It is not allowed to drink in public areas, not because of Islam or anything like that, but because of the law they introduced a few years ago. They are also trying to ban cigarettes in bars and cafes now.
Here comes a long one again, hehe 😀 On another rainy day here (the sun is supposed to shine next week...) and a visit to the Breakfast Club in the cafe, this is a second attempt to leave a few comments here. Firstly, Sergey was very polite and gentlemanly in helping the lady leave the aircraft with her luggage. A small but very remarkable gesture of courtesy that you don't often find these days. It deserves to be mentioned. Sarajevo airport reminds me in its design and layout of our own tiny international airport here in the area and about 20 kilometres from my house. If it wasn't so rainy today, I could take a trip there and watch the passengers and planes come and go from the open observation deck (there aren't many a day) and enjoy the view while having a drink or an ice cream, I think either would be appropriate. Or visit the small aviation museum where you can see some old aeroplanes that were made here in my country when there was still an industry for it. Today it's all just Airbus industry ... I remember decades ago coming back from a trip to New York City and the US East Coast and landing on a domestic flight from the hub in Amsterdam, and there were no buses taking passengers to and from the terminal building, and people just walked across. That's a long-gone memory, but now there are some of these terminal bridges, like everywhere else. Sergey, Mercedes Benz taxis are not considered VIP cars here. In fact, they are more the standard taxi cars here (at least they used to be, I haven't used a taxi for years ...). It was also funny that the taxi driver asked you if you spoke my native language, I already told you that you resemble a lot of people here ... 95 petrol is cheap at €1.33 per litre in Bosnia compared to €1.80 per litre here (¾ of the price here is tax ...) SEAT is a traditional Spanish car manufacturer producing FIAT and Lancia cars under licence (just like LADA), which was taken over by Volkswagen in 1986 and just like Skoda offers Volkswagen cars in the Czech Republic/Slovakia in 1991 in a slightly different design than the originals at lower prices and with the same Volkswagen technology. I like most of them better than the originals. SEAT cars are now manufactured in factories in Spain, the Czech Republic and Portugal. The Audi A1 and Volkswagen Polo models are also produced there. According to Volkswagen, however, the new and future SEAT models will be sold under the brand name Cupra. The Ottoman sultans always had very tall and strong young men as bodyguards, called Janissaries, who were recruited from the local population in the Balkans, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania and Ukraine. In the days of the Ottoman Empire, it was common practice to kidnap young male children and feed them into the Ottoman army, which was always hungry for soldiers. If these men were not Muslims, they were turned into Muslims by force. Well, Sergey, we can see a similarity in your home country today when it comes to Ukrainian children in general. However, I can't imagine Putin recruiting tall foreign men to serve for him in his personal guard, because in that case he would have to wear even higher platform shoes himself so as not to look too short compared to them, and also risk falling over when walking around at public events (well, he's not afraid to take risks to embarrass himself and his country in every possible way, but still ....). As you can see in the video, you had the opportunity to see the historic and restored Sarajevo City Hall, a marvel of Austro-Hungarian architecture from the late 19th century, at least from the outside, when you attended the open-air performance of the music orchestra on the square in front of this marvellous building, which was wantonly destroyed by the Serbs in the Balkan war of the 1990s. The little girl who was having so much fun was so cute! Red clay roofs on buildings are common in most southern European countries with Roman history and near the Mediterranean (including Portugal). I like them a lot myself as we have mainly black roof tiles here. In the southern part of my country, the Mediterranean culture (with red roof tiles) is more present than in the north, where I live. Also, you can drink water from the tap everywhere (if it's not labelled as industrial water) and it's very clean. But many people drink "mineral water" with or without flavour, which they buy in bottles or cans. I have already given you recommendations on accommodation prices. All in all a very nice trip and Sarajevo is a very lovely city.
@@Wildcat220 I don't know about that! Maybe staying in Geordieland did the trick. Been there 4 times in 10 years or so for about 3 weeks altogether. Could be Newcastle Brown Ale and Snakebites late at night also helped! 😅
Good video. I still can't believe that the first hotel room had a window opening on a rock wall. What on earth is that? How do they get away with a window with a view of a rock wall? Asides from that the view is lovely throughout the route and town. It looks very welcoming from above when you see by plane the countryside and the red roofs. Beautiful video, thank you for posting.

It's ilegal to drink in parks, on benches and places like that. Just in order to reduce chances of "public disorder". The reason why he said that it's a problem for you is because if you were a local, police would just tell you to leave. Since you are a foreigner they would likely use the chance to write you a fine. Whille leaving he said the amount of the fine you would receive. Nothing to do with Islam. It's illegal in the USA as well
And i Have a feeling that you came to Bosnia with a lot of of prejudice about Muslims. Trust me, half of the Bosnian Muslims can drink more than you can.

