It's ALWAYS worth doing these reviews, I honestly don't think Emery was too bothered about this cup, you could see it with the team choice and subs on the bench. There were moments when we looked good and moments when we looked bad. Ultimately it's bought us a little more breathing space in the fixtures list, I do hope he goes strong in the FA Cup though, we're still top of the Champions League and 4th in the Prem, I'll take that. The Spurs game this weekend is where we don't want to slip up, I'm going for a Villa 2 - 1 win. UTV!!!
Haha, thanks for the feedback! It is always worth doing these reviews! Agreed on Emery’s outlook on this competition. Ultimately, regular European football means we become a team that can regularly compete at the top. Think that’s the priority for now. UTV!
The most exasperating moment of the entire game was Jaden getting himself into a great position on the left of the area and then fannying around with it instead of at least trying to get a cross in
Thanks for the match review. I felt we struggled once Mcginn went off and then had no good options from the bench. The game however will be remembered for the return of Mings and Bouba who were excellent. UTV
Unai’s starting 11 and subs bench clearly stated how much he didn’t value the carabau cup!, it’s risky for sure as there will be a lot of upset Villans. Me personally… I don’t care, there are no mid season friendlies and a lot of injured and young players got minutes that they otherwise wouldn’t. This cup is Palaces only realistic chance of silverware, while for us it’s more of an impediment to our league and UCL campaign!. We’ll win cups when we have a complete team that is able to deal with both domestic and European football UTV
I'm in a similar boat to you, Mick. Think it's about consistently gaining European football at the moment. It'll help build us up as a more prestigious club who can attract the top players. And then we can really go for the trophies. We have the squad to win things now, but realistically I do think it'll take a bit more building for us to get there. Who knows, though? Maybe the FA Cup or Champions League draw will be kind! UTV!
In the list of competitions this ranks 4 out of 4.Villa have much higher aims i.e .top 5 and at least quarter finals of C L . Kamara. and Mings were very good Bailey still well off it and has one trick ,Philogene was poor but there is defo a player there.
Well that was bloody disappointing. I was expecting a bit of a odd topsy turvy match but disappointed in the blarness of it, agree with all you said so nothing to add... On the trophy question - wld love one this season of course (FA Cup please tooth fairy 🧚♀️) but I want us to excel in CL and League more as it helps to solidify our overall growth. This season we really need to concentrate on our form consistency, our game plays, improve the squad further. We're ahead of schedule, lets keep it that way UTV.
Agree with all that, mate 👍 So hard to balance up all these competitions, particularly against other English sides which have major financial advantages over Villa. Think the priority for now is to become a regular European force & build from there. UTV!
There are a lot of people saying we gave up this chance to progress. Look what happened to Palace they lost two of their best players in that game and our B team pushed them pretty well and statistically did out play them. It was the smart thing to do even tho it is rather upsetting. Palace drew arsenal away anyway so we would have to put out a strong team there too and thats more risk to the key players. Its harsh but putting out the B team was smart imo.
I did not see the match, but listening on Villa TV it seems we were unable to convert the chances we created. Need to become ruthless and clinical! But I decided that the team selected that we were not really interested. Good players non the less. Onwards and upwards - Tottenham, Club Brugge and Liverpool away! easy peasy lol UTV
Hey Frankie I've seen us win quite a lot to be honest in fact my first time at Wembley was 1971 Anyway I would rather us win the FA Cup than keep qualifying for Europe and not win anything in Europe 💜💙#CABA
But surely silverware is the next step for Villa from here? Assuming the league and Champions League titles are a step too far? I can understand Liverpool and Man City using this argument, but every other team in the land surely wants a day at Wembley in the sunshine?
Second string side , but gez both goals our own doing so poor we can't shake it off the habit continually to happen since January. As you say to casual and a few lapses
Full first team rested job done no money in micky mouse cup to many games means more injuries tiredness top 4 champions league are the main events game time for the great kamara mings thought you ned was good learning all the time just trust in the best manager in the world utgv
Emery doesn't care that we have gone out of the cup. His priority is the premier league and champions league. Good to see bouba and Tyrone back. We need to get rid of Diego Carlos he is gonna cost us results this season. Not good enough to play for villa.
I never heard a player saying they want to join a team because they wish to win the league cup - sorry this competition is meaningless compared to champions league qualification 😅😂
Aston Villa went out of the Carabao Cup in a 2-1 home loss to Crystal Palace.
Here is our instant reaction. #avfc #utv #astonvilla

League cup has lost its identity I'm afraid not important we lost less chance fixture congestion more important NO INJURIES!! Move on

Not a big fan this sacrificing games and lower cups and reserving players , I guess there is method in the madness for it. 😊
I think so. Just our sheer game volume means we really have to mix the team up. Shame to go out. Think we had the team to win here. UTV!
We played OK for 75 mins. Only went out coz, Carlos is a liability
And Bailey, Buendia and Philogene were anonymous.

mistakes n missed chances are creeping in our game, not good
Yeah, we’ve made too many mistakes for goals to start the season, even though our form is generally very good. Need to cut it out. UTV!
