Your videos are seriously amazing! Music is such a key component in Epcot Center and World Showcase is no exception. You killed it with the Bruce Broughton video so when I saw this pop up in my subscriptions I was super excited.
I love this video! What an incredible deep dive into the music of Epcot! I’m about to go check out the rest of your videos, but before I go: 1) my favourite country pavilion is Mexico, 2) I saw Off Kilter play once when I was younger and coming from Canada it was really cool to hear bagpipes in a rock music context. Thanks for the awesome video!
I’m slowly remembering thoughts I had this morning. 1. Thank you so much for including that Whose Line clip. Whose Line clips are my whole personality and it felt great to be included in your work. 2. How dare you mention the new Pinocchio and my poor Monstro. I had finally buried that trauma. 3. Ok apparently I’m out of thoughts for now 4. Wait I remember one! I needed a content warning for the muppets because if I think about Jim Henson for more than 30 seconds I get emotional. Unfair, man. Excellent video as always. I’m always impressed by how well-researched your work is. Keep it up!
Wow, such an extensive look! Really like the thought and care you put into telling the stories of cultures and music. The only note I have is that, since José Carioca is Brazilian, the "J" in his name sounds more like a French J, like in "Je m'appelle." Haven't been to Epcot or WDW since... last millenium, I still remember the Illuminations music so well that seeing/hearing even a snippet of recordings immediately brings all the memories flooding back. My memories of the World Showcase, however, didn't retain the music. Keep up the great work!
Finally, a question for fellow commenters: what band/composer/musician would you like to hear at a country's pavilion? As part of the loop or performing live? For Norway, it's a very very long shot that Kaisers Orchestra would reunite, much less at Epcot, though bandleader Janove might find that amusing. An instrumental cover of "Hjerteknuser," though, could be a fitting addition to the loop. Not only was it their biggest crossover hit, but it gained additional cultural significance through a cover performance of the song at a memorial for the victims of the Utøya attacks. Back to their usual style- seeing them in the Norway pavilion, complete with gas masks and oil drums, with Janove singing and tap-dancing as the Devil in front of a choir for "Besgravelsespolka," would be such a dramatic contrast from usual programming that it would break brains. It would be epic. For Japan, I might faint on the spot if I heard anything from Shiina Ringo. She's got so many styles that something could fit somewhere there. Maybe she's already playing there in some form, but still.
Would like to see something like the roving performers in Vegas' Venetian (hope they survive the renovation) in the Italy pavilion. Really spreads life through the area. (spreading out my comments to try and boost the algorithm in your favor)
