I’ve lived in Norwich all my life and never heard of this before 😑 I’ve heard of the 100s of miles of networked tunnels that once even had colourful street names, especially near Earlham road etc.
A lady that works at the town hall in Norwich told me as well as the connecting tunnel between the town hall and the castle, there’s also one that connects the Guild Hall to the Cathedral on Earlham Road!
This is really good Chris, I spent my happy student days in Norwich (Norwich School of Art) in the late 70s, and regard Norwich and Norfolk as my spiritual home. Great stuff !
Thanks Chris, we've been hoping to take a tour down here for a while now but have yet to find the time so it was nice to come across your video with lots of information about it. Thanks and keep up the good work 👍
And the legend of a giant king who is at the bottom of a deep hole in the castle who is surrounded by his treasures and there is a prophecy about the one who will become king of the world once he finds him.
You see 2 people talking in a basement... However, if you listen to the backstory, it was once not a basement at all- what you see was once a yard at street level and open to the air, which was later built over.
I believe Gropekuntlane was St Andrews Hill, not Opie Street. But as they are very close to one another, it’s possible Gropekuntlane could have included both modern streets in Medieval and Early Modern times.
Very interesting, more of this sort of thing please 👍

What an interesting video, I'm so pleased you make the effort 🙂
Wow! My grandparents are trying to get time to take me here looks EXTREMELY interesting and as you said it dates back a while!
That's so cool, I'd love to visit the underground city

Brilliant video Chris! Really like your editing and audio production.
Very educational!
Also there’s a tunnel that links the cathedral to the castle and then to Guildhall.
liked this chris wondering if you was gonna do any thing else

I see 2 people talking in a basement! Hardly an underground street!

I'm interested in Norwich Castle.
Opie Street was called Gropekuntelane.

Opie Street was named after some member of the Opie family... the first comment was a Troll...

Well spotted. It was en-route.
Anyone know we’re the other entrances are!?
i have been on the tour and there is a door next to costsa coffe on London street that is another entrance, well worth a visit if you are in Norwich.
Chris have you searched about mud flood ?
Not yet... :-)
Did you get the Media studies A-level then Chris?
Actually, I never did A-levels. My equivalent was a BTEC in music technology! 🙂
You looked terribly uncomfortable, and kinda shy, during that interview.
Interviewing people isn't something I find easy! 🙈
She claims to be a historian of Norwich , yet she seems to have no idea what she is on about .
why does this look like it was made in the 1800s
Parts of it probably were- it's a bit of a mix of architectural styles and wasn't all constructed at the same time.
