book Leo) and it led me here - so Hi :) I enjoy your natural calm style of talking about them
Unhinged characters, eg those in the books of Ottessa Moshfegh and Mona Awad. I find it fascinating to see how so many of these types of books are in the mainstream. I definitely need to read more!
@dohabeshir9405 have you read The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides? It’s a college novel that’s not dark academia and I think sort of more of what you’re talking about
Good list. "Ladies' Man" by Richard Price is brutal in this respect. And the short story collection "The Pugilist at Rest" by Thom Jones has this theme throughout. And then the obvious "Catcher in the Rye" and "Robinson Crusoe."
@@endezeichengrimm well, not really... The novel is finished and I've to do the proof reading before publishing it next month. And it's hard to look for a proofreader...
It seems like you’re more into fiction than nonfiction and I’ve found that this year I’ve gravitated more to non fiction. Would you consider making a video on your favorite non fiction books? I tend to be a mood reader in that when I’m hyper fixated on a topic I tend to want to read books on that topic. Right now I’m really into Saturday Night Live and bought two books on it. Do you find yourself making TBR lists or do you mainly read by mood? Love your videos!
Something I just thought of is the loneliness of a book like The Catcher in the Rye where Holden, in the wake of a trauma and sense of failure, seems lost wandering around NYC trying to find some kind of purpose. I think we’re all trying to find our meaning and purpose in the world every day so it’s fascinating to read how people go about that
thank you! it means so much that you like my videos! i’m definitely more into fiction but i’ve actually been reading more nonfiction this year. mostly essays and memoirs. once i have a solid list of recs, i definitely want to make a video! i’m also a mood reader! i used to make monthly tbrs but they’re a bit limiting. snl is a cool topic to read about
@ryn.reading felt inspired recently to make a booktube channel so if you’d like to hear me gush about snl for 20 minutes this is the ticket ruclips.net/video/Csz5ONPKnAg/видео.htmlsi=jddOpaJRG27miQiP
Please be careful not to mention spoilers without a warning. I recently started reading My Dark Vanessa after seeing it recommended in several BookTube videos, but none of them mentioned what you brought up. 📚✨ 🙏🏻🫶🏻
You'll probably hate this comment more than loneliness itself but you sort of look like a young Ayn Rand. The algorithm must agree with me in a way because in the right margin of stacked videos for this one there is one of her at the top. Then again, Ryn and Ayn are fairly close. Anyway...
I hope wherever you're, you're happy 🖤
Thank you for the recommendations. I also love to read sad books and listen to sad music because it weirdly brings me comfort.

The algorithm knows me, man. :-) Of course I don't need a book on loneliness. I'm in the movie.

ooh good ones! i haven’t read them but they’re both on my tbr!

No-one does sad and lonely like Kazuo Ishiguro. Try 'The Remains of the Day' or 'Never Let Me Go'.
Loved "The Remains of the Day"

wow compared to the queen herself, ty!
i really love finding books that have a similar theme to them. any specific themes you guys would want me to make a future video on?

maybe campus novels but not just dark academia, i want books about collage experience, fitting in, transitional phases, finding yourself you know

CANDLE DECOR IN THE WINE BOTTLE IS VERY COOL
Ah yes, Jane Eyre! The wildness of the moors is truly mirrored in the wildness of Heathcliff's character.
(Sorry, I couldn't resist)
NICE FIRST PICK; MORE JAPANESE WRITERS LIKE KAWABATA, DAZAI AND OTHERS ARE GREAT TOO.

I just bought the Joan Didion book you mentioned, I’m nervous and excited for it.
I'm writing a novel rn, where modern loneliness and 'otherness' are central to the story. But it's only 75% done so maybe October next year?
I'm currently writing a novel on loneliness
Is anyone helping you with it?

Really enjoyed this review/list ❤❤
your taste is beautiful and I love your approach to art...I think we would be such good friends haha that sounds weird but oh well..

Reviews and recommendations are generally bad place for spoilers. These belong to videos discussing specific novel.
