  • Manfromleng digs deep into Hank Samson, the Survivor investigator who will appear in The Feast of Hemlock Vale Investigator expansion. I had planned to review the Survivor cards that were spoiling along with Hank last week, but this video was running long, so they'll get their own video. Look for it soon. Elusive could possibly be a Hunter that moves away from investigators rather than towards them, so you'd have to act fast before it runs away. This is the same designers who brought us the Patrol keyword, so maybe more interesting forms of enemy movement are on the way.

Me too! I really enjoyed playing around with health as a resource in Mark Harrigan, and Hank gives you the option of using health or sanity as a resource, each with its own challenges.

I'm wondering if Elusive will just be reverse Hunter - the enemy moves 1 province away from the nearest investigator each turn.
Would be nice and simple, and could perhaps show up on as a special mechanic for the campaign.

I'm unsure whether they can do Edge of the Earth style investigators again unless the entire box uses the same deckbuilding.
If Hank can't take level 1-5 Survivor cards then the majority of survivor cards in the box are unusable unless you buy separate products, which feels kind of strange.
Admittedly, we still don't know what the other investigators' deckbuilding options are, so it's possible their deckbuilding can, in some way take advantage of higher level Survivor cards or traits that will be found on those cards.
But I do agree Hank will likely have some kind of Guardian access.

That's a good point, although I don't think the Level 1+ cards would necessarily be useless if Hank couldn't use them.. Level 1+ cards with a the Tool, Science or Parley traits would work in Wilson, Kate and Alessandra. They could also use the high level Survivor cards to flesh out the Bless/Curse mechanic, which the Mystic would like. While it would be nice if the high level Survivor cards worked with the investigators the box, that didn't happen for Amina, who got shafted by her upgrades. But that had more to do with poor design than anything else.

@@TheWhispererinDarkness That would be VERY interesting if each level 1+ card was actually intended for the other 4 investigators. I'm pulling for this theory!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I always appreciate your insights. Appropriately enough, my most favorite multiplayer role is guardian/survivor tank/damage so I am excited to get Hank to the table. I definitely agree that guardian and survivor kind of eat each others' lunches on damage and mitigation now. I also have another survivor guardian mashup: Calvin since so many spirit cards are guardian cards.

Thank you very much for your comment. I'd forgotten about Calvin, which makes the Guardian/Survivor column even more crowded. FFG is running out of original Arkham Files characters though, so Hank would likely be the last. If the game continues for a few more sets, the designers will be able to create new characters and explore other class combinations.

What make me sad is that Wilson Richards, my overall favourite Arkhan Horror universe investigator, is a Guardian. I had hoped for him to be the survivor and Hank to be survivor.

I see Wilson as a survivor and not as a guardian though his quest in AH 2nd Ed do soar of point him to survivor. I see him more as the resourceful handyman than the one man army like Mark. @@joshuawestlund
