    I mounted a 100W panel on the added roof of my E-bike... The battery is so small you can charge about 40-50% in a sunny day, yet just that can last you about 20-25 miles... (But now I have to find the sun everywhere I park it though!)
    They can make vehicles lighter, fuel (electric) efficient. Solar charged work travel is never just a dream.

    Thank you for hosting this interview. I much prefer the conversational video than the marketing style I was able to find about GoSun. This gave genuine insight directly from the leader of their company.
    One question - Patrick mentioned there is an onboard battery which takes the power and accounts for some of the fluctuation in sunlight. In the illustrations I only see the NACs/Type 1 charger with a cable (is this included?). Is there an option to switch this adapter to a standard 120-volt outlet or even an Automobile auxiliary power outlet type plug in?

    • @RajGiandeep
      @RajGiandeep  Месяц назад +1

      The cable included is a NACS type 1 charger cable.
      Things aren't finalized yet on the battery capacity, ports, etc.
      I will do a follow up with this once this are set.

    fully integrated solar PV ought to be the norm going further. solar charger and integrated PV on buses and trucks (40 ft box) should be the norm. Just think that once the truck is moving, friction is the only force that need to be compensated to keep the vehicle moving at constant speed. which is tiny once the inertia is taken care by the main battery.

      I usually road trip to a friend's place in the midwest. It's a small town with not many charging options, so something like this is perfect to mount and use while in town to give me enough range to drive around and get to the supercharger out of town. Would it also be possible to design it in a way that the "sentry mode" cameras on the front would still work? Unfortunately where my friend lives isn't the safest area and there have been issues with car break-ins.

      Calculated the payoff for a similar system like this but DIY, and the realistic payoff for me was roughly 10 years, depending on sun, local electricity price, and a several other factors. There’s more than ROI, like no access to a charger or camping, but won’t make sense for the majority of the time unless you need it outside the cost. Most cases something off the car pointed at the sun would work significantly better.

    The issue is the aerodynamic impact. The roof rack and this product adds ~2.5-3 sq feet of frontal area and increases drag coefficient from 0.23 (model 3) to ~0.26-0.28. This will increase energy usage at speed ~20%-25% and will take a big chunk of the solar gains. If most driving is primarily low speed (in town) then the loses would be less but vandalism would also be a concern with this product. Aptera doesn't have this inefficiency since solar is fully integrated into an aerodynamic vehicle.

    • @RajGiandeep
      @RajGiandeep  4 месяца назад +3

      Aptera's solar charging is king in this regard 100%
      GoSun's solar EV charging would not be a great option for road trips unless you have the extra range to absorb the aero hit.
      Mainly just around town use to aero is less of a concern.

      So for $3,000, this would produce 5Kw a day. @ $0.20 per Kw that’s $1 worth of electricity. So just about 9 years to make your money back lol………………..

    • @JayGrant-hi5ms
      @JayGrant-hi5ms 4 месяца назад +2

      Your ‘math’ is flawed. The frontal area of the unit is approximately 1.67 sf. Their 10% estimate is reasonable and may be improved upon with an adjustment to the installation angle (using the m3 example) if tested and ‘optimized’. It may also be improved if the underside is perhaps detailed better than shown.

    • @ccibinel
      @ccibinel 4 месяца назад +3

      @@JayGrant-hi5ms Their solar unit is 1.67 sq feet BUT the roof rack and bars adds more area when compared to a vehicle with nothing. I am comparing the unit AND the roof rack system to a vehicle with nothing on its roof. It also adds a void between the vehicle and roof at a short distance which adds dirty air resulting in drag. This is the same reason aptera was soo concerned about the distance they could put between the wheel pods and body.

    • @JayGrant-hi5ms
      @JayGrant-hi5ms 4 месяца назад +1

      You misunderstand the issue with the wheel spat distance. Your frontal area numbers do not reflect say the use of the Tesla racks, nor the relevant test data you posted on discord. Your post here is essentially fabricated around your anti-solar bias.