BABA in Bosnian is a pejorative, meaning old woman, hag. If you called your grandmother that she would slap you. Baka is the acceptable term for grandmother, or very commonly just "Majka", though ofc that just means mother, but if someone is referring to their "majka" in conversation they are most certainly talking about their grandmother. The kids were most likely saying BABO, which is a regional Bosnian term for father.
Yeah, after I googled I realized he was saying Babo. Baba in Russian is for grandma when the kid can’t pronounce the whole Babushka word. And also BabA has a similar if not the same meaning in Russian like you explained if you say it to the woman heh.
Actually, the guy tried to direction you to drink in Pub because in Sarajevo it is not so much popular to drink alcohol on the street (Sarajevo is mostly inhabited by Bosniaks, which are Muslim ethnic group. And yeah, to unsolve the mystery, people from Sarajevo don't like the Russians at all because in the war, Russian volunteers fought on the Serb side and destroyed Sarajevo, that's the reason why you maybe felt offended. Hope you enjoy in Sarajevo!

But his response to you was not because you are Russian, If I asked him the same while drinking in a bench he would act the same. But I don't think the police will treat you differently. Police would just walk past you as you look like a normal guy. If Police ID'd you and found out you are a Russian while drinking in a park, they would just assume you are a spy and walk away and find better things to do and try to avoid you in the future as it could lead to a lot of paperwork especially knowing the local CIA agents are following you anyway.

The guy who phoned home. His "babO" answered - and that's an expression that some Muslims use for "father". There is word "baba" too, but that's not such a nice word as it literally means "old hag". There is a similar word for grandmother, mainly used by christians, and it's much nicer - "baka" (muslims usually say "nana" or even "majka" - literally meaning mother - we never call our moms that but we just say "mama" ).
Thank you for video. I hope you had good time in Bosnia. Bosnia have mixed culture and people with different religions, most of people are Muslims, then there are Orthodox Christians, Catholics and Jewish. Bosnia have all Religious institutions (Mosques, Churches, Sinagogs). In Islam girls should be covered, but we can not force it on someone as it should be done by heart to please God, we can educate them and encourage to follow religion, but only God can change people's harts. That is why you can see women who are covered and uncovered, even in same family there are women who choosed to cover and some of them did not choose it or stil did not choose it. I hope this explanation helped you. 😊
They didn’t ask any actually. But while leaving Bosnia it took longer time for me to check something for the border officer compare to other foreigners, but also no questions were asked.

Thanks for sharing your travels in Bosnia with us. My father’s family were Serbs from Bosnia. I wish I could see Bosnia someday.

@@CrazyRussianSergey Looking forward to that!
@@CrazyRussianSergey there is no such thing called "Serb part of Bosnia", although Serbian nationalists will beg to differ. Bosnia-Herzegovina is a country consisting of two entities and one district and it belongs to all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Republika of Srpska is one of the entities and the one that you refer to.
@@CrazyRussianSergey we in Bosnia use more cash because it is a habit we have left from communism, although today in all small and large stores you can pay by card, although the banks charge a fee for using the card, the people use cash more, although the dictatorship of rich bankers has been imposed on Bosnia to slowly abolish cash because of the loans that the banks will take in the future, and what you mentioned about Serbian Bosnia, it does not exist, the Serbs killed over 100,000 non-Serbs from one part of the country and expelled the rest, and it is now mostly inhabited by Serbs, but it is not Serbian Bosnia as we know the local the government in a democracy is made by those who are settled there, and since the Serbs killed and expelled everyone else, it is logical that now only they are settled there, but there are many people who are returning to their homes, although this has not yet been arranged because the politicians are corrupt and criminal, but it will be better when that's what she wanted if she wanted, and let me say something about those cigars, they are our cigars, it's just that our criminal or stupid politicians sold the factory to these global giants who closed it down, and now our cigars are produced in Poland, which is shameful and I I used to smoke Drina and loved it, but since it is produced in Poland I don't smoke it anymore and I wish you a nice time with our beautiful Bosnian cheese and that you come to us again

Here comes a long one again, hehe 😀
On another rainy day here (the sun is supposed to shine next week...) and a visit to the Breakfast Club in the cafe, this is a second attempt to leave a few comments here.
95 petrol is cheap at €1.33 per litre in Bosnia compared to €1.80 per litre here (¾ of the price here is tax ...)
SEAT is a traditional Spanish car manufacturer producing FIAT and Lancia cars under licence (just like LADA), which was taken over by Volkswagen in 1986 and just like Skoda offers Volkswagen cars in the Czech Republic/Slovakia in 1991 in a slightly different design than the originals at lower prices and with the same Volkswagen technology.

From the Sarajevo airport, it is a 10-minute walk to the trolleybus station. You don't need to take a taxi.
There was also a bus right from the airport but I would have to wait 1.5 hours. And just I’m having a heavy luggage. I will try to reduce my luggage because for travelling it’s pain in the a$$
It's ilegal to drink in parks, on benches and places like that.
It's illegal in the USA as well
Drinking on benches is something only homeless do in Bosnia.

The boy was probably talking to his father/Babo

He asked where you are from in the belief that the police might treat you differently because you are Russian.
