Fantastic! Thanks for sharing this - I got the first Hassles album on vinyl up here in Vancouver (for $25) a few months back - been looking for it for YEARS!
I remember Billy once said that his first video was for Attilla--which I knew was wrong, cuz I'd seen a clip of this on "Before They Were Stars." (Billy's memory has been proven to be imperfect, tho perhaps he meant his first concept vid.) In any case, thanks so much for posting this lost gem. I think it's very Billy-esque of him to reveal that he's lip-synching near the end. Way cool.
Bassist Howie Blauvelt quit the Hassles for a while, and was replaced briefly by someone else. I don't know who his replacement was, but you can see his picture on various promotional items, and a few 45 sleeves.
I remember them practicing in garages around the area... one time in East Birchwood.. in Jericho... eons ago... I've lived in CA and NC for years since then.. time has passed... lol
I'm thinking this was shot in hopes of being shown in Europe, because they were on the same label as Traffic. Howard Stern said his dad Ben recorded them, but I don't know that much about it.

Growing up on L.I. I think the HASSELS were just great,they were an underrated band back in the day.

@RICKOBEAR
Billy Joel could've maybe passed for a squashed and genetically scrambled version of Paul McCartney in Bizarro World.
No.. I meant West Birchwood... I lived off of St. Lawrence Place.. many, many moons ago..
1:00- 1:05 sounds very Moody Blues-ish (Just A Singer In A Rock & Roll Band), released in' 72 so maybe they copped it from this.
It sounds a lot like the Young Rascals, and I mean YOUNG Rascals - their early stuff before the name change.
you know what? thats, thats good...right? cause i think it is. yeh, like really good...
Killer
yeah great but now i wish see something of Billy like Godzilla!!!!
