You're a brave man getting that close to geese, as a north american I like to joke that the rage and hatred from Canadian Geese makes up for the courtesy and politeness of the rest of the country. Great video as always.
This is very nice Roger. What I really like about you is the way you just go out and photograph whatever you have access to. No grand vistas, no mountains in dramatic light, no filtered sunrise or sunsets or 10 stop ND lake or water. Just the oridanry stuff that everyone has access to. Well done mate.
Cheers Lensman. I had a vision in mind at first of a swan print looking direct into the camera and burning all the areas out except the swans face. Hence the contrast and grain idea. The rest is in the video. I didn't quite get what I envisioned but almost. I didn't fancy getting on my knees either! All that poop. I guess I will have to visit many times and shoot many rolls before I get what was in my mind. Thanks as always.
That 3000 camera reminded me to mention the very bizarre yet cool and cheap EOS EF-M. This one is special as it’s the only manual focus only (with split prism finder) eos camera canon ever made.
Outstanding work with the XX there. I've not tried myself, but might have a go now. HP5 is a bit fiddly when pushing a couple of stops. My go-to developer for this is HC-110. DDX would be even better, but it's kind of overkill for HP5 - better saved for the likes of Delta 3200 and Kodak P3200. Incidentally, XX is back in the news because of the new Christopher Nolan film. Some scenes were apparently shot on 65mm(!) XX film stock that was specially made by Kodak at the request of Nolan. One of the first and only times this has ever been done. Should look incredible.
XX back on the movie scene! Thats awesome. I watched a 2007 B&W film called "Control". It's about Ian Curtis, the lead singer of a band called Joy Devision. Beautifully shot but the info said it was on colour kodak film, must have converted it to BW for release. I thought it would have been XX. Worth a watch.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Yes, I've seen that one. Great film. I'm a big fan of JD, and of the director, Anton Corbijn. Spent most of my teens reading the music press, so his photography made a big impression on me, escpecially his work in lith printing. I keep meaning to try it myself, but a lot of the paper has been discontinued.
Roger you put out the greatest videos because you teach and you keep me laughing my ass off. Oh by the way if you are having a problem using the Nikon F100 you can send it to me, ha ha
I've developed a boatload of HP5 with Microrphen pushed from ISO 800 all the way to 3200. And D23? No matter home made or bought, no matter which film, box speed only...
Yeah the XX shots were without pushing and also with a much better lens. However, interesting to know how the two would compare both shot at 200 with same lens and camera. Cheers Janne! Tripod still going strong :)
You're asking for technical Difficulty 'PUSHING' film when taking SWANS when it is already difficult to retain tones in the white feathers. in my 'PRESS SNAPPER DAYS' I would 'Push' when doing Soccer on very overcast days when the Subject/Brightness Range was LOW -- never do it in SUNSHINE or on High Contrast Subjects or when you want to retain 'White Tones' Just my 2 pence worth ! FOOTNOTE : When ILFORD XP1 400 first came out as a 'Wonder Film' which could be rated to 1600 ASA with 'same Processing Time' I took some on a Soccer Match , rated it 1600ASA and the results were RUBBISH -- dreadfully THIN negs - HORRENDOUS GRAIN POOR DEFINITION and I got into trouble with the Sports Writer over the Print Quality as i had to print onto Grade 5 to get anything Don't believe what the Manufacturers say !

I was surprised they didn't attack me especially with the Signets there. They hissed at me a bit!
And Canada geese are common in the UK. I understand they can break your leg if they get angry.

The casual disregard those birds had for your presence was truly inspirational. 🤣
They didn't give a damn I was there
It's a lovely print thanks, Roger!
One of your best Roger. So enjoyable. Proper photography at its best, Thank you!
Wow, thanks
My usual Sunday morning hit boss....... can't beat it 😊... like other have wrote, the way you just go out and do normal....a joy to watch 👍
Cheers Malc

Thanks for the info
The Double X reminds me of some expired ortho film I shot. Love the contrast!
I can make Double X as flat as pancake with HC110 1+63. It is actually quite a versatile emulsion, though it is at its best with a little contrast.
im alot more afraid of those Canadian cobra chickens than any cow!
Roger.. lovely bit of footage ..thank you for taking time to compare the films...(swan v gator ...and I ain't going to prefocus at 2 ft..)
Cheers Nick
Glorious, I really want to get back in the darkroom but it’s too hot at the moment for me!
I have to wait till after sunset lately Holly!
Good man for especially feeding the one with the gammy leg. Another great video, cheers fella.
Cracking video again! Loved the audio on this one too! 😀
Glad you enjoyed it

As a Canadian I must say you're a brave man getting that close to Canadian Geese. They have a reputation here lol
Świetnie jak zwykle ..a ogldam kazdy odcinek ..pozdrawiam z Polski Jarek :-)
Thanks for watching.
I like idea with feeding the birds and putting a camera on the ground. Maybe a fisheye with 180° angle is even better?
Definitely.
Last time I did shooting like this one I used 58mm lens and shot every photo with 1.4 aperture and I got amazing results.
Wow, okay. Without looking through the viewfinder?
I had to look through the viewfinder and focus manually. Voigtlander 58mm 1.4 and Nikon D750. Could have used my Nikon FE2 instead.
Eye autofocus is for pussies :)
The cupboard cam 😂
Roger you put out the greatest videos because you teach and you keep me laughing my ass off. Oh by the way if you are having a problem using the Nikon F100 you can send it to me, ha ha
Cheers Rick! I don't have a F100.
Ducks are really good posers, they even insist one gets the best side of their beaks!
You're a brave man reaching into the geese to get the camera. I think that I would have tied a string to it
I was a bit weary
The bird knocked over the camera and it became better to see 😅
Lovely XX shots! 13:04 is probably my favorite
No he didn't film her looking into the cabinet.

I have never understood why those 90s canon cameras are so cheap.
Those double X shots steal the show hands down. HP5 has nothing on them. Great choice.
I mean yeah but I don’t think you would have said “hands down” if he shot them both in this camera and spent time on them too
Yeah the XX shots were without pushing and also with a much better lens. However, interesting to know how the two would compare both shot at 200 with same lens and camera. Cheers Janne! Tripod still going strong :)
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss The tripod certainly went to the right hands 👍
That was quite an interesting experiment Roger
But the real question is : Does your wife still speak to you ? 😜
LOL! Yes.
Do it again but put food on the lens
That's actually what I should have done!

Your steering wheel is on the wrong side. 😎
Should have flipped the camera to avoid confusion lol
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Two countries separated by a common language -- and steering wheels. Love your videos!
Birds are always equally fun or frustrating to photograph, I tried pretty much the same as you earlier today. keep wasting film😉
The canon shoot was frustrating as the swans were swimming around so much dipping their heads under water and that camera is slow at focusing.
