So the family's not gonna be happy when OP finally adopted a kid, and it was a struggling family member no less? And I love how the mother blamed OP for breaking the family, when all OP has done was ignore the drama and raise Jamie all the while OP parents and extended family have tried painting OP as a villain, inevitably breaking the family apart.
Well, that's how scapegoats work. They are appointed by a family or communuty to shoulder all guilt and sins, specially when it's not theirs. She was always the wrong member of the family for whatever reason, nothing she ever made.or decided would be right.
They wanted to continue to pretend the kid didn't exist so they didn't have to think about being the people who left him in the system. OP made them look bad so they started rumors SHE was the bad one.
So, her family suggested she could adopt when trying to convince her she needed to be a mother. But, they preferred she adopt a random child rather than her nephew whose existence they were purposely ignoring. They then accused OP of stealing the child whose birth mother (although not necessarily intentionally) left him languishing in foster care. In addition, now that someone else is handling the responsibilities, etc, of childrearing, the birth mother has decided she's entitled to be Jamie's mom? Smh! I'm glad that OP's sister recognized she had to work on improving herself before attempting to have a relationship of any type with her bio-son. I wish all kinds of blessings and good fortune on/to OP and "her" son, Jamie.
I think they also have the mindset of adoption is something you do with where the biological parents failed, but they weren’t ready to admit that this happened in their own family. It would be easier to say “these kind of people” failed, than to say: “our daughter struggles” plus they don’t want to criticise themselves. They weren’t able to help their daughter, when she got to the wrong people, they didn’t help her with her child and they didn’t take the initiative to take the boy in. They claimed him as hopeless and not worth their time or effort, but OP refused to drop him like the rest. It is so baffling, how people want you to become a parent, in a way how they view parenthood, but don’t want to really focus on the child… it is so disgusting in my opinion…
I'm adopted and i can't express how much joy i get from hearing his progress and how much he's thriving cps is brutal and lots of abusive families take advantage of that thank you so much for giving him a loving home
Family: you're destroying the family! How? How are any of OP's actions destroying the family? If the family (I e., mommie dearest) brings the accusation, they need to present evidence.
Real or not, this is by far the best type of these stories that I’ve listened to on RUclips. Very well done. Warm felt, inspiring, and not dwelling too much on needless details or toxic drama. Could’ve been written a tad better, but it gave it the feeling of being natural and authentic.
"So you're still single?" Yep! And I'm LOVING IT! "Must be nice having all that free time. What do you even do with yourself?" Oh, I mind my own business, you should really try it! "You're wasting your best years! All women should experience motherhood!" I'll worry about MY years and YOU worry about yours, Mom. You don't have much left, given your age. Just becasue its a waste to you, doesn't mean its a waste to me. And a woman should experience motherhood, IF SHE WANTS TOO. "We would love more grandkids." And I would love for you all to stop bothering me about marriage and parenthood, looks like we're both not going to get what we want.
Both OP and Jamie are better off without the constant meddling of their family. A child being constantly exposed to such toxicity can cause irreparable damage to their mental health in the long run.
OP makes the rest of the family look bad since they neglected the child and left him in foster care. Op's family are very hypocritical for bashing her for not having any children, then bashing Op for adopting her nephew. Can't win either way. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Myself, I would cut out all the naysayers, family or not!
I would have never thought to say something like that. But if I had, my parents dissappointment would have crushed me after the paddling of a lifetime that would have set my ass on fire.
Typically the one person who cares the most about the family will be the one most accused of not caring about the family. This is because if you possess any positive traits such as loyalty, compassion, or fairness people figure out they can manipulate you by making you think you are failing at the traits that define your moral character. It is a common manipulation tactic that people need to be prepared for.
