  • We norwegians are weird, and have a different way of saying "yes", sometimes. This is "jo". ANd here is a video on how to use it.
    Hey all Norwegian learners!
    The language I'm teaching is not Bokmål nor Nynorsk. It's an east dialect and I don't think you will have much problem with bokmål after this. :) And everyone will understand this.
    I am Norwegian, from Norway. Born and raised. I live in Oslo, with my husband and son.

    You also forgot to mention, since I am norwegian myself. You forgot to mention that "jo" makes a sentence stronger, to strenghten the sentence, for an example, "it is good", could be "det er bra", but if you want to strengthen it you can say "det er jo bra!" :) Hilsen Nicco, 16 år :)

    You are right about "getting it into our brains." I have learned something about "jo" before but it helps me to get the same sort of info from multiple sources. I did not know that you would use it to contradict a statement that you don't agree with. I thought it was only to answer questions ending in "ikke sant"... because that's the example that Pimsleur uses.

    I am travelling to norway (from holland) for 2 weeks every year for the past 9 years. But shit it is hard to learn norwegain 😂. Only in the past year i am starting to understand and read it. But still after all those years i can only read it (and understand most of it), and if i hear it on the telly or someone is slow talking to me, i can understand it sort off. But writing a complete sentence or speaking. Hell no 😂😂. But you are helping a great deal. Specially since i am planning to move to norway within the next 2/3 years.

    can you also explain the use of "jo" outside answers? because i always hear norwegian people using it outisde questions to make the sentence "stronger". Like "du er jo vakker" or something like this, in english would be maybe "for real", i dont know. It is weird for me but i know a norwegian guy who uses "jo" literally in every sentence

    • @nirtheart
      @nirtheart 8 лет назад

      +Gh0st Channel If you were to say: du er jo vakker, it would be as an answer to a negative sentence like: I am not beautiful am I? Then you would answer; jo du er jo vakker da

    • @Gh0stChannel
      @Gh0stChannel 8 лет назад

      but i hear it even without questions being asked, just to underline something. Is it possible?

    • @nirtheart
      @nirtheart 8 лет назад

      ***** Well, it can de discussed if it's an "invisible" negative I guess, like if you're trying to persuade someone

    • @NorthernL1fe
      @NorthernL1fe 8 лет назад

      +Gh0st Channel "Jo, nå skal jeg forklare deg..." is an other way of using jo without an negative question. it means something like, "well, now i will explain this for you... "

    • @saftobulle
      @saftobulle 6 лет назад

      That ”jo” is actually not the same word. In swedish we use. ”jo” in the same way as in the video and ”ju” for your example.

    Hi, maybe this question is totally unrelated or maybe even silly, but here goes: Would learning German first help me learn Norwegian easier?

    • @marcusrossel4638
      @marcusrossel4638 8 лет назад

      As a native German and English speaker, I can say that knowing German makes it way simpler. For example there is an equivalent to "Jo" in German "Doch". But learning Norwegian should be easier than German, as the grammar is much simpler.

    Takk! Sometimes I will see the word "jo" in the middle of a sentence for no reason I can see... is there another short word or preposition or pronoun or something that is spelled the same but means something different?
    PS: If I want to say "Thank you for this (video)" shorthand would it be: Takk for det! or Takk for dette! or.. Takk for disse!...or ...for denne...?
