    *Lets help out here:*
    1. DC has 4 quadrants emanating from the Capitol, NE/NW separated by N.Capitol St, SE/SW by S.Capitol St, NE/SE by E. Capitol St, there is no W.Capitol...2. Numbered streets go north and south,, letters go east and west,, for the most part...3. Longest street is Pennsylvania Ave then Mass Ave...4. "Taxation with no Representation" its a real thing...5. Marion Barry, only 3-term mayor in DC... 6. Dc was built on a riverbank, not a swamp, as many believe...

    • @tumadre50
      @tumadre50 4 месяца назад

      Also the reason "no taxation without representation" is a real thing is because DC residents don't have a voting member of congress. They can vote for POTUS but they have 1 representative in the House and that representative can't vote on any bills so effectively they don't have representation like the rest of the country does in congress.

It was, however, all the rage when the monument was erected so there might be one of some people who were taken to be George and his mother by the ignorant. DC’s metro area usually includes Baltimore too as it’s only about a 35 min drive between beltways. It’s surprisingly heavily populated
    DC itself may have only 720,000 or so peeps, but that’s more than 3 other states have. Yet they are taxed without representation in Congress.

    DC metro area may have 5 million people. DC proper has well under 1million.

    Bro, DC residents did not lose their Congressional representation with the passage of the 23rd amendment. DC residents have NEVER had congressional representation. The 23A gave them the ability to vote for President and electoral votes, but that’s it. DC has a Congressional Delegate, but the Delegate can only vote in committee and can’t vote on House legislation that goes to a House vote. DC residents lack any representation in the Senate.

      DC is never presented from the point of view of it's residents. When I joined the Navy I ran into people who were shocked people lived in the city. They thought it was only federal government buildings. I was like umm nope there is a whole thriving culture of people born and raised there. Bunch of bammas thinking that lol

    Yep, G Washington was elected in 1789. Ummm. The country started in 1776. Maybe John Hancock was president at the signing of the declaration and John Hanson was the first elected president. I wonder why the textbooks don’t talk about that. Maybe something to do with the articles of confederation?

      Danny Taddei You are an example of the saying that a little learning is a dangerous thing. You know just enough to have it all a jumble in your mind. Read up on those years. You don't start a country from colonies the first second you declare independence. They were doing something brand new and it took time and many stages. The Articles of Confederation was a stage. The Constitution was a stage. Hancock was the presiding officer over the Continental Congress that waged war against Britain. Hanson was president of something but not the United States of America as recognized under the Constitution of the United States of America. I'm sorry you were such a poor scholar you slept through that part of civics class but there were a lot of us who didn't and knew it was taught in school. Go read a book!

    • @rickhodges4808
      @rickhodges4808 2 года назад +1

      Correct. Technically, Hanson was the first president - though not really, because his office was president of Congress, not of the whole country. Only the title was the same, the powers were very different. Same with Hancock, though he (and some others) were president of Congress before there was a formal, independent United States of America.

      @@653j521 I’m sorry people like you don’t get it at all.
      Since my family was directly involved with all the things that gave you this country, I’ll stick with our version of real history and leave people like you to remain lost in your own world. You don’t affect my life at all even though you think you matter.
      The seriously sad thing is you are rude and cannot conceive of the simple thought I put forward which is the lack of teaching of the articles of confederation. Those are essential to understand to understand the constitution. Why you feel the need to be stupid on purpose and then try to assert dominance when none was required is beyond me but frankly, your shortcomings show brightly