Her parents want her to have a child so she decided to adopt her nephew, who is their grandchild and now they say she's unfit those are horrible people
It didn’t count in their point of view. She would have to get married and physically have her own kids before she would be a mother in their eyes. Adopting a family member that everyone chose to forget about would never be enough for them. Which is awful to say the least. I’m glad OP and Jamie have each other
OP I would advise you that if you want to make sure he is well taken care of in the future and you're not allowed you need to get a lawyer and draw up your will I would advise you to get a lawyer and get a letter of involvement to disarmed and discredit your family if they try to take advantage of him that it was so and keep all the legal paper and documents that you can get on them so that they don't really care about him that way they can't cost any trouble
Foster Care doesn’t mean orphan, it means „ward of the state.“ Many children aren’t orphaned or abandoned by their family to be in foster care, they are removed for their own safety and the parents (family) may reclaim custody under specific circumstances. In a place where bullying is commonly used as a means of portraying false confidence, that difference would be something they will hold over another child… (At least, my dad wanted me, He‘s just in prison right now… Once mom‘s clean, she’s gonna come pick me up… Grandma would take me if she wasn’t in the nursing home… Etc etc)
@Gacha_NuggetYT Wow, that’s harsh hopefully you have a part time job and your saving up for an escape plan when you can legally get away from her. I’m sorry, you lost the parent lottery. You can get through this and come out better on the other side.
I can sympathize with you. I am unable to have kids of my own because of health issues, and also I cannot live on my own. I can’t even adopt though, because I cannot work, drive, or live on my own.
It does repeatedly when she points out their hypocrisy at the wedding and even the other times she mentions the exact same thing earlier in the story as well as the distant cousin who posted on social media and said the exact same thing
I'm sorry you had to face such hurtful judgment from your family. Adopting someone who needed love and support is such a beautiful and selfless decision. You’ve shown incredible strength and compassion-wishing you all the happiness in this new chapter
Op's mother and family is truly a monster for trying to rule against op in the court hearing. How can some ppl be this FACKING HEARTLESS to an FAMILY MEMBER?! Good that op still got Jamie in the end. And I hope op's sister truly finds the help she needs to deal with her issues

When the jabs began, OP’s answer should have been, “Being childfree means I can do what I want, when I want and not have my entire personality be ‘I’m nothing more than a mother’”. If they can’t respect your choice, then show them the same disrespect.
people should really just let others deal with their choices. if OP was gonna regret not having kids let it happen, it was her choice to make and you can say "i told you so" if it happens. not only were they pretensions they were also obtuse as they knowingly discarded a member of the family and didnt want anyone in the family to pick them back up almost as if they refused to have someone object to their decision. OP found the very family that they waxxed poetically about and felt everything a typical parent would feel and MORE and it even looks like everyone that matters understood that
I can never understand parents and siblings who are so judgemental, so negative , when a person who has good intentions wants to adopt a child, why get in the way.
The family wants to ruin a very positive adoption , the boy is starting to thrive. And his unqualified mother is making the Boys life very difficult. OP legally adopted the boy . The school , individual teachers, the art community all helped this child.
why doesn't OP organize tutoring classes for Jamie or teach him herself. Math is not as difficult as is shown in this story. Otherwise, the story is good.
Not everyone has the time to do those things and is best for someone like a teacher to be a tutor, if anything OP is going an amazing job by letting him focus on what he loves and not pushing him to focus on the things he struggles at.
Why did you even go to these ambush meetings ? Talk about setting yourself up for family ridicule! Where is our self esteem? , your pride ? No one in real life would deal with all these toxic Karen’s !
I don't think much of her mother considering that she abandoned her own grandchild you know what they're not worth your time, her revenge is much nicer.
Better safe than sorry, though. And CPS would take that as good intent, able to be relaxed when proven to not be needed. Besides, it's not like 10 year olds can't do harebrained things at times.
People were asking Jamie about his process? He draws robots, not serene parks by rivers. His process is “Oh man, wouldn’t it be cool if it had a gun?” followed by “Needs more guns. Boba Fett had a tiny missile launcher in his knee. And an absurdly oversized sword, too. Like Sanosuke, in Ruroni Kenshin.” then “So is Sanosuke-bot 9000 going to ride a robotic tiger?” looks at TV, and some nerd is talking about the Fantastic 4 casting decisions… “Definitely a surfboard that can fly in outer space.’

Op didn’t steal anyone child. Op saved a child that the family got rid of……
Adult June: Exactly! Shame on OP's family for embarrassing her for no reason what so ever. OP didn't steal the child she's protecting him.
They threw the kid out with his mom and didn't want him back in the family.
Once OP adopted the child. The child was her’s and no one else has rights to him. Just funny the family didn’t understand that being a simple law.
Family perfectly understood that. They just didn’t care. They shielded golden child against consequences and ditching grandson in the process.
