  • Let's take a look at this Fender Jaguar HH from the Blacktop Series, made in Mexico.
In this video I recorded a handful of demos to put this guitar through its paces and try getting a variety of tones from it. I also share my perspectives and opinions on this guitar & whether I think it's worth buying or not.
This is an older guitar from 2011. However, if you found it on the used market and aren't sure if it's any good, this video might help you make a purchase decision.
In this video, all demos are recorded entirely by me.

I have so much love for the Blacktop range. I regret selling my Jazzmaster, but managed to snag a blacktop strat and p bass over the years.

The blacktops are great! I wish fender would start releasing HH guitars with a fixed bridge again. I have the blacktop tele and I’m thinking about getting this one too.

If you open it up there actually isn’t a ground wire going to the output jack. They ground to the volume pot and let the metal plate act as ground the rest of the way. Those humbuckers are OBNOXIOUSLY HOT AND LOUD. Instead of dining it if I played using high gain the volume knob stayed at 3. I swapped them out for high quality expensive humbucker sized p90s and wired a proper ground. Just be aware there is not hardly any room routed to run the stock wires so you need to plan what your going first or it won’t work. They wire the north and south of the humbuckers together and tape it and there’s a half inch route for wiring to your toggle switch then back down towards the pots where there’s a pinhole the wires go through to reach the pots. If you take the pickguard off it’s basically all wood.

Just a loose ground wire some where. Open it up, grab the soldering Iron and you should be golden

This is just making me miss the blacktop Strat I traded for my Jazzmaster LOL I loved that guitar. Thankfully mine didn't have the same noise issues, but thinking back on it now, it was still pretty noisy.

I’ve gigged this for 10 ish years swapped the pickups and the frets are all dented, but I still love the thing. Super sentimental to me, but the old pickups weren’t great.

The whole point of humbuckers is to eliminate electrical noise found in single coils. Something is wrong with this guitar.

I remember those...in my memory they were sold earlier than 2010, like around 2008-2009

I bought one recently with a noise issue, and it turns out the pickup switch wasn't grounded at all! Once the switch was grounded, all noise problems went away.

That’s awesome! I think that’s what the issue was with this guitar. Crazy that they wired it without grounding the switch thinking it would be totally normal & fine

Thats just a ground issue. No big deal.

the crazy thing I found later when examining this guitar was that there was no ground wire in the harness, underneath the pick guard. So if a person added a ground wire after the fact, that would solve the noise issue in a big way!

Not a shielding issue but a grounding issue. Which can be very dangerous.

Flatter neck radius is better for chords and rounder radius for shredding !!!!
