    What I should do if something like this happens?
    this video is based on one of the scenarios that can happen in my area and I'm gonna show you my emergency plan to face the disaster. I think we all should come up with different emergency plans according to what could happen around where we live.
    This is the first Episode of a long SHTF Series.
    is there something would you do differently? River Crossing was the only option to keep the bug in process under a day.

    When crossing a river, you shouldn't swim straight across or against the current. You should aim slightly downstream. Your speed across the river will be faster and you will use less energy.

    I have a plan where to walk to get from work to home, I have found out some bridle paths/footpaths to shorten the distance and avoid a dangerous road but completely forgot that I need to cross a river which ever way I go. Yes there are a couple of bridges I can use, but what would happen if one, or both of them was out. Just never crossed my mind before, we just take things like that for granted. I’m also not a great swimmer. I’m going to get a dry bag to use as a buoyancy aid to go in my get home bag.

    Cool series brother. Way to get people to be aware of scenarios that can happen, along with the tips to counter them. Crossing that flowing stream or river may be hunky dory during the warmer seasons, but boy of boy does one need a fire during the cold months just to survive after that. Some people can't even come close to understanding how much work is needed just with the camera alone and editing, so I appreciate and thank you for covering this topic. Hope you and your family are well these days bro. Take care, ciao!

    If you know you will likely have to cross a river, I would suggest having a flotation vest and helmet in your kit bag
    River crossing typically kill a lot of special forces people, its one of the most dangerous activities you can do
    Being prepared for situations is kind of the entire point of having a bag with gear in it
    Another option is to have a folding saw and cordage to make a very basic raft, it only has to get you to the other side. Being up on top of fast moving water is way safer than being in it

    • @mysterioanonymous3206
      @mysterioanonymous3206 7 месяцев назад +4

      Yeap. I'd also facilitate a way to have (or being able to steal) a damn bicycle. They get you places far away real quick with not that much exertion.
      15km is a leisurely ride on a good gravel/Mt bike. You can go uphill, downhill, on dirt roads, on a foot path... Almost anywhere.
      And you can easily carry them over obstacles or bring them over a river on an inflatable float.
      They're a much underappreciated mode of transport...

    • @driver3899
      @driver3899 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@mysterioanonymous3206 Yeah agreed, and damn stealthy too. Light enough to take on a well made raft as well
      Actually you could get one of those fold up paratrooper ones so it goes in the back of your car, set up 2 panier bags on it, one each side of the back wheel. One panier holds your bug out bag, the other one could hold floatation bladders and a tarp to make a quick raft. Not many places you couldn't go then

      @@AlexWander Haha no problem! You have a cool channel, look forward to see the evolution of your gear and ideas
      If you are interested in messing around with floatation or a coracle or improvised raft or whatever, a good rule to remember is 1L of trapped air will float about 1kg of weight. You can buy 10L unused wine bladders that fold up small and weigh very little. You can also get some pretty crazy fold up kayaks and inflatable kayaks now days too. I am sure there are a bunch of options

      Idk about special forces, but Marines are trained to use our waterproofed equipment for floatation, similar to what he did here. It also rings true on other channels ive watched.... andrew for instance on ranger survival and one of alex's colleagues.

    Great attitude and advice.
    My furthest point when at work is 60 km from home. As an electric train driver I'd really be in trouble if I had no transport. I've downloaded offline maps and when I see 15 hours walking time across a hostile city as my only option I dread the idea. Getting water and not mugged are my main concerns. 2 days I think if all goes well.

    • @AlexWander
      @AlexWander  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much!
      Not sure in what city you live in but I can understand what trouble means in your case. I was wondering, as a train driver , did you ever think of using rail roads to reach safely the nearest point that leads to home? Just thinking out loud, In my humble opinion, if something major happened , train traffic should be shut ooff and rail roads would become the path of least restistance last but not least all the "Eyes" should be focused somewhere else , what do you think? Of course 60 km are a long way home and maybe for you a portable electric "vehicle" could be a plus for sure ! About water, if you have a Grayl geopress you can drink even the nastiest puddle you can find on the street , just prefilter the water quickly with a shemag or a t shirt and then press it into the grayl . The risk of Being mugged is a serious problem, as I've already said, I would find a less and unconventional beaten path even if it's against the law, you know we need to get back home to our family , this is our priority , 🙏

      You've made a very good point about walking the rail network. I'd get away with that and definitely be safer. I've been groomed to follow rules maybe why I've still got my job after 30 years.

    Amazingly high quality video! Thanks for taking us along as you actually test your SHTF plans. Not sure what all the other plans entail, but I was thinking you might want to invest in a couple of inflatable boats. Keep one with you and one at your parents. This way if, based on the situation, it would be safer to go back to where you stay you would have a safer way to get your parents across the river. Just a thought… you’ve probably already thought of this. Anyway… thanks for the video; it definitely got me thinking!

    The foldable paddle (remodeled) can also be used as a stick for support while walking. Remember that it will be easier for you to keep dogs and " "wild animals" " away. Running is fun, but it consumes a lot of calories.

    One thing you might want to consider or plan for is that a bridge is likely to collapse because of a flood. In this case the current will likely be way too strong to swim across.

    • @AlexWander
      @AlexWander  2 месяца назад +1

      I actually don't know what could happen, since the bridge would fell down into the river , it would might create a barrier for it letting water coming out from the sides of the bed, ehat do you think?

    • @UnknownUser-pf9rk
      @UnknownUser-pf9rk 2 месяца назад

      @@AlexWander Possible but I think water is such a mighty force - during a decent flood the current probably won't be slowed down by some debris from a bridge. If crossing this river is an important part of your bugout/getting home plan you might want to consider stashing an inflatable boat somewhere and have some way to "shoot" a rope across the river to help you not get washed away.

    I am just getting back into running with my pack on so I know I can do it when needed.
    We are a family of four and my two kids are autistic. If a bad scenario were to occur one thing I know for sure I'd I need to be in the best physical condition I can be as the will be relying on me. That's my current goal.

      @AlexWander what's funny is over here in the UK you're seen as somewhat crazy for trying to plan for things going to shit. Like nothing could possibly ever go wrong. But when Covid hit, everyone panicked and it went crazy round here. That gave me my first hint of what would happen in a SHTF scenario.

    Great stuff Alex. Really well thought out plans. If you need to do a river crossing without rope safety, it's a good idea to make a floatation pack. By wrapping your rucksack/bergen in a bivi bag will make better buoyancy.

    Just found this. Sooo glad he explained his clothing. I was thinking soaking wet in almost any condition is a death sentence. (80 temps and soaking wet in water that's 60's at least, now struggling tired, and have to continue. You MUST change clothes, including underwear.
    I'm fortunate, 4 miles, 7 minutes from work, solid hard top. Couldn't ask for better conditions.
