    Great recap as usual but I still don't understand why he still does his weird voices once in a while, as they are neither funny nor entertaining. I'm pretty sure more than a few viewers have talked about it. Since nothing has changed, at this point, only blind stubbornness can explain why he keeps doing them.

      there's been a laughable number of articles that have stated Magnus won't pass 2800, 2850, 2880 in the past. He has suprised us time and time again.
      His "drop off" of 18 rating points since his prime could easily be explained by his current work ethics. there's also the possibility that his laziness is just a facade he uses to mask the fact that he's no longer rising in rating points.

      @@woooooo0w Of course he cares, but what he means is he doesn't feel the pressure to win. If he gets lots of draws it might be disappointing, but at the end of the day its content and Drawkamura is born. Perhaps the best way of putting it is that he doesn't have anything to prove; he's not like the defending champion fighting to retain the title, he's not world champ Magnus who has pressure to win all the time just to keep that title unquestioned, and its not like his life revolves around prep for these tournaments unlike many other top players.

    • @woooooo0w
      @woooooo0w Год назад +2

    • @rowanmales3430
      @rowanmales3430 Год назад +9

      @@woooooo0w I mean, he did try and play for wins. Every game it was Hikaru trying to continue playing to wring something out of a drawn position, its not like he was the one playing for a draw.
      The sad but understandable fact of these sorts of tournaments is that some people have a good chance of winning the tournament and some really don't. If you get paired up with lots of people who are more preoccupied with not losing to someone objectively quite a bit better than them then it is incredibly difficult to do much. And since pairings are related to relative tournament position Hikaru's significant and unusual quantity of early draws dropped him into these players.
      There are two ways to play against this if you still want the win; take a little risk and attempt to use your better skills to exploit a small advantage or take a big risk but make the game one side will win or lose.
      Taking a big risk means entering into a big disadvantage and these are still GMs at the end of the day. Risking an outright loss rather than choosing between almost certainly winning or drawing is very risky and not what he decided to do. But I wouldn't call that playing for a draw myself.

    Is it just me, or have the duration and frequency of adverts increased markedly? I find them intrusive as the timing of them (approximately 40 seconds every three minutes?!) interferes with the flow of games.
