when I played Mass Effect I had a debilitating illness. Life altering and led to a lot of depression and missed opportunities. I was really enjoying the games as an escape from reality but it wasnt until Thane shows up that ME2 became a favorite. Thane's dialogue and conversations about illness have made me cry for years now just thinking about them. And having a confident, charismatic character talk about similar issues that I was having really made me feel better about my life as a whole. I owe a lot to this game and will treasure it forever.
Thane is so cool. I didn’t spend much time with him in 2 but he survived into 3 and his content really moved me. When I replay I’ll have to do more with him.
Coincidentally I am in the middle of my Mass Effect 3 playthrough right now. Completely agree that the Paragon vs. Renegade choices weren't creating drastically different outcomes, but what really makes this series special for me is the persistent characters and the fact that they can die and then not be avaialable somewhere you would have interacted with them later. That's been a big spot of joy for me in ME 3, reconnecting with old friends, and I would be bummed if I hadn't saved them all and gotten to experience that.
If it wasn't for Halo I'd be a full blown Mass Effect fanboy, close second for favorite franchises. So many moments in this trilogy that stick with you forever.
I just finished playing 2 and 3 recently. Cried at the end of mass effect 3. It truly was a journey 😢. The downside is that I now hate more games for being worse.
Dude i swear i started ME1 (first time ever) like 3 weeks ago, the legendary edition sat for a while in my steam library because i thought it needed a massive amount of hours to finish. Then i started listening to the DualComm podcast and i was like "i should check it out on howlongtobeat": turns out it's not as long as i thought it would be lol. AND NOW THIS, i want to rush ME1 to the end just to experience this big jump in graphical fidelity, let alone all the other improvements! Thank you, i really appreciate these kind of recomandations!
Just started replaying mass effect 1 and plan to go through the whole series. Mass Effect 2 is definitely my favorite though can’t wait to play it again!
I played the series for the first time early this year. 2 was really fun, but my favorite has to be 1. I love the atmosphere and I love imagining how impressive it was for 2007.
You asked what makes a game timeless. The answer to that is not following trends. Not doing or following what's currently popular. Because trends come and go, but uniqueness never goes away.
Played them all at once on the Legendary Edition and can’t really say which one I like best. First one had great characters, story and atmosphere; second one had the most challenging combat, a cool heist theme, and an exciting finish; and the third one, being most recent, was technically best with amazing combat (power combos all day long) and almost Hollywood production like set pieces. That said, if you’re going to play one, I’d recommend playing them all. In a game with this much story and lore, playing only one part is like reading only the middle chapters of a novel.
I played Mass Effect 3 on my Wii U. I got my Wii U because it was supposed to have that 3rd party support the Wii didn't have. I loved ME3, so later when I got a used PS3 I picked up Mass Effect 2 for like $5. I loved it even more. Now I need to play 1 before replaying 2 and then 3. Might not be the usual way to play the series but I ended up loving it regardless.
I feel like I'm going to be a lucky guy. I have only played Mass Effect 3, and I never really got to play 1 or 2, and I just bought the remastered version on PC for nothing 1, 2 and 3 for 5€ I can't wait to olay this game next year
I’m about halfway thru ME2 w the legendary edition and I don’t want to say it’s a slog but it’s certainly an investment. Much more RPG than I was expecting. Like the emphasis is on the choices you can make vs combat and story imo. Combat is nothing special and kind of feels boring at times. Decent sci fi story, but not what I was expecting or really looking for when I picked it up.
Ive never played through the trilogy, just 1 and 2. And just give up in 3 like 2 nissions in. I picked ut up again, committed to doing a full 123 play through, did 1, blasted through 2 (probably my 10th play through of 2), and gave up on 3 and 2 missions through again. Horde mode was great but lobbies are dead and the pace, gameplay, and story telling are just too perfect in 2.
Mass Effect 2 is a great game but its still my least favorite game of the franchise (I've played everything except the mobile games and the board game.) The combat was better then the first game but I didn't like how planetary vehicle exploration was limited to a few DLC worlds especially since I like the Hammerhead a lo more then the Mako. I didn't like how the number of skills you had access to was reduced. And I really disliked the reduced weapon selection. I understand why they reduced the number of guns but I think they took those reductions too far especially in the case of Heavy Pistols and Submachine Guns. Those two types are useable by every class in the case of Heavy Pistols and five of the six for Submachine Guns but there are only two of each type in the base game with a third added by DLCs later. I played as an Engineer for my first run the same as I did in Mass Effect 1 and 3 (If a game has an Engineer class that will pretty much always what I use for my first run unless it has a separate Computer Hacker class in which case I might try that first). That meant until the gun training selection fairly late in the game the only guns I could use were Heavy Pistols and Submachine Guns. And I hate burst-fire only Submachine Guns and Assault Rifles but before the Kasumi DLC was released you couldn't get a full-auto Submachine Gun until the second set of recruitment missions. I think the base game should have had three Heavy Pistols and three Submachine Guns rather then two of each. Add a new full-auto Submachine Gun to one of the first wave recruitment missions, and a new Heavy Pistol to Horizon, one of the second wave recruitment missions, or an item that can be found or purchased on Ilum.
I tried to play the first one got bored. Maybe I'll give it another go don't know. I don't like games that feel intimidatingly long to invest time in. Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay/ Dark Athena though amazing.
I recently found out it's not THAT long, i'm playing ME1 like 30/60 min at a time on the steam deck. sometimes docked to the TV, other times by hand if gf wants to watch something. the combat is awful lol but the story is really surprising me in a good way

Mass Effect 2 changed my life in video games. after nearly 15 years, it is still my favorite video game of all time.

I played Mass Effect two for the first time last weekend and holy shit I've been missing out for years.

I finished my third playthrough of Mass Effect 2 this year. Still loved every minute of it.

Loving the channel my guy, often ver thought provoking! 💯💯

I still haven’t played this game yet. Planning on the entire legendary edition at some point in 2025
The mass effect games, might be the next series I start 😅
Are these games and similar ones best played with a controller or mouse and keyboard? Keep the content coming. I love it!
Sentinel was the best, but when I grew some balls, holy crap Vanguard was nutz! Kicking the dude out the window is classic

My favorite game ❤
Never touched M E series, only watched Andromeda walkthrough on YT
i highly recommend playing the legendary edition some of the most fun you can have and the atmosphere is second to none
But I can't ! :(
(I haven't played it a 1st time ! :D )

They're not really that long you can 100% all 3 games combined in around 60-70 hours

One of the most overrated games I've ever played.
It's definitely hyped up far too much but I still find it enjoyable. Me1 and me3 are better
