Yes, she's playing an openback and possibly with nylon strings for that thumpier old time sound. Most of us probably think of a bright, steel string resonator bluegrass banjo sound when thinking of the instrument.

Terrible mic'ing of the guitar and bass. Really good band. It's obvious who the matriarch is here too.
